The person who made the decision to map crouch and dismount from Torrent to the left thumbstick needs to be put against the wall. I never sneak and it being mapped to an easily mis- clicked button is gonna be the cause of some future rage for me. Also I think in every horseback fight so far I've randomly dismounted which has caused lots of cheap deaths for me. All That could be completely solved if you could just clear the binding but you can't.
Edit: I'm using a series x controller which might have an extremely sensitive L3
Remap it in options.

Allegedly, Guts’ spirit lives on, and his sword is an Easter egg in the game.

The overworld has grown on me, as past the intro area, the environments do begin to look genuinely unique and interesting, rather than the lock-stock and barrel open-world fantasy thing. Stuttering is fairly rare by this point, though I still from time to time can run into a good ten seconds straight of 10-fps and extreme chugging out of nowhere, then right back to right as rain.

I really hope some of the bosses allow me to actually play aggressively. Want to know how you fight Crucible Knight if you don't use a shield? You roll and counterattack exactly once, twice if you've evaded his big 4-hit combo. Except during phase 2, he gets the cool tail swipe - which also makes every single one of his attacks safe. So you only counterattack whenever he throws the tail out, and if he doesn't throw the tail out, you just stand there. Frequently in the fight, you will just be standing still while he circle-strafes you for five seconds, but there's no point in doing anything else. This makes him easy as piss, but my god is it fucking boring.
Bashed my head against that guy for a good hour because of that tail.

Fun fact: he has two tail attacks! One's the combo-ender, the other is a huge sweep he does that'll hit you from half the arena away. Thankfully, he does the regular one first, and both swings have the same timing, so it's not hard to dodge.

At least his armor's kind of nifty.

I’d bet decent money the monsters at the castle way down in the south are homages to Aphex Twin’s face in the Come To Daddy / windowlicker music videos

I might be sleep deprived but anybody notice how a lot of the horizontal tree roots seem to have a stretched-out texture on them that looks just like those knothole giants from DS3 when viewed from the right angle? Seems like there's a bunch of super subtle stuff like that to put Space Demons in your eyes. And LOD pop-in makes it even spoookier

trying to use ds4 to play PC is annoying
the game freaked out when there is a "two" controller connected (Keyboard and mouse + ds4)

Just put 13 hours in, next to no preformance issues. Really enjoy the game Just feels like an open world DS3 with much more refined mechanics.

It's a while ago since I used it but IIRC there's some kinda "hide device" option in ds4 that's off by default but you should just leave on all the time because the unvirtual controller confuses some games that can (sometimes only partially) detect it when you want to use the virtual one.

It feels like I put 12 hours in but according to Steam I've only put in a little over 6 hours.

Margit is beating my fucking ass. So much that I fucked off and went exploring and level up. I got a Claymore and a greatsword. Then I killed an NPC and got a Katana but I need to level up the Dex by about 10 points. I also need to level up my Strength by about 10 points to use the Guts Greatsword. Sigh. I did brace the terrible frame rate at the starting area and killed the guy on horseback. The fight is retarded easy once you get your steed.

I don't know if I like this or not yet.

Use DS4Windows which gives the option to "hide" your DS4 controller from the computer and emulate an xbox controller instead. Works perfectly on my machine, you just have to put up with the xbox controller prompts on screen.

I found Edgar. An NPC who has an amazingly good Halberd. A Halberd so good it dramatically improved my chances against Margit and after another dozen attempts I beat him. I think my character is still under-leveled but I did it. And I did it without summoning.

Now I'm going to sleep.

The game is nice and I'm having fun...but there is one problem:

The world is big but way too empty. You are running/riding trough big landscapes that only have grass, trees, ruins etc. but there is nothing to do besides collecting plants & hunting animals and that makes it boring in the long term.

Also I really like the unique, sometimes weird looking NPCs.

Margit seems to be a little overkill at the moment. Fast and zippy with short openings like a late game Dark Souls or normal Bloodborne boss.
I beat him using a greatsword and the jellyfish summon. He can be poisoned if you've found the recipes for the throwing knives (jelly poisoned for me). With a boss this twitchy so early on there is no shame cheesing a little with poison.

You can buy an item from Patches that will let you bind him to the ground in phase one. I missed it completely and had to suck it up but it would've been very helpful. You have to either sneak past the lake dragon or kill it to get to the cave where Patches lives.

Found another Mining Tunnel for some more Blacksmith Stones (1), Morne Tunnel down south. Also has a weapon from the boss in there that's an axe that's an anchor.
