Hmmm... only up for download on what is considered an untrustworthy source from what I've seen so far. Eh, no rush I suppose... the fact it was cracked in like 2 hours is already impressive enough. This is the first time I wish I had a PS4 or PS5... if I like the game I'm gonna have to get one of those discs for a system I don't have because I want something physical if I am going to pay, even if it only houses the potential for use it's better than having nothing on a pure digital purchase.

I pirate pretty much everything besides Souls games. After soloing a couple then getting drunk enough to want to multiplayer the rest I think the added dimension of occasional summons and invasion adds too much to feel optional. They're meant to be experienced with glowy shit everywhere and dickheads (even if most of your adventure is still solo like me), for anyone on the fence.

Anyway, game rules so far. I can kinda see the BotW comparison but it's really just the way an open world Dark Souls would naturally play.
Reminds me of the first game except huge, and instead of forcing you to eat shit through an undead settlement at the start it just drops you in the field right away and lets you find your own suffering

Cool the blood actually looks good in this one instead of the weird low poly black tar looking stuff from DS3.

Man, I am LOVING the game thus far. Going TENNO HEIKA BANZAI as the Samurai has been great fun. The horse combat especially is really fun, I can't imagine the game without it.

Fromsoft be doing some good shit, and I haven't even fought the first real boss yet. Excellent show.

I think it uses the same engine as the rest of the games, which are hacked to shit. They had to shut down online services because it became a rootkit.

Bought it earlier today. It's been a while since I played a Souls game so I'm curious to see how I do.

Magic is nuts in this game and the most fun it has ever been for me. Having a blast in the early game with an int build so far. Probably gonna test a faith build here soon.

Im playing on PC and the performance is fine for me. Have a stutter every now and then for a split second. But it is rare. I have not had the crashes or other issues some people are having/reporting.

Everything souls-y has been probably the best that it's ever been, combat feels smooth and great overall. Bloodborne still feels better, but I just accept they're not gonna top or equal that one.

But everything open-world has been completely boring. It's no different from any AAA craft-a-thon out there, barring that it's pretty (assuming you don't have to nuke your settings to avoid getting random bouts of 10 fps stuttering). I really enjoyed exploring in the other games, especially DS1, but here it just feels like a complete chore. The stuttering really doesn't help it out much, either.

Steam has nuked the Elden Ring reviews.
I'm one of the people who left a negative review. The game runs like crap, has weird hitches fairly often and stutters occasionally. You notice it a lot when it happens at the wrong moment. One moment it runs at 60fps, the next it feels unstable and it really takes away from the experience. Here is what Digital Foundry said about it thus far:

The PC situation is also worth clarifying. As it currently stands the PC version using the latest 1.02 patch has a number of issues that will affect all hardware configurations on all graphical settings presets. Elden Ring is From Software's first foray into low-level APIs on PC and the game uses DirectX 12. As we have seen in other DX12 titles, there can be severe and distracting frame-time stuttering issues.

First there are stutters of up to 250 milliseconds in length when new effects, enemies, and areas appear on screen. These types of stutter lessen as the play experience goes on and enemies, areas, and effects are revisited by the player. A second and more pervasive stutter appears to be tied to loading new game areas - when traversing the terrain, moving from one area to the next can cause minor one-off frame drops a few times a minute, or at worst, tumbling frame-time issues that drop the frame-rate from a steady 60 into the 40s.

Variable refresh rate monitors using G-Sync or Freesync help alleviate a level of the distracting nature of some of these issues, but leaning on the technology is not a good situation in light of how the console versions do not suffer from these stutters. Other issues to note are the lack of ultrawide screen support, no support for frame-rates above 60fps, and unintuitive graphical options that lack visible scaling. As we have seen with other titles suffering from similar issues such as Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Halo Infinite, it could be sensible to wait for further patches before investing time into the PC version of Elden Ring.

I wonder if the console version runs better than PC?

They merged pyromancy with miracles and I'm nuking giants from horsbit.
Also I've been playing for 16 hours and my file/ps dash/whatever still says my progress is 0%. Fromsoft are hilarious.

Yeah I dig how they mixed up the combat they way they did with Bloodborne without doing what they did in Bloodborne. Jump attacks are a much more fluid (and faster) way to enter combat than leading with just heavies etc. I still wish they'd bring back the rally mechanic though.

Apart from that, what the fuck are you talking about? It's way more minimal than a typical AAA open world. There's no quests or quests markers telling you what to do (or many markers at all you don't place yourself besides bonfires), the world is very dense with stuff instead of filler and the crafting is fucking nothing. It's just an alternative to (not) spending your early souls on consumables which was an issue with first playthroughs in all the past games.

Edit: if you compared it to botw and called it boring I'd call that fair though. It has a lot more going on than that game but the usual cold dry way Souls games tend to start out is spread out even further
