Honestly, is there even anything that could be announced that anyone would give a shit about?

I hate to be the doomer here, but anything worth thinking about has either already been announced, is so far out we're not getting an announcement, or is Sony, so it already came and went and didn't get talked about.

Short of a completely new IP, or Capcom or Konami pulling some wild ass stunt and reviving an old franchise, what are we even hoping for here?

Capcom seems to be playing it extremely safe lately. I don't think anyone's waiting for anything. The people that are excited about new game releases in general are just waiting for another sequel to their favorites. The amount of games that were going to be a completely new IP from good devs in the past 12 years that just died is staggering.

I wait for nothing, and usually only find out a game I'm vaguely interested in is coming out a few days before it hits because the amount of delays that happen now makes me not even pay attention. I think only young people could possibly tune into anything like this with expectations. I wish I could care.

I don't think I understand your question. The entire point of E3 is games and game announcements. Occasionally you get some new hardware, but other than Nintendo announcing another colour for the switch, I don't see that happening.

The point I'm making is what could possibly be announced that anyone would care about? All of the big series already have their next sequel announced and dated for the next year, or in cases like FF7R-2, are so far away that they're not going to, so, outside of new IPs, which are a huge rarity, what is there for us to hope for? Take the Bethesda showcase. It's probably going to be Starfield, a teaser for TES6, and some garbage shovelware no one cares about. They're not going to announce Fallout's next location, since that game isn't due til 2028-ish, at best.

We don't know. That's the point.

The most interesting games so far imo are Stray (a new IP) Space Marine 2 (a surprise sequel) and Boltgun (debatable). None of which were leaked or announced ahead of time as far as I know.

If you're only interested in very specific information (like the setting of the next Fallout), then you're setting yourself up for disappointment for the very reasons you described.

Stray was announced somewhere around two or three years ago at E3, and Space Marine 2 was shown last year. Bolt gun is AFAIK, new, but it kind of falls into the shovelware category.

Those are the things people are hoping for. There are tons of announcements that would make people excited. People would lose theirs minds over Silent Hills being revived or Metal Gear Rising 2 or some good metal gear remakes. It's on the companies for not making that happen and churning out diversity hire Silent Hill: Life is Strange instead. People would be hyped about Dino Crisis or Breath of Fire or Castlevania and such being brought back, there are millions of possible things that could get people excited. The fact that they wont happen is the companies failure. You seem to be trying to equate hoping for things with expecting things. Nobody expects anything, especially not from Konami

Though, I'd say it's less mixing the two up, and more me being so devoid of hope from these fuckers, I briefly forgot hope was a thing.

Though, after Dragon Quarter and that mobile game, I'm not sure if I WANT Capcom to remember BoF. The days of Krei and Fou Lu are LONG behind us.

So the developers were not competent enough to make their own player-physics and had to steal Nintendo's time-tested and successful code for the foundation of their game. They opted not to do the hardest part.

That builds confidence.

Something to laugh at, as is tradition, every June. Corona-chan really dried up game development, didn't she? Next year will be barren too, and then in '24 we'll see all the games developed post-Coronavirus, and hopefully The Legend of Zelda: Meth for my Child

Nintendo could tell us more about Splatoon, not that I care about that game. We could also get more Suicide Squad from WB, Fable or Everwild from MS or lolBG&E2 from Ubisoft.
