E3 (but not really) 2022

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
Back on the UNDERTALE tangent. I completely agree that the game is nothing like Earthbound.
The humour, art-style, map design and combat are all completely different. It's clearly INSPIRED by Earthbound but I'd say that even Yume Nikki is much closer despite also being very distinct.
It also helps that Earthbound is in a familiar modern setting whereas UNDERTALE is almost completely fantastical.

If anything, I'd say that UNDERTALE is *far* more like Mario & Luigi with it's linear dungeon design, focus on puzzles and dynamic combat with very distinct enemy behaviours.
They're leaning into it even harder with DELTARUNE's overworld hazards and Bros. Attack analogues.

I want both and a proper Sakura Wars and Shining Force and a single player Phantasy Star.

You'd think with Persona 5 and Yakuza: Like a Dragon being two of SEGA's best selling games in ages they'd think "Hey, maybe we should make more turn based RPGs" but no, you get woke LGBTQNFT shooter
A new Phantasy Star would literally kill woke culture.

For anyone that thought there was supposed to be something today, turns out it's tomorrow
It's in moonspeak, but I'll give a cheap translation via DeepL

I'm guessing the majority of them found out about it through Smash Bros.

Same as how people wound up knowing about Kid Icarus or Mother 3
F-Zero was always kinda boring compared to games like Test Drive II and Top Gear. When NFS came out a few years later it blew all of those away.

COVID shut down a lot of their hotels and probably fuck hotels as well so they had to go back to making some games.
If this is their attempt at making a net profit again, they're going to be bankrupt in five years.

As far what Nintendo will do for E3, I would be very surprised if they decided to give Captain Falcon his own standalone game. I’m sure Smash Bros fans would love it, right up there with a F-Zero sequel.
Not gonna lie, a Platinum developed game that had both on foot beat-em-up sections with combat on par with Anarchy Reigns/Astral Chain combined with conventional racing sections could be good. The on foot sections could be Captain Falcon tracking down criminals, seeing as how he is a bounty hunter.
