The main point here isn't what specifically happens, could shut down, age verify, strike a fall guy, transfer ownership, anything. The point is in the near future, the entire thing of "furry" will be a chaotic and very exploitable mess.

I feel you're putting too much weight on that site. E621 is just an aggregator, if it goes down furries will just have to go to any of the other sites similar to it or find art at the source. Considering how often artists nuke their art off that site they're already used to branching out

E621 is just an aggregator

It is the largest host of all furry content, porn or otherwise, and is likely more known than FA within furry. E621 is the central nexus of furry -- I get the take that that's putting to much weight on it, but if E6 shut down tomorrow, then it's just Telegram channels and furries on X, which adds in to another problem (cybertoaster mentioned at) of the fandom being top/clout-heavy and the rest smothered out to AI.

Besides the mainstream boorus which mostly ban furry art, I think the largest other aggregator is Inkbunny, which (to my knowledge) is far less used and even more degenerate, even if it's not yet under legal pressure. Yeah, they could just make a new site, but considering that somehow hasn't happened yet - it's incredibly easy from a technical perspective, I don't think it will. At minimum there will be a good amount of chaos, maybe a month's time.
