Culture ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ To Remove Half-Species From Player’s Handbook, Claims The Entire Idea Is “Inherently Racist” - Race mixing is now verboten.

In their latest step forward on their long march to lost profits, Wizards of the Coast has revealed that they will be removing the concept of ‘Half-‘ species from the Dungeons & Dragons Player’s Handbook on the grounds that they are “not comfortable” including an “inherently racist” concept in the game.

This forthcoming update was first announced publicly at the recent D&D Creator Summit, an event wherein Wizards of the Coast gathered a number of notable personalities ranging from game developers to content creators and provided them with a sneak peek at Dungeons & Dragons’ upcoming releases.

Following a rocky start to the Summit marred with various technical difficulty issues, the publisher eventually hosted a demo of their upcoming D&D Virtual Tabletop, after which D&D lead rules designer Jeremy Crawford, senior story designer Chris Perkins, and studio art director Josh Herman appeared for a Q&A session with the attendees.

Eventually, the post-demo Q&A turned to the topic of WotC’s ongoing efforts to sanitize D&D, beginning with a question about how exactly the publisher makes use of their sensitivity readers.

“We don’t send everything to the same people all the time,” Crawford explained of their content review process (per a summary of the event posted to the EN World forum by user brimmels and a recap provided by content creator Daniel Kwan). “Different reviewers have different areas of expertise and experience. Everything gets sent to at least 2 people, sometimes more. The old inclusion review process had holes in it because they would only send out what they thought would be a problem. Now EVERYTHING is sent out so we aren’t guessing what might be a problem.”

“Our team are game designers and storytellers, we’re not experts in culture and inclusion,” he added. “So we’re focused on what damage should this creature do. That’s why everything goes through inclusion review now so everything in our game brings out delight. Even reprints are going through inclusion review. That’s why some older books are changing, too.”

Further elaborating on WotC’s process, the designer detailed, “We get a full report. We then address the issues identified. We have a conversation. Then it goes back to the reviewers so they can see what we did and comment as to whether it addressed the issue. We also now send the art, even the sketches, through the review process. Jeremy thinks of it as ‘inclusion collaboration’ because it’s a conversation going on.”

To this end, Crawford then confirmed that due to the game now having four elf variants for players to choose from when creating a character – standard Elves, high Elves, Wolf Elves, and the Drow – the Player’s Handbook would soon be revised to do away with ‘half-‘ species.

“Frankly, we are not comfortable, and haven’t been for years with any of the options that start with ‘half’,” he explained of this decision. “The half construction is inherently racist so we simply aren’t going to include it in the new Player’s Handbook.”

Unsurprisingly, Crawford did not expand on his accusation, and thus his reasoning behind this claim remains unknown.

However, despite their removal from the Player’s Handbook, Crawford assured players that “If someone wants to play those character options, they’ll still be in D&D Beyond [and] they’ll still be in the 2014 Player’s Handbook”

It should be noted that though players may still be allowed to create Half- characters, thanks to their removal from the core materials, such characters can not be used in an officially-sanctioned event.)

As of writing, it is unclear when the Player’s Handbook will officially be revised, nor when it will hit shelves.

Holy crap this new rule removes so many interesting story lines, characters, playable races, and lore. Dragons can mate with pretty much everything(lol furries) since they're magical, and because of this you have dragon discipline classes, and even some dragon blooded playable races like dwarves with a little red dragon blood and humans with a little silver blood. I haven't given WOTC money in a long time and I will go out of my way not to start anytime soon.

But they are LITERALLY different species, not races! JFC
This is why we can't have anything nice, fun or imaginative. Have fun continuing your journey to irrelevance!

Half-elfs literally had their own societies and culture! All that erased!

“Our team are game designers and storytellers, we’re not experts in culture and inclusion,” he added. “So we’re focused on what damage should this creature do. That’s why everything goes through inclusion review now so everything in our game brings out delight. Even reprints are going through inclusion review. Holy crap.. This is like the antithesis to art and literature! My god! Gross and unconscionable!

These kinds of changes based on complaints that NOBODY is making or likely to make, smack of totally uninformed outsiders working as sensitivity scolds.. in the best of cases. It feels a lot like a bunch of young SJ informed normies, who don't understand or care about any of it.. But feel "concerned" at the thought of people RPing around issues of species since it's too close to race for their comfort. Or something. Clearly from a place with absolutely NO understanding of the lore or concepts! Actual team members and writers included!

Some part of me can't help but sometimes wonder if this kind of totally unhinged take, is more about pissing off the fans, who remain mostly made up of the wrong types of people.

My favorite quote on this comes from a very confused and quite annoyed reddit:

by this definition hitler was woke as fuck

Re-read that one sentence in the middle a few times until it clicks. “So everything in our game brings out delight”.

Imagine if we applied this absolutely asinine criteria to all fiction. Everything must bring out delight.

The Jigsaw killer didn't actually kill his victims. He put them through therapy and helped them get over their issues while faking their deaths so they got to start over with a new life.

The Bride’s nurse wasn’t letting random men rape her comatose body. He was diligently caring for her every day.

Robocop didn’t have an identity crisis after he was brutally maimed and shot dead by a pack of criminal thugs and his still-cooling corpse turned into a cyborg against his will. He had stomach cancer and being made into a cyborg saved his life, and he adjusted well to his new condition.

Remember, we must never cause the audience distress. That goes against the publisher's ESG metrics. Only... thumbs through glossary of bland corporatese... only delight is allowable. Only delight is permissible.

This isn't even a comical exaggeration. This is just how SJWs read fiction; by nitpicking about every goddamn little thing that made them upset, as if the work wasn't supposed to arouse any negative feelings whatsoever. For example, here's some SJW retard whining about Peter Watts' Blindsight:

Content Notice: severe ableism, graphic violence among children, the possible death of a child, and stigmatizing description of brain surgery.

Audiences don't have some special right to never be offended or upset by the things that they read. That's ridiculous. It's tantamount to a demand that stories be morally perfect and free of any cynicism of any sort. If that was the case, you'd never be able to depict anything immoral about humanity. You'd never be able to depict anything that reveals some flaw, some foible, some imperfection. Some twenty or thirty years ago, it was Christian conservatives who wanted everything bowdlerized into oblivion to suit their consciences. Now, it's the Left doing the same exact thing with no self-awareness or sense of irony whatsoever.

Think about how soft this shit really is. You can't write a thousand-page bio for your half-elf Mary Sue anymore because it's racist. What kind of infantilizing milquetoast shit is that? Did humanity just wake up one morning and collectively decide to be fucking retarded?

I'll tell you what we need to do. We need to put the lead back in the gasoline. We need people to inhale those leaded gasoline fumes and get back to shooting films and writing novels and tabletop sourcebooks with more eighties-style sexploitation and casual cruelty. As an author, it should be your full-time job to make your audience periodically put down your book, go to the bathroom, and weep big, globby bitch tears face-down in the sink. If you can't manage that, then you've failed as a writer. Period.

If y'all ever want to know what kind of people work at certain companies, go on LinkedIn and follow the company's profile. The attention seekers will routinely tag the company and you can see what they're saying. Blizzard has a dangerhair problem.

Edit: Case in point

Most of us long time players, saw the writing on the wall and where it would lead, and we left. And we're not sorry.

I'm not allowed on Twitter anymore... and oh my fucking God! That first one, that Bailey lady! I would not put EloHell near my name, anywhere. Blizz may as well say they want assisted suicide picking that thing up.

So are they going to tell Matt Mercer that he is racist and demand that he make half the cast in Vox Machina who are half-elves be full blood elves for Season 3? Are they going to fuck over players in the Neverwinter MMO who play half-orcs and half-elves by getting rid of them in game? Are they going to demand that Larian Studios change the race of the half-elf cleric of Shar in Balder's Gate 3? Are they going to rewrite the lore of all of D&D past works like Dragonlance that had half-elf characters? Goddamn did WotC shoot themselves in the foot with this. When you become so woke that you become racist.

I don't know what brand of paint WOTC has been huffing the last couple years, but between this half-race retcon, the imaginary racism handwringing over spelljamemr, the OGL bullshit and the gradual degradation in quality I'm pretty much cashed out on D&D. I know there's nothing stopping me from playing the game how I want, There's far better systems out there than 5e. I might pirate 6E or D&DOne or whatever they're calling it just to see what they're doing but it's clear Wizards doesn't give a shit about anything other than appealing to the twitter crazies.

Correction, they are not only trying to appeal to Twitter crazies but also BlackRock and its CEO Larry Fink, aka the King of the Jews and the Anti-Christ. Remember, WotC has the highest ESG score out of any company in the world. They don't care if they lose costumers or profits. So long as they please BlackRock and Fink they believe they still get money and that BlackRock will always bail them out of a jam. However, with the incoming banking collapse WotC may no longer be able to rely on BlackRock to bail them out anymore and be their safety net.

And this shit is why I only play 3.5 with my own circle of friends and my brothers. It’s also why anytime someone tells me they play 5e I immediately write them off as a soy guzzling faggot who can and will ruin anything they’re brought into.

Gatekeeping is a good thing, and man I miss the days when tabletop were just games for nerds and hadn’t gone mainstreamed.

This combined with a load of other recent cases of "race mixing bad!!!" shit REALLY make me fucking wonder. Like disney deciding to make new seasons of the proud family that turned it into a preachy slopfest that had a whole episode dedicated to how race mixing was bad. They're not even fucking trying to hide the blatant pro-segregation racism they're up for here. It's one thing for people to feel to be with "their own" or whatever as prejudiced as that shit is but once you start forcing that fucking mindset on others like this it really shows the true colors of a fucking absolute shitbag pro-state enforced segregation racist that does not deserve a place of power.
