It’s November, if you can’t get food donations during the only time of year where every organization is collecting them, that is your problem. Go to a church or a food bank and stop being pickier than people who get by on low wages or with dependents without gibbs.

Food is a basic necessity and most people will even offer to buy an obvious street junkie a sandwich, infact, the last dude with a sign I ran into offered me a chicken biscuit because he was just given three of them. If you’re a decent person, your neighbors will give you a cup of sugar or leftovers and friends will stock your freezer with lasagna.

If any of this sounds harsh, you’re not actually suffering from food insecurity, you just want the money. That’s not what this program is for. EBT should be replaced with WIC, I am sick of people using the historically real threat of hunger and malnutrition as an excuse to beg for treats and drugs.

I think it’s impossible to starve in the US. If you’re willing to swallow your pride you can find it. These people are guaranteed to have a local church that will help them
 
There is zero risk of starvation in America. Many EBT recipients are afraid of losing their benefits because they don't want to suffer the indignity and humiliation of having to line up for food at the community food bank or local soup kitchen.

Those food banks and soup kitchens wont be able to keep up with demand they're not an infinite resource.

I can whole heartedly recommend this for any Kiwis. LLMs for recipes is good and underrated. I usually tell it a list of stuff I have on hand and ask for recommendations for recipes when I food prep for work meals and balancing it out by telling it what I like. It’s not 100% perfect but it’s been far better than my grad school days of surviving off rice, chicken broccoli or frank and beans.

thats true. We're having this exact problem in Canada right now. food bank usage has doubled since 2019 and on the brink of collapse
Food Banks Canada CEO Kirstin Beardsley says food banks are being pushed to “the brink” and low-income Canadians need help immediately.

Even amerifats can't go that long without food because of diabetes. 1 in 3 americans have diabetes. Even if calorically you could survive not eating, one day without some sugar in your body can kill a diabetic, even with medication. Diabetes is also most common in latino and black people. These niggas can't do a revolution because their sugas will literally kill them.

That is a possibility. More likely, donations will rise to help meet the increased demand. In any case, there are benefits to a temporary stoppage in benefits. It will make recipients realize this is charity and that they do not have a right to eat whatever they want at the taxpayer's expense. And it could lead to more illegal aliens being deported. And on the flip-side, it could lead to increased awareness of how widespread poverty really is in America, leading to demand for higher pay for workers and perhaps even universal basic income.

I'm old enough to have used the fucking stamps in the store because trailer parks are fun places to grow up. Holy shit were those fucking crushing to use.

I'm also old enough to remember how using food stamps and welfare was embarrassing.

Eddie Murphy did a whole thing on "Your poor and on the welfare cause your daddy's an alcoholic and you ain't got no McDonalds!"

Around the 90's, shit changed. Clinton and Reagan both tried to reform welfare, only to have a lot of it gutted by states and the like.

Washington State, for example, once had it where you only received 12 months of cash assistance for YOUR ENTIRE LIFE. When you got assistance they told you exactly how much time you had left. Food Stamps were 3 years max.

The EBT card changed a bunch of shit. You didn't worry about someone spotting your stamps. Didn't have to worry about the neighbors. But the 90's was also the rise of nigger/thug culture. It went from "ewww... food stamps..." to "This our shit."

Take a look at the Chris Rock skits about "THEY TAKING OUR SHITTTT!" sections.

Food stamps have always been a second shadow economy. (In Killeen you could easily buy a gun with food stamps from behind the 7-11 on MLK) Cards added a whole new thing.

But the lack of shame was the big one. Some people started looking at it all as their entitlement just for being alive.

Section-8: Free house
Utility Offsetting: Free electricity, gas, water, trash, sewer
Obamaphone: To talk to all your fellow Gibsmedat Americans
EBT: Your food needs
TANF: Money to spend on your weaves

There are a ton of people who work just under the line or just put in applications at places they'll never be able to work at. Believe me, nobody is more shocked than a Gibsmedat American when they get hired at someplace as a manager based of an application full of misspellings and a poem about your dick that you then wrote BLACK LIVES MATTER on every other question. They didn't do it intentionally, the did it to make it look like they were looking for work. (3-5 places a week)

Back when I had to use it, a family of 5 white people that were in marriage qualified for $400 in stamps. Now, seeing as I'm a decent person, we used on stuff to make more stuff, with some treats and sodas.

But, it was disheartening to see my fellow Americans abuse this shit and laugh about it. Buying $200 in soda (back when a case was $5) to pour out the soda and take the cans in and get the rebate. Selling their cards for 10 to 50 cents on the dollar.

Do you know why they lock up detergent first? It's used as money on the black market.

BUT, at the same time, Corpo America kept running their spreadsheets and algorithms to take as much of America's paycheck as they could while paying out the least they could. Your power bill goes up to build green power generation and never goes back down. They bring in new businesses but hire pajeets or freeloaders. Fast food has pretty much priced itself out because why should I pay $80 for fucking crap when I can spend half that amount and just microwave that shit?

Big realty companies like John L Scott adjust the price to what you show you have. It's why they make you show income before they even talk to you. They got busted in the early teens for showing the same house for different amounts, always "1/3 of your takehome pay", depending on how much the person made. It got dropped because that's not illegal.

The fucking US Army told their lower enlisted "We know we don't pay you dick if you have a family. Go apply for food stamps."

Companies made it so if you're at the bottom of the income pyramid and have a family, well, you can either live like a monk and eat your pride every day or you can just get the gibs and say fuck it. Everyone else does it, and you ain't getting out of this shit.

Section-8 lasts forever. It used to be pretty strict but about the 90's it got easy for spics and camel jockeys, then blacks, then everyone.

The whole thing is about CONTROL. That's why the Dems are acting like this is good for them but they're shitting their pants. People aren't supposed to see the carrot and the stick. Touching those entitlements are a no-no. That's why they were always able to pull this shit before. The Republicans were always "Well, we don't want to look bad because we made the darkies ook and eek and made the career poor sad..." and signed whatever shit-heap bill the Dems provided with a shit eating grin.

Worse, is the system is designed to keep you on the system. Unless you get a huge windfall or get a super-job, you have to replace all that shit instantly. It doesn't taper off.

Make $1600/mo? BOOM! ALL GONE! Now, pay your rent, groceries, utilities, blah blah blah.

Oops, now you're in debt. Lost your job because you couldn't afford a car payment and insurance.

But the biggest problem is that there's not a bit of social stigma connected to it any more.

TL:DR; It's bad, but the system is designed to keep you stuck in it and the companies use that stuff to pay the bare minimum.
 
I keep seeing people complain that their kids won’t eat food bank food…I guess they will when they are truly hungry then. It reminds me of anecdotal stories I’ve read of people in famine ravaged countries letting donated food go to waste because it was foreign and they weren’t familiar with it. I have a hard time believing that.

While I don’t want to live through a Great Depression, sometimes I feel our collective character might benefit from the experience of having to make do with less. So many complaints I read are from people that haven’t ever actually starved or had to do with very little. The people I do know who grew up extremely poor, not just inconvenienced poor, ate what they were given, wore what they had…sure they had sadness about it, but they knew better than to pop off.

Part of this is likely due to food being treated more now as a source of pleasure than of sustenance.

Malnourished though? Yes, those fat poor families you see are 100% malnourished and garbage food addicted and their behavior betrays it.

California is bankrupt. Newsom literally can't afford to keep funding ebt after his disastrous decision to keep funding Medicaid for illegals through a seperate fund for their Healthcare. He's also had the disastrous news that billions have been stolen from the homeless fund AND ebt, just in the last MONTH. The fact that he threw shade at Trump in the email is just a bonus for him. California is a failed state.
 
This is not going to look good for whomever is holding the media reinforced public perception of blame on this. regardless of who is really at fault or more unreasonable. Both sides best remember that. This is a break support issue, whether the republicans and libertardians want to hear it or not. Medical issues and SS as well. These issue are solidly in the "fix them if they aren't working... full stop!" Not treat them like trivialities because you don't personally respect them or threaten/try to cut, break or defund them.

It's both, and in addition the effect of gross systemic exploitation of workers in socialist countries. Walmart is selling cheap goods because they obtain them in bulk from communist China. Government clerks make substantially more than Walmart employees for a fraction of the work. Government administrators make a fortune. Meanwhile Walmart pays taxes and bribes to the Democrats to matan their favorable position.

Workers aren't paid starvation wages, but they are forced to subsidized housing, food and health care. Sometimes they're also forced to pay dues to a union that's in on the scam. This is why the new upper middle class workers are made up almost exclusive of municipal and state employees. The main exceptions are private contractors whose specialized skills make them too valuable to undercut. The very rich are either government leaders or service providers in their pockets.

I've heard US unemployment figures don't take into account the people holding multiple jobs. It really doesn't seem like its that easy to go out and get a job in the US (or even most of the world) right now.

Tons of old, decent paying jobs have been swallowed up by bullshit like doordash and other apps.
