Finally beat Radahn...leading me to Nokron and stopping at the stupid fucking gargoyles...eventually went up to Atlus explored a bit and found myself exploring Volcano manor and stumbled upon Rykard. Took me like 40ish minutes to learn but beat his ass lol
I picked the game up for the first time in quite a while, over a month, I had even forgotten where certain functions where(tried to sprint by hold A). Putting a game down for a while can actually make you better at it.

First attempt at Radahn. It was pretty sweaty.

It wasn't his physical attack that killed me, it was getting hit with all the balls at point blank range.

Second attempt(got stuck between his legs) and third attempt(don't remember what killed me) but I was getting better, I had five out of seven flasks left.

(why is the scenery still red? just noticed that)

Then I had a brilliant idea, why don't I unequip the weapons I don't use to lighten the equip load and put on some better armor.

I don't know why I even had a shield equipped, I never used it in any of my attempts but it seemed like a good idea.

I kept getting smashed by Radahn...stopped playing for a month ish and came back went 'fuck it' and respecced and upgraded an ice rapier...killed him in like 40 seconds lol. I also never use a shield.

Finally got my new PC (3060 ti with a 5600x), and I'm having a blast with this. Given that it's my first Soulsborne game, I thought I would have ragequit at some point, but surprisingly not. Maybe because when I get stuck somewhere I can just go somewhere else?

Still haven't managed to beat any of the bosses (barring the "boss" from the start), but I'm not sure if that's because this is my first Soulsborne game and I'm still a scrub at battling, because I'm level 10 or so and still wearing all of the starting equipment, or both.

Armor doesn’t really matter that much and can’t be upgraded. Explore things with “tunnel” in the name to find upgrade materials for weapons. Weapon level and the stats that correspond with the best letter grade for scaling are the most important things. Do damage and learn to dodge.

You’ll be fine

So do the final bosses get difficult? I just murderdeathkilled Mohg and Rykard and Astel yesterday first try like it was nothing. Im probably a bit overleveled (130s) but I have my stats spread over Vigor (40, my highest stat), Mind, Endurance, Strength, Dexterity, and Faith (second highest at 32), with Intelligence a little bit behind, so it's not like I've got 80 in Faith or Intelligence and am just melting everything in 4 seconds with sorceries or incantations. Also got my weapons leveled up +9 and +10 for my dagger and sword and +21 atm on my godslayer's seal so that probably explains it...

If you want to figure out how bosses work(like Margit), don't attack him. Figure out how you can move around him, dodge and figure out his windups . One tip, in my opinion, is to roll INTO his attacks and not away. If you roll away he might still clip you when the iframes(invincibility frames) of the roll runs out. This is true for some other bosses as well, such as several of Tree Sentinel's long sweeps with his halberd.

Later on, remember that you can jump. Some bosses or enemies do what can be called shockwave attacks that rolls across the ground. Jump over them.

Early on, and I made a BIG mistake here, put your levels into health. I did not do that and got close to one-shotted by everything above scrub enemies. At least it made me really good at quickstep(a fast ash of war dodge-roll alternative) out of necessity.

Catacombs are often hated because of the imps/gargoyles, but get a smashy weapon(flail, mace, something that seems like it can crack rocks) and a bow(to aggro them one by one when you see them in the distance) and it's no problem.

Explore rooftops in the castles(legacy dungeons) like Stormwind, there's lots of stuff there and it leads to new areas with even more stuff.

The best advice might be this for soulsborne in general: don't be scared, when you get scared you get stressed, which leads to panic moves, which leads to fucking up and death is now almost certain.

Some of the final bosses (Maliketh, Hoarah Loux, Radagon) may pose a more significant threat because they tend to not leave as many openings for spell casters. But considering you've got enough vigor to handle all of the vigor checks, you should be good unless you go full DSP

Some of the side bosses, like Commander Niall and Malenia can kick your ass way more than mid game bosses or even end game. I think you probably were overleveled for all three. I hit both Astel and Rykard around 100 and they were not a breeze, but not too difficult. Ended getting around to Mogh in the 130s-140s, and completely annihilated him.

Niall and his two knight butt buddies was the fight that finally broke me of ill just smash the roll button 3 times in a row and be out of trouble. Like not button mashing it 20 times in 2 seconds, but 3 times in a quarter second sure lol. Not anymore after niall

I just played a bit and I'm not sure where to go next. After Radahn I went to Nokron(which was a disappointment, I had forgotten why I was was there and thought Nokron itself would be a dungeon of sorts). Ranni got the thing and I kept tooling around in the underground, killing approximately 8,000 mud men and 5,000 ants. Getting flasks back after some encounters is a really nice feature, you can go longer/further without feeling the need to retreat to a site of grace.

I'm kind of lost now, should I just go to the Plateau? The lady from Liurna have invited me to the manor so that's done. (I'm around level 70)

edit: decided to ride around some areas I haven't really explored, gotten some more sites of grace, and I'm less miffed by Radahn now. That boss taught me something about horse combat and I've encountered and taken down three nights cavalry now, previously I tried to fight them on foot because that felt more comfortable and it didn't go well. Now I even did them on the first try whenever I saw one.

This is going to be useful when I start actually grinding instead of just exploring. I've been dumping everything into str out of the idea that the faster I kill my enemies, the less time they have to kill me.

This too. I know there's a merchant down on the beach that has a bow and a club.

This is probably going to be the most useful, given how much trouble I've been having with the bosses. I knew that you were supposed to learn their patterns, but I was having trouble surviving long enough to manage that. Dodge into the rolls. Got it.

Okay, so don't waste runes on armor. Good to know. Also good to know where to find those smithing stones. I've found a few, but I've only got like 20-30 of them.

Use your runes on whatever you'd like, you get way more than you'd need, and paying a small amount of change for armor to be fashionable is half the fun of these games.

Oh no, oh no, that is similar to the mistake I made. Weapons will scale with your strength[stats] as you level them up but at this point you probably don't have many smithing stones to make them +10 etc.
I went for dex/end as a bandit for a similar reason and that was a mistake. I beat Margit with 550hp or whatever it was because I never put a point/level into health and it was a pain in the ass. At level 50+ my lifebar was finally longer than my stamina bar.

Put points into health early on. Alternatively get quickstep and bloodloss weapons and get good at those, that's what I had to do. fucking horse combat sucks with a knife... I've since upgraded to a sword.

Eh. I was only like, level 12 or something. After getting it up to 20, I switched over to Vigor.

Altering armor can be beneficial at times. Altering reduces the original stats as well as the weight of the armor. So you can actually wear some of the better heavy armors without fat rolling while having better stats than your robes.

Think of the effect of armor as “breakpoints” between surviving an attack and not surviving an attack.

It’s pretty unlikely that the 10% mitigation difference between one set and another heavier one is really going to translate into surviving an attack, at least from mid game and later bosses.

It does have some use tho, surviving 3 hits to 1 hits is huge.

And especially if you use any of the Sore Seals or items that let's you take more damage. Those items basically strip you of armor ratings, so you can actually wear heavy altered armor and carry a sore seal, which gives you decent defense while having boosted stats. Which is still way better than wearing full robes.

I heard bamco got hacked, and I keep seeing this image floating about, ngl it looks fake but 2023 seems likely for any ER DLC

Barbarians of the Badlands sounds so cringe and fake

Although that big area north of Altus/west of the Giant mountains and the other one south of the Giant mountains look like they'd be pretty badland-y

I kinda hope we go to the Land of Reeds or whatever land the Numen come from or somewhere else outside the lands between, if it's gonna be a Miquella DLC maybe with Mohg dead someone else kidnaps him and takes him to far off country and as Elden Lord we must pursue because reasons
