E3 (but not really) 2022

In the gameplay department it left a lot to be desired. The controls were mostly OK, but the side quests and objectives for both games were not really fit for that type of game. Combat also had a ton of useless abilities that just were not good or outright useless. I think the Ark of Time having a stealth section was a big red flag that the designers had no idea what to do with the series.
I played quite a bit of the original recently, and yeah, this is true. Combat heavily drags down the game when it is present as the game was not designed for it. Stealth also seems great in theory, but then the mechanics basically undermine the entire concept as you take a casual stroll along the edge of the map. The title’s strengths were its gameplay in relation to exploration and puzzles/quests. There are tons of cool challenges that test the abilities that play to the titles’ strengths, but the game never fully commits and instead gets bogged down by its weaker aspects.

Basically, it is a game with a great personality and main gameplay hook that tanks when it deviates from that, which happens more often than it should. I have yet to try the sequel, so I don’t know if it fixes the issues.

In comparison to Astrobot who's art direction may come off as a little too safe or corporate. Astrobot has the platforming mechanics nailed down near perfectly. It's controls feel the way they should. Everything handles well and the side objectives don't come off as obtuse or annoying. This is for both Rescue Mission and for Astro's Playroom. It really gave me the feeling of playing Spyro the first time where you witness another company successfully pulling off 3d platforming as well as Nintendo usually does.
Astro is the weakest of the current Sony 3D platformers, but it definitely fills a role of being the beginner 3D platformer and is well controlled. People are not giving it enough credit, it is a fun 2-3 hour adventure that really pays great respect to Sony’s legacy having nice callbacks to franchises from PS1-4. There is no big spectacle with Astro, but the game is consistent and never hits a low. If you had the choice though, definitely play Sackboy or Ratchet over it.

I guess I do prefer Astro to Gravity Rush as well. Sorry @Vyse Inglebard, I guess I gotta get in.

Let us know the interesting tidbits please :)
