They tried and it went nowhere and people forgot that it happened. The Table top crowd has a ton of LGBTQ people though so it was not an incorrect course of action to try and pander to them. That happening was most the fault of Corona.
People stayed home and played board games and that lead to D&D and then everything went from there. Hasbro even brought back Hero Quest and is planning a full D&D revival.
