Yeah whether he turns up in DLC or not, I think it's implied that he's not actually completely dead since Mohg seems pretty convinced he's coming back (most people seem to think he's just being pathetic but I believe him) and Malenia hanging out under his tree (which seems to have a him trying to grow out of it) could be interpreted the same way. It's not like she talks about him past tense.
I interpreted it as him not being able to reincarnate because Mohg's keeping him on life support and coming back seems like something they're supposed to be able to do given the Lichdragon trying to fight even Destined Death.

And re: potential cut content (speaking more generally than just this) I think we just have to play it where it lies unless datamining turns up something unambiguous.
Like, even if something actually is the result of that, if there's an Elden Ring 2 or a DLC it'll be Miyazaki's job to hit a blunt and build off whatever was actually on the screen, so we might as well just roll with that as well in the meantime.
Gideon says that Miquella is basically hibernating as a defense mechanism. None of the demi-gods die after you defeat them beyond Radahn (I think he physically falls apart after you beat him). No one in setting can die because the Erdtree is broken. Beating Malkeith let's natural death occur in the world again outside of the Erdtree's authority, it's why the tree actually starts burning rather than just it's leaves.

Also someone found a hidden boss in Mistwood that only appears if you use an emote.

I fully agree, but there's some fuzziness around how the rules actually apply to demigods for multiple overlapping reasons some of which might suggest that the reason they don't die and/or the mechanism for how they're reborn might be different or vary more specifically. And also some reason to think almost literally everybody else might actually also be technically a demigod which renders that moot. In any case they do say "died/dead/death" a lot, they just don't really mean it.

The only thing that doesn't make sense to me is his rune... why would Melenia have a rune, but not Miquella? Why would Mohg and Morgott both have runes, but only Melenia does? To me, Miquella's great rune is still MIA, unless somehow it was absorbed into Mohg's (which you would think the item description would say). My theory is that Miquella's cocoon is a catalyst to launch the story of a planned DLC, similar to the painting in Anor Londo was in Dark Souls. Saving a Great Rune for the DLC would make sense, since they have a gameplay purpose and not just a story purpose. Also, since you can enter the dream of Godwyn, I don't see why you couldn't enter the dream of Miquella.

Edit: apparently dataminers have found references to Miquella in cut content that support my theory

So Miquella is slumbering, and he has a dream. A world, in fact. I am calling it now, we're definitely going to have a DLC set in the world created by the dreams of this sleeping Empyrean. The seeds have been sown. Miquella being St. Trinas also explains why descriptions say there's confusion over whether Trinas was a girl or a boy. Presumably, Miquella could take either form, the same way his "mother" could appear as either Marika of Radigon.
To this I only say: When did a FromSoft DLC actually answered old questions, instead of just bringing up new ones?
Cut content usually shows up in their next game in some way or another. Not in a DLC.

bloodborne and ds3
i'll get back to you (not really) on the other two when i replay them

Artorias was a heavily referenced character in launch DS1, the entire forest area was considered his grave, and Sif attacks you for trespassing on it. The key item you use to open the door in the darkroot garden is named after him. He's one of the four knights of Gwyn, a group also mentioned in the base game. It wasn't until the DLC came out that people got to see who he was and what actually happened to him.

In a similar vein, Ludwig was heavily referenced in the lore of base game Bloodborne, and so was the Great One, Kos. Maria wasn't referenced, I don't think, but she definitely answered some questions, too.

The Ringed City of Dark Souls 3 gave resolution to the plot point of the furtive pygmy all the way back from the story intro of Dark Souls 1.

Those are what I can think of off the top of my head. Definitely gotten a lot of answers over the years

Did they nerf the Moonveil Blade? I level up INT to be able to use it and I'm just not impressed with the weapon art at all. I've been mainly sticking to the Ghiza Wheel (pizza cutter) and a maxed out Nagikaba and doing okay but what are the quote unquote "OP" weapons now?

Not really. Showing them doesn't answer questions.

Then Old Iron King DLC from DS2? Explains where the name alone Raime went and why, where the iron taken from Harvest Valley was processed and molded including how the fire burns, what the Old Iron King was in fact the king of, why his part of the world has weeb swordsman in it, a bit more info on Egyil or whatever his name is (guy that made the iron bull right next to the OIK arena), what a Smelter Demon turns into when left alive for a while, the fire giving way to magic as it assumedly guards its location, and finally how the Old Iron King arose as a lord in the first place- with the help of Sir Alonne, hence why his kingdom is in ruins as the real source of his power up and left due to how he became corrupt.

It's been years since I've looked into DS2's lore but with all of that coming to mind after starting this reply, I think it's safe to say that DLC at least tried its best to explain the backstory of one of the great soul bosses.

I mean Dual Wielding Rapiers isn't so far off from Katana's. Those things get 4 attacks from jumping and easy access to Scarlet Rot.
What about UGS or greatspear pokes into giant hunt users, or is that fine because it dabs on twinks?

Also, the flaming strike ash is great for strength builds due to the range on most strength weapons and being able to semi confirm the second hit. Combine it with flame grant me strength and you have all sorts of fun.

Gideon outright says Miquella isn’t dead and wonders if we should just kill him in the egg once you off Mohg.

Now I have to buy the game to find the Knight Who Says "Gger"

I mean at least its different from Katanas with Status Effects or Rapiers with Status Effects or Twinblades with Status Effects. I mean the TwinBlades one makes since for now due to them getting bonus Status Effect.

Is there a better helmet out there than the iron mask? I've been using it forever and I'm tired of looking at it. Even the Radahn helm doesn't beat it

People always say this and I'm left baffled every time because the answer is almost all of them save DS3, which had a mess of a story to begin with so they used the DLC as a chance to capitalize on the original apocalyptic vision the game was meant to have.

Dark Souls: The main game heavily foreshadows and talks up Artorias, who we meet in the DLC and learn that his ultimate fate was one of failure brought on by corruption of the Abyss. Several of the enemy types that were originally dummied out of the vanilla release got finished and properly implemented in the roster for new enemy types. Manus is heavily implied to be the furtive pygmy, who is mentioned as early as the CGI creation myth intro to the game but is mysteriously absent from the boss roster without the DLC. Winds up filling the gaps left in the original story.

Dark Souls 2: Expands on the main themes of civilizations lost to time and what it means to be a king. Is the key to attaining what your character sought all along, a cure for the undead curse, and the SOTFS edition added a much needed 'walk away' option as well as an implied alternative to the endless cycles of light/dark.

Bloodborne: Answers questions regarding the doll's origin/who she was based after, the first hunters, the ultimate fates of important characters like Laurence and Ludwig. The entire plotline about the fishing hamlet is actually repurposed lore intended for Cainhurst, where a bunch of hunters showed up, massacred the place for evil science and stole the unborn child of a great one. All of these were gaping questions left open for expansion in the base game that got their gaps retroactively filled with the DLC.

Dark Souls 3: Paintings and shit lmao. This is the one that has the least setup and goes the most bizarre places that feel mostly unrelated to the core game but that's because Namco didn't like the idea of Dark Souls as a franchise 'ending' and wouldn't let From make a game that apocalyptic. Even then, it capitalizes on the original theme of the world ending and everyone needing to escape into a new one altogether, and The Ringed City is a repurposed area originally intended to be in the game called Gods' Grave. I'd say the only reason it wasn't something more conventional like Londor or having snake people is because the game was a huge mess and they had a bunch of incongruous assets that they needed to use.

But yeah they absolutely do use DLC as an avenue for repurposing cut content. Miquella is the easiest way to follow up the base game as it is in the style of DLC from is used to making, so if that's not what it is then I'll be floored.

The capitol is going to make me tear my hair out. The hardest part of this game isn't the combat, it's navigating these big ass dungeons.

Honestly just change to a different helmet and don't worry about it. It'll barely make a difference in the damage you take. If you do want a real upgrade, do the assassination missions for the Volcano manor and get the Bull Goat set.

It's overwhelming at first but not that bad when you calm down and just try and enjoy it. You'll even open up some shortcuts that I didn't really bother using for the most part. It's just kind of bullshit that the Anal Rodeo knights pat deux make a return of sorts but this time WITH LIGHTNING ARROWS whooooaaaaaa.

Just run around a bit and try and find some sites of grace to take the pressure off, God knows it helped me. I nearly threw my controller when they made me fight yet another retarded not-Asylum Demon in the main street.

It's not the enemies giving me problems, it's finding my way around. These densely packed areas throw off my sense of direction. Although I did just fight a new boss after putzing my way into the lower slums so I think I'm headed in the right direction finally.

@Mega Black:
It's just guesswork. Everyone assumed Manus to be the furtive pygmy, without any hard evidence, only for the Ringed City DLC to drop and have a whole pygmy royalty, all inclusive with a statue showing how Gwyn crowns him himself. You can still make the assumption he is Manus with a lot of mental gymnastics, but that's just what it is: Wild mass guessing where a lot of interpretations could be true. Lots of cons and pros for many stuff without anything concrete. And it is like that by design. This kind of vagueness is built into these games as a way to make you think about and not forget them. I'm 99% sure that's also why the endings don't give you real closure: To intrigue you to spent more time in this world, searching for answer, as this itch for understanding how it exactly works is just not scratched. At least for me. Theres still lot of stuff unaccounted for in those old games that I'm not even asking about right now because it will just cause pointless debates.

I also don't understand the appeal of meeting chars in DLCs and put them to rest in a boss fight with no deeper payoff. Because that's just what is going to happen with Miquella, too, and it's just kind off underwhelming for me.

I realize I come off somewhat as a downer. That's not what I want. I like the Soulsborne games and hope FromSoft make more of them, but I would also like if they stop some things that annoy me since even Demon Souls.
