That's absolutely it. Even if Duolicious' male to female ratio is slightly better than most other dating sites, i'm pretty sure it's still like 90/10. From my experience though the vast majority of the girls on Duolicious are in their 20s, and much more responsive than on the big alternatives. Also way less bots.
Fact of the matter though is simply that the app has a lot less users than most big dating apps. You're better off not setting any distance, and just taking a look at people, get to know them, and if there's anyone who you really like, just meet up eventually and try to make it work with the goal of eventually moving in together.
Atleast in Europe you can reasonably meet up semi regularly for an alright price. I once took a train to Switzerland from halfway across Germany for 2x20 bucks. Flight from Frankfurt to London and back for example can cost as little as 140€. Split the price, make it a monthly thing, and you're sitting at a monthly cost of around 70€ to meet up, which is pretty affordable.
Of course it's gonna be worse than having someone close to you, but for that special person who can match your retardation level, it may just be worth it.
