I had dubious access to ebt for a short time and was completely blown away at all the delicious meats and nice foods I could get with it. I can only wonder how people squander it on shit food and get fat as fuck, soda and sweets should have never been allowed and it blew me away that it ever was. Anyway I don't think anyone will really starve much less the disabled unless you are isolated and no one gives a shit about you.
I have faced starvation for a couple rounds, people courteous enough to help just assumed I was anorexic. Anyway if you ask for food you'll damn near always get it, most people are not that evil as to deny it. We should be relying on eachother in times of need, not the government teat. I don't believe people who are disabled should be left to live entirely alone.
It is weird that recipients can use gibs to buy say, bottled water (which you can get for free from the tap and isn't nutritious
per se... at all, it literally has no nutrients) or other junk food categories like soda and candy. Actually the junk food makes a minimal and grim sense, because poor people many not have access to a kitchen and need shelf stable food that tastes the same even if it's been mishandled for a long time.
It might be a damned if you do damned if you don't thing. People will judge the poors for using SNAP if they use it to buy chips and soda, they will judge the poors for buying uneconomic convenience food like microwave soup or frozen dinners or those space-food applesauce packets that are nearly impossible for your toddler to spill, they will judge the poors if they're buying 'luxury food' like fresh meat, or mangoes, or shrimp, or lettuce n avocado etc. Maybe that's why SNAP doesn't discriminate and lets people buy whatever food so long as it's edible and isn't booze; somebody would find a reason to nitpick if they had any exclusions. (TBF they do exclude hot prepared food. So like, a take n bake pizza is eligble, a pizza baked at the store isn't.)

None. This country makes so much food that like 1/3rd of it goes into the trash uneaten. There's a reason that the US has historically been slap happy with food aid - it's extremely cheap diplomacy to send sacks of rice and corn to South Korea and it props up commodity farmers because the feds are buying a lot of it to ship abroad.
The Gov't even buys strategic stockpiles of frozen beef and has a giant cheese and butter cave somewhere in Minnesota so that farmers won't go broke if the price of butter dips.
Remember, all of this is happening because the Dems are throwing a hissyfit over the Big Beautiful Bill. As usual, their strategy is to blame Bad Orange Man for a problem they created.
