The "Simple English" Wikipedia always baffled me. Why make a Wikipedia for tards when regular Wikipedia is already made for tards?

It's more designed for people who aren't fluent in English and can't find articles in their native language, but some of the Simple English articles on dark subjects like infanticide and the holocaust are kind of funny because they read like they were written by young schoolchildren.

I guess it might have had some utility in the days before web browsers could instantly translate any web page into your preferred language via Google Translate.

Using Wikipedia as a source is a stupid idea for many reasons. - the information on it unreliable, biased, poorly sourced, or just plain wrong.

How will the information coming out of my mouth be any different?

There are also completely pointless Wikipedia versions for many German dialects.
Allemanic, Bavarian, and Low German have over 10k articles each.
(Everyone in Germany learns to read and write only in Standard German, even if you speak the dialect heavily you wouldn't want to use it for written text.)

I like the story of the Ripuarian Wikipedia edit war.

There's also the even more pointless Sanskrit Wikipedia (another dead language).

Oh, it gets better.

Over 3,000 articles in Old English, for Beowulf fans.

Pennysylvania Dutch Wikipedia, a language spoken almost exclusively by the Amish and certain groups of Mennonites who aren't allowed to use a computer. Wikisperg Ryulong has edited the wiki before.

Over 600 articles in Old Church Slavonic, the first Slavic language ever written down.

https://got.wikipedia.org/wiki/𐌰𐌽𐌰𐍃𐍄𐍉𐌳𐌴𐌹𐌽𐌹𐌻𐌰𐌿𐍆𐍃

Over 500 articles in Gothic, a language with no notable literary works (unlike Latin, Sanskrit, or even Old English) other than a half-missing translation of the Bible.

A brief argument ensues over misgendering a deranged killer
  • On what planet are secondary sources more important than primary sources? It's coming right out of her own mouth. Misgendering a trans person because they are an insane murderer is like calling black people in prison the n word and pretending it's OK because they don't deserve respect. I'm going to revert your edit because it's transphobic and wrong. 82.34.1.182 (talk) 00:29, 28 June 2018 (UTC)

Gotta love the mind gymnastics going on in some of the description boxes of that page. "Kiibo identifies as agender because he said he hadn't given it much thought when asked about whether he considered himself male or female"... the guy exclusively refers to himself as male throughout the entirety of NDRV3 (as do the other characters), it's safe to assume that he considers himself male.

I played this game for hundreds of hours, it's completely untrue.

Animal Crossing is a game for children and everything is ridiculously innocent. There's a valentine's day event in the game where the villagers - anthropomorphic animals - send you "love" letters. The text makes it clear they're only your friends, no room for other interpretation. You need to be a adult and totally pervert to see anything else on this situation.

You know something they could point out? The fact some characters in the game are trans. The gender of at least two main characters swaps in the japanese and western versions. But that's probably transphobic to those gender freaks.

I like the Scottish Wikipedia myself. From the featured article (sorry, 'featurt airticle') right now:
A pownie is a smaw horse (Equus ferus caballus). Dependin on context, a pownie mey be a horse that is unner an approximate or exact hicht at the withers or a smaw horse wi a speceefic conformation an temperament. Thare are miny different breeds. Compared tae ither horse, ponies eften exhibit thicker manes, tails an oweraw coat, as weel as proportionally shorter legs, wider baurels, hivier bane, thicker necks, an shorter heids wi braider foreheids. The word pownie derives frae the auld French poulenet, meanin foal, a young, immatur horse, but this is nae the modren meanin; unlik a horse foal, a pownie remeens smaw whan fully grown. Houiver, on occasion, fowk who are unfameeliar wi horse mey confuise an adult pownie wi a foal.

If you ever have any doubts about bias on wikipedia look no further than this user: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Carolmooredc
"I am a long-time (1972 & 1979-2007) anti-nuclear-peace-libertarian-decentralist-green-feminist-drug legalization volunteer activist."

What the fuck does that even mean
