I'm still fucking floored that Metroid Dread got announced. I remember being hyped about Metroid Dread in my teens.

God, I still remember the computer scan on the pirate homeworld. Prime's atmosphere and lore makes me hard, that ost droning ominously in the background. I will forever be in awe of what Retro's art direction was able to do with the shitty Wii hardware, the game still looks aesthetically vibrant.

Well they’re definitely loud as fuck for how poorly the games sell.

Metroid was always a niche franchise. The tone and lore is what set it apart from the rest of Nintendo's IPs, and was referenced well beyond its actual influence over the years to demonstrate Nintendo wasn't afraid of ''mature'' games. The 2D style also makes it quite a bit cheaper to produce than other series with similar clout.

What I want to know is the sales for Metroid Dread on release, in 3 months, and then a year from now. All these other games listed have excuses for poor sales (players not liking Prime 3's controls, Federation Force being a poorly-devised spin-off, Samus Returns releasing when many were retiring their 3DS's, Other M being a bit shit) but Dread is a mainline title on a console with 85+ million owners and in a franchise with 4 reps in Smash Brothers Ultimate. There's no excuse for disappointing sales. Given all this momentum and the fact its the only game Nintendo have lined up for Autumn it'd be a deadly blow for the franchise as a whole if it fails to meet internal sales targets.
