Anyone see the irony in Disney making a movie calling out monopolistic attitudes amongst companies, just after buying Fox?

Hell, people always go on about the crows being racist, but ignore the scene where the only human characters that are pitching the tent are all black men that sing about how they're illiterate and and have to do hard work 24/7. Yet the same song also applies to the circus animals that also have to help out (including the elephants) so inadvertently or otherwise it highlights how shitty life was for animals and black people back then.I don't know if it was intentional or not, but the original movie seemed to make that case that circuses were shitty. Animals getting abused, going berserk, drunken clowns, you name it.
Dumbo does seem to be an odd choice to remake in this super woke age. In addition to the aforementioned crows, there is also the matter of the circus itself, with its forced animal performers. I guess general audiences only care about the circus if it features Hugh Jackman singing shitty songs.

If I had been thinking I'd have looked for that scene to put in my post in the first place. Luckily several people have it uploaded so it was easy to find.Whoa, really? It's admittedly been a long time since I last saw the movie, but I remember that scene being a dark and stormy night, so everyone was in silhouette and the music was loud to make it an intense scene. I thought just about every human character except the ring leader (eventually) was never seen fully.

Live-action 'Dumbo' struggles to soar at box office
Disney's "Dumbo" isn't exactly taking flight at the North American box office the way its other live-action remakes of animated classics have.www.cp24.com

So as you can see, despite the upbeat music, the lyrics (and matching animation) are pretty bleak. For all the shit the crows get, at least their part is genuinely happy and positive in depiction. But nobody talks about this scene ever. I mean, it's not worth getting angry at a scene from a movie almost 80 years old, but that doesn't mean it not worth talking about. Life was shitty for a lot of people back when Dumbo was made, and acknowledging it in a family friendly movie was probably a big deal at the time. It's good to be able to look back and realize how far we've come, even through a movie like Dumbo.
Still, nice to think the efforts of the "9 Old Men" have not been overtaken.Disney apparently spent $170 million to make this and they couldn't even figure out a way to make the elephant fly without looking awkward and graceless.
A lot of people like to bring up how the lead crow is named Jim Crow, but fail to observe that the name is not said in the movie. And I don't think it's insignificant that the crows are among the few characters in the film that assist Dumbo.I'm in a huge argument with some guy on YouTube about those damn crows.
If you have to explain to someone why it's racist, it probably isn't.
If someone wanted to make a racist cartoon in 1941, they would flat out DO IT and hardly anyone would care:
And that's why this film is stupid for even going there. This is PETA levels of crappy writing. I've seen plenty of movies go this route and it annoys me.Wouldn’t releasing these animals that have spent years in captivity back into the wild be a horrendous idea because they’d mostly likely have no clue how to fend off/avoid predators?
I'm sure most would put that in the back of their heads like it doesn't matter.A lot of people like to bring up how the lead crow is named Jim Crow, but fail to observe that the name is not said in the movie. I was going to say where's Helena Bonham Carter, but apparently she was too busy ruining the Dark Crystal reboot to do this.
Yeah if there was a post crredit scene it would/should be all the animal being killed by other animals and being eaten with a final shot on their bonesWouldn’t releasing these animals that have spent years in captivity back into the wild be a horrendous idea because they’d mostly likely have no clue how to fend off/avoid predators?
It's sad to see a company move away from the very principles it's founder had wanted it to be.I saw the "pink elephants" scene on youtube and god was it insincere. I'm getting real tired of these phony remakes pulling a wink-wink nudge-nudge at the audience because they're lazily referencing a much better version from the past. It reeks of desperation. WE REFERENCED THE THING YOU KNOW ABOUT SO PLEASE CLAP.
These remakes are turning me into such a cynic. Disney used to inspire me so much. Now I can't even look at them anymore.
