I literally spent the last eight hours working my way down the Haligtree and getting to the boss. A bunch of time was spent in the room at the center with the giant lake of red rot stuff... I didn't see a small passage with a ladder off to the side so got stuck. Anyway the boss. She's got two forms???

ARRRRRGH. The one was hard enough. I like this game, this Elden Ring. It's fun enough. But you can call me a liar if I ever pretend to know what the hell is going on in this game. The story is thin and pretty bad and confusing. I don't know what the fuck this game is and I'm not entirely sure why I am doing most of what I am doing. But I'm playing it because it is fun. Usually.
The story of Elden Ring is simple. Unfathomable eldritch abomination gods want to control the Lands Between for some reason and empower various inhabitants to be their Lands Between bottom bitch. Drama and horror ensues in the struggle as nearly all of these Chosen eventually turn against their eldritch masters and try to wield the Elden Pimp Hand for themselves

Except I'm gonna do it and succeed! I will be the Elden Ring.

Finally got around to Rennala. First phase was a piece of cake, even if it took me way too long to figure it out my first try, draining most of my health pots. Second phase took me a few tries, though. It'd be nice if there was a Stake of Marika or a Grace outside of her room, so you didn't have to run all the way back and take an elevator.

Also, anyone get the feeling that the Ancestor Spirit was originally supposed to allow you to summon Torrent? I can't see why his arena would be so massive, otherwise. That, or he was supposed to be huge, himself. Given the size of the door, I could see that as well.

Man, Radahn is a pain in the ass. I didn't actually know what those summoning messages did the first time, and I managed to get him down to 2/3 health. That was the lowest I managed, until my third or fourth try, when I realized that was how you summoned aid, and I got him back down to 2/3 again. The Godskin Apostle is a pain, too. Definitely need more strength/dexterity and/or a better Tank spirit. Probably should have realized that I wasn't ready for the bosses yet (Edit: Other than Commander O'Neil. His battle is super-easy to cheese, given there's no fog wall and you can ride your horse.), given that the mobs in Caelid still give me problems.

Fortunately, I finally found my way to Altus Plateau, and that area seems a lot easier. Should be a good place to do a bit of grinding.

Our powers draw upon the powers embedded in glintstone, but what is the nature of such power? Glintstone is the amber of the cosmos, golden amber contains the remnants of ancient life and houses its vitality, while Glintstone contains residual life. And thus, the vitality of the stars. It should not be forgotten that glintstone sorcery is the study of the stars and the life therin.
Sounds a lot like runes, right? I think that the Erdtree is a kind of filter, gathering and purifying/transforming natural Glintstone into Runes, and the (other) eldritch abomination gods wanted to take those runes for themselves. But hey, that's just a theory. A game theory. Thanks for reading.

I thought people were exaggerating about Barricade Shield, but with the Manor Tower Shield I just facetank through boss encounters, enjoying a hearty laugh.
The Spiked Palisade Shield and Shield Crash is pretty nasty. Just have to be careful around places you can fall off of but that adds to the fun.

That fight was an absolute embarrassment for me, took me almost 10 minutes of running around like a headless chicken to notice the glowing maidens. And then I vaporized the 2nd phase in approximately 15 seconds.

Lorewise Rennala is the most 'sane' Shardbearer and not a demi god. Just a powerful sorceress betrayed by her husband/lover Radagon.

You don't actually 'fight' Rennala...The dark shroud stuff is Ranni's spell

"Seemingly unbeknownst to Rennala, her daughter had in fact survived the Night of Black Knives, and kept a watchful eye on her mother. When a Tarnished champion fought their way into the Grand Library to claim Rennala's rune, the befuddled Carian Queen made a fruitless attempt to ward them off. With her mother in danger, an apparition conjured by Ranni of her mother in her prime appeared to challenge the Tarnished. When this apparition too was defeated, the Tarnished champion was able to claim Rennala's Great Rune, but left her unharmed, still tending to her grim art and even offering the Tarnished themselves the opportunity to be reborn."

Wow, the Greatshield soldiers are deceptively powerful. Assuming a physical opponent - and even if not, the odds are still favourable - they just take everything thrown at them, confuse the hell out of the enemy due to being five potential targets, and do solid damage when pelting with their bombs. Even the stagger value of their shield bonks is nothing to sneeze out.

I felt sorry for Rennala.

Took a second stab at Rykhard and there's an item right by the entrance... That fight was not fair at all, poor Rykhard. Does the spear work on any dragons or (preferably) those fucking magma wyrms? And I didn't do any of the assassinations or other quests in Volcano Manor, did I miss out on anything good?

The spear unfortunately only works for Rykard, but it's a pretty solid weapon on its own outside of that.

And to my memory, the assassination quests give you some stupid good gear, and the Rya quest just unlocks the game's hard mode (sort of), so unfortunately you would have missed a fair bit.

So this popped up on Steam, possible incoming DLC? Just odd they ask this question when the Armor kind of answers it...

So i finally beat the game

Picked perfect order, goldenmask redeemed :feels:

I wasnt sure how much replayability it would have but i decided i wanted to try being a spearguy, grabbed vykes early and its a lot of fun having a second way to stagger using madness. Plus im not using ranged unless absolutely necessary this time, i cheesed too much shit spamming blade of death first time through
