This was a really weak e3. Possibly the weakest ever.
You should travel back to around 2010 with fucking Kinnect and Wonderbook and Nintendo's offerings being Wii ____, Skyward Sword and Other M (which, hindsight 20/20 neither looked bad at the time.)

I'm amazed we didn't see the Harry Potter game and Gotham Knights Batman game. Both of them may be in trouble with how long they've been in development and the utter lack of footage.
WB Interactive blew their stuff out a few weeks ago. Harry Potter got its big reveal there and so did the other Batman game (the two Batman games probably being spaced a year apart to avoid cannibalization.) AT&T is spinning WB off into its own company and dividing the game studios up so some PR stuff is probably on hold for that in order to let the new team have a say in the reveals.

- 2.5D is "always inferior to pixel art" (somehow)
The only semi-valid point I could come up with other than personal athstetic preference for that is pixel art makes knowing exact hit boxes a little easier visually. For a Metroidvania game however, needing to know that shit to the pixel is unnecessary unless you're an auti-- speedrunner.

I didn't knew were changing the combat, it looked the same as Samus Returns to me in the trailer.

Overall i expect a serviceable Metroid game, but nothing special, like Samus Returns.
They said there was a new combat system as an aside in the reveal trailer, about when they mentioned that the auto-aim mode was back.

I'd rather take that E3 instead, at least those were gaming related even though most mentioned weren't good. What we got was a panel with nothing but diversity and inclusion bullshit, Randy Pitchford talking about the movie for roughly have the presentation (on set and showing us nothing new), Capcom with nothing new and ending with Esports, and Bandai Namco talking about one game only.

All awful but none of those companies even gave presentations a decade ago, there was a time where we only got five or six in total.

I think that, these past few years, second tier companies realized that so many big players had dropped out that there was a hole they could fill (basically, to ape the strategy that Bethesda used a few years ago) and push games that the gaming press would otherwise not care about. And thus, this year, you get Gearbox with nothing, Capcom with nothing, Bandai with one game (their other stuff was given to Nintendo,) Take 2 (who usually skip) doing their gross Zoom call, multiple bullshit indie showcases, and a lot of the largest companies not showing their games. I would still argue that Nintendo, Microsoft, Ubisoft and Square together gave us output equal to the Recession era conferences. To say nothing of the fact that we know for a fact that those other companies also have games coming out.

I'll hammer this home time and time again because it will never stop being true, the second half of the 7th generation was a terrible time for games. It was full of Wiimote waggle and Kinnect non-games, Japanese companies going under or focusing on handhelds or focusing on Japan only phone games or focusing on cute girls doing cute things, Microsoft dismantling its gaming empire, pre-smart phone phone games and Facebook gaming, no PC ports, PC ports with no mouse and keyboard optimization, PC ports with no graphics options or enhancements, Nintendo failing to support a handheld system and home console at the same time, Microsoft refusing to let developers put free patches or DLC on XBL, entire genres being declared dead and, worst of all, the 8th generation being delayed and cheaped out on because of financial issues. The only bright spots were Fromsoft breaking out with Dark Souls and Sony building what would eventually be their murderer's row of western studios.

If you think where we are now is bad, you have no idea how lucky you have it.

What other countries did that?
Copy the stylings of the Soviet Union, which was red and yellow in a near identical flag to China's?
(North) Vietnam, East Germany (with black), Angola, Cambodia (changed after fall of Communism), Angola (yellow star added onto previously existing red field with black eagle and then removed after fall of communism.) As well as loads of communist parties in non-communist states. (example: Turkey[/url)

I did not mean to say Angola twice, that second one was supposed to be Albania. Fuck my lack of editting priviledges.

My point being the "stylings" of the Soviet Union, which changed all these flags, was based upon a Roman model of complete totalitarian homogenous culture/ideology taking over the world. Like former Roman provinces, many former Soviet states keep some of that heraldry. China's dream has not died, they might as well be the "Eastern Empire" that followed the fall of western "Rome".

Why are you talking about Rome at all? China does not give a fuck about Rome, they adopted red with gold because they were communists and that is what communists did. They have since become state capitalists. They wish to have the power and influence of the Middle Kingdom at the center of the world that they learned about in elementary school. Your alt-history fan fiction is noted, but irrelevant and ridiculous.

Better watch out for those would-be Romans conquerors in Croatia, Ireland and Denmark. For what its worth though, communist theorists like the Lenin era communists didn't care about Rome. They cared about "societal evolution" and the "inevitability of communism" and the "global proletariat" rather than spreading Russian culture.

What would you say the issues with Returns were? Because they already said they were changing the counter-based combat mechanics and the threeeee deeeee is also out since its not on 3DS. Shooting for Super Metroid status is a mighty high bar, but I didn't see a reason to think the game would be only mediocre. I am hoping its at least Fusion level.
Honestly the game was just really, really easy. It was an otherwise perfectly fine game. Probably has a lot to do with you having free-aim in a game partly constrained by being a remake of a gameboy title.

I think I read that WB games isn't getting broken up. They changed their minds.

Discovery is going to be the parent company.

This E3 was genuinely sad. I've had fun laughing at the last couple of E3s but at least they had worthwhile segments and actual game announcements. Microsoft and Nintendo were decent, but both barely had any actual big game announcements outside of Dread and I guess Forza. The rest of the segments were embarrassing. E3 has reached the "shoot it in the head and leave it in a ditch" stage.

2009, 2010 and I think 2011 also stank, those were the years everyone started chasing the Wii's audience and while it was pre-Woke gaming has never been as good as it was before the "casualization" era began, it's been well over a decade at this point that I would describe gaming as being in an overall great place.

I can't remember if it was 2009 or 2010 but remember when Microsoft and Peter Molyneux showed up with a completely fake game, "Milo", a game about talking to a little British boy, that was never heard from ever again and was so obviously not a real game they ever planned on actually releasing, it was just filler because I think they felt they were a game short that year.

I also think of E3 2009 and Tony Hawk Ride, with Tony Hawk himself having to hawk the stupid plastic skateboard controller and you could just tell the guy knew he was full of shit and felt embarrassed.

I've read this every year for the past ten years now.
E3 2014, 2015 and 2017 (I don't really remember 2016's) were cool, some cool trailers and the show floors themselves were cool from what I saw of photos and videos, but in 2014's case a lot of those cool trailers were for games that either disappointed or never came out at all, like Crackdown 3, the Phantom Dust reboot and Dead Island 2.

The game has to be in development hell.
Something seems like it's gone wrong with Platinum sadly considering Bayo 3's vaporware status and Babylon's Fall, I wonder what the deal is.

Moylneux totally wanted that to be a real game, sunk a ton of time and money into it and then quit Lionshead over it when Microsoft pulled the plug. It was going to be, basically, a minigame collection tied to a generic boy and his dog story. There was a massive deep dive into it in one of the longer-form gaming mags and a few builds have leaked out. Even if they had wanted to make it a full game they would have had to cut or rework loads of stuff because they downgraded the original Kinnect from a pre-release version which could read finger movements to the retail build which couldn't.

Actually, mega-boomer Tony Hawk pushed the board hardcore and to this day things it was a good idea. He is not a gamer and still doesn't get why people didn't want to pretend to skateboard on a skateboard.

I hope you are right, low-key they a pretty competent for a western dev and have been able to build something out of nothing a few times over the last decade. I suspect you are wrong though, I think AT&T will keep the shitty mobile studios, WB/Discovery will keep any studio working on an IP game and probably Netherrelm/MK and then any other studio (Traveler's Tales) will be sold off for whatever capital AT&T can raise out of it.

Naw, Nintendo's was really dope, actually:

Microsoft and the others are just salty that Nintendo actually showed games instead of shoving Woke bullshit down our throats like they did, to some degree or another. And as we all know, in their eyes, anyone that deviates from the religion of Woke must be punished - one way or another. I guess this is thier way of doing that for E3.

still, i've seen talks about people ignoring the fans, it's not that. you should throw a bone to them every now and then, that's what teasers are for.
