I think the stuttering issues may be connected to their patch for the hacks. I have played 16 hours and never ran into stuttering so decided to switch to online to see if maybe that's the issue. I cleared out the Stormfront Gate ruins for the most part without a stutter but I also did not notice any online stuff. Then the stuttering started and messages and phantoms started appearing. So maybe try offline mode to see if the stuttering gets fixed?

How is the performance on the Series X?
Really good I think. Some glitches but nothing game breaking or anything like that.
But it does say it can't log you in online, even though I am on Xbox live. But I don't plan to fo any PVP or co op. So that's not a big deal for me.
First Souls game when I didn't get very frustrated and quit. Played like 4 hours, liking it alot.

I got to the open world area, tried confronting an open world boss, and the game chugs hard. Frames drop. Game stutters. The game speeds up after stuttering. It's so bad the game becomes unresponsive at times and I take hits because of it.

That boss has the worse stuttering there is in the game (At least that I've found), it's something particular to that one boss.

My experience has mostly been fine, there are stutters, but they mostly happen when exploring so it hasn't bothered me too much, I do hope it gets fixed, the game is great it would be a shame for it to stay this way.

I've been told similar things, but that it's still an annoyance. I spent too long in character creation and was bordering my 2 hours on Steam, so I didn't want to risk it. I'm looking forward to get back to it once they fix the problems.

I found a place called like Stormfoot Dungeon, and the enemies in that area are a pain in the ass. And that boss made me think my game was broken at first until I figured out what was going on with it (not gonna spoil it).

Unfortunately, he kills me in two hits and the area is bad for dodging his jump, so I’m going to find where to level up and then come back.

Post-death load on my original series Xbox is killing me, though.

Beat Margit, exploring the castle now. Haven't run into any truly dick-ish enemy placements yet, but I feel like they're waiting for me to drop my guard.

Those wind knights are a bit tough.

After running around Limgrave leveling up a bunch I just beat Margit on my first try using the dogs. My strategy was to get him to his second phase, and then immediately summon the dogs to harass him and serve as a distraction since that's when he goes hyper-aggressive. I'd recommend anyone struggling with him try it.

Edit - Also, wouldn't be a new game release without something like this:

I did the same thing. Doesn't work for his boss unfortunately but the wolves are great for most problems (when you're allowed to summon them).

Wind Knights are assholes. Giving them that aoe they can combo out of is a rough move so early in the game when new players might not have basic sword and shield foes down yet

Just played for a bit more than two hours and met the level-up chick. Only died like two or three times so far; and that will likely change as I progress further. The first boss and my first death was quite a wake up call; this game isn't anywhere near as easy early on as Dark Souls 3 was for me. I did have the good sense to run the fuck away from the dragon in the swamp; but I thought I could kill the tree sentinel early on and that just didn't fucking happen.

The game so far is fucking fantastic and everything I was expecting it to be. Now, they need to fix the slowdown/stuttering or whatever the fuck; so I can enjoy it without having to worry about being fucked over for reasons outside my control.

I'm playing on Series X, having a blast so far. Died to the tree guardian also to a big fucker that drops in when you go through a big gateway defended by ranged enemies.

The horse is fun as fuck and I'm still getting used to the usual interact button now being the jump button.

I'm running it on performance mode and haven't noticed too many frame drops, it's been pretty smooth so far. Only problem I've ran into is that I can't play online. People are saying it's either because on Series X some people are stuck at version 1.02 instead of 1.02.1 and some are saying it's just server congestion but it's frustrating regardless.

Loling hard at every wall having a message in front of it telling you to attack.
Boo that shit got old like four games ago, same with recycled Bloodborne jokes.
Still waiting to encounter whatever the classic Elden message will be that everyone copies forever. I did laugh at "Beware edge, lord ahead" in front of the skull knight armour though.

Edit: and is it just me or is the max message limit really short for such a big game?

I'm 17 hours in, I've had the occasional fps drop in the open world and I've also experienced some stuttering though it only got bad with the Tree Sentinel specifically for some reason, I also encountered a weird glitch where my character got stuck in the air after trying to jump off the horse, it stayed like that for a few seconds and then I died. Other than that I'm having a blast with this game.

Also, it looks like they got wise to people hitting every chest in case it's a mimic, there's a new kind of trap chest and you no longer know if you're gonna get fucked over until you open it, I found one early in the game near where the dragon appears in the lake and when I opened it I got teleported to a late game area, well played Miyazaki.

What the heck is up with that first boss... this is my first souls-like game so the first hour of attempts was basically just learning how the combat even works (I had to learn the roll isn't so much about gaining quick distance, but all about i-frames) but even still damn this bastard is ungodly tough... one mistake and a whole lot of good my completely unused health potions do when I get 100% to 0%'d. I've managed to get him really close, down to about 10%... but damn if not slipping up is hard. I guess I could use the summon thing, and maybe I will if I get too frustrated, but I want to succeed without it at this point.

I've noticed it's a trend with a lot of the enemies in this game to have extremely weird timing patterns on their attacks which are designed to roll catch you if you don't fully study what they can do, it also makes parrying extremely difficult. I think it's because they wanted people to lean into the guard counter/ guard break playstyle, but it makes playing a spellsword way more difficult as a result.

on an unrelated notes, has anyone found a way to farm smithing stone 1s that isn't just popping a silverfoot and killing the iron soldiers outside of the camp at the base of stormhill? the rates are terrible there and my twinblade is stuck at +1, I've only just picked it up after using the estoc for most of the game so far.

I got him down to one hit then he got me. FromSoft even admitted that first boss is a little too tough but didn't nerf him just added something else:

If you go into the river southeast of the Gatefront Ruins, there will be a cave, Murkwater Cave, but you can't enter it. You will be invaded by an NPC but if you just hold out and dodge then another friendly NPC will help you with him. After that go into the cave and you find some bandits and an empty boss room. Open the chest and you will get attacked by Patches. If you spare him and leave and then come back there will be a "Shackle of Margit" for 5000 runes. You can use that a couple of times in the first phase to pin Margit down
