E3 (but not really) 2022

I would do anything to go back to the golden age of post-Wii hype where we had hilariously embarrassing conferences of people trying and failing to show off motion controls. A big part of why I even would watch E3 was to see what bizarre episodes would end up happening. The last few years have been really boring for both games and anything entertaining. It's sad that what was once a big annual event went out with a whimper.

🎶 All around me are familiar faces....🎶

who gives a fuck about Rayman in this day and age? as for E3, why even bother if none of the big three will be there? guess there will be no games to look forward to after summer this year.

everyone should just do the Nintendo approach and host their own direct.
Rayman is a nice little series. And seeing Ubisoft's output in general, it's one of their more consistent series amusingly enough.

As for E3, it needs to keep existing so the diversity tranny brigade can cannibalize another big stage to talk about oppression!

But yes, Nintendo was right and there is a reason why more and more companies just do that and cut the horseshit.

I miss e3 2010. Not only was there Konami's absolutely glorious trainwreck of a conference but they also revealed Portal 2 and 12 year old me absolutely lost her shit. I was so hyped. Good times maaaan...

Yeah, E3 2010's the pinnacle. Here's a bit of extra stuff from the world of rhythm games to enhance the absolute shitshow of Konami's conference: Naoki "You can move your fat body freely" Maeda was the artist for a large number of songs in Dance Dance Revolution's early days, but with those early days being '98-'02, there wasn't a lot online about him. This picture floated around, and I even remember some debate on whether he was a man or a woman. Because, well, look at him.

He also had a self-insert as a background dancer in DDR 5th Mix, which certainly didn't help. He's supposed to be the one in the cowboy hat:

His discography in DDR was extensive, and he went by a lot of aliases, so he seemed like a pretty talented guy. None of us had ever seen a video, or heard the guy's voice, until E3 2010, where he came out and made an absolute jackass out of himself. That was the first and last time I've ever seen the guy in motion. The man went from a man of mystery to a hilarious jackass in like 10 minutes. What an absolute lad.

I'd say that E3 2013 was the second to final good E3 show, mainly because it gave us a reason to mock the Xbone for looking like a VCR and that it was mainly built-in to track other devices (something that was, at the time, completely new, and even today, rather dystopian).

I miss the good ol' days. Almost everything is complete soulless garbage that it's downright depressing.

Both SEGA and Tencent subsidiary Level Infinite will not attend E3 2023, the two companies said.
“After careful consideration, we have decided not to participate in E3 2023 as an exhibitor,” SEGA said in a statement provided to IGN. “We look forward to sharing more information on announced and unannounced projects in the future.”
A Level Infinite spokesperson also confirmed it will not attend the event.
IGN reached out to a number of other publishers regarding their plans to attend E3 2023. Bandai Namco declined to provide an update, but confirmed it would attend Geoff Keighley’s in-person, media-only event Play Days, which was also held in 2022 in early June. Level Infinite also confirmed its attendance.
Devolver Digital, which never actually attends E3, but sets up its own event in an adjacent parking lot, said it also has no plans to attend the event this year, but is currently “well underway” in the production of its annual Devovler Direct scheduled for June.
IGN also reached out to Activision Blizzard, Electronic Arts, Embracer Group, Epic Games, Square Enix, Take-Two, and Warner Bros. Games, but did not hear back in time for publication. The outlet reports that it understands more publishers plan to skip E3 2023, but have yet to make an official announcement.
E3 2023 will run from June 13 to 16 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. So far, Ubisoft and Nintendo have confirmed they will not attend; Microsoft is reportedly planning to host its own physical event the week before E3, with an Xbox Games Showcase confirmed for June 11; and Sony Interactive Entertainment has not participated at an E3 since E3 2018.
E3 is fucking dead.

E3 2020: cancelled
E3 2022: cancelled
E3 2023: ostensibly still scheduled as of late March 2023, but literally everyone big and small is pulling out, and nobody knows who's left
