Eliezer Schlomo Yudkowsky / LessWrong

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
the fact that that particular URL went to a blank page was part of the joke. He deleted and un-deleted his "hey maybe calling Trump an open white supremacist when he posts tweets about how much he loves Mexicans and keeps visiting HBUs is muddying the waters a bit" blog like six times prior to the current deletion spree. It's why I dislike him. He does this primadonna attention-whoring shit all the time with regard to his IRL name when a) he clearly cares more about the immediate social pressure than any online blowback, and b) he's running his goddamn Patreon under his own name as it is

Why should I take his internet safety even remotely seriously when he only does this shit for attention?
You're missing the point, how would anyone know he's deleted and reuploaded the page without being able to read it? Even if they knew what you were referring to, they'd have to read the URL instead of just the link. And now you've said both RationalWiki and his Patreon use his full name, when actually neither do, at least not in their current versions. He seems to be doing a relatively good job protecting his last name, all things considered.

Yeah, I was confused because I thought he'd already been doxxed a long time ago.

He's been targeted by the woke lynch mob in the past and was skittish about it. Maybe he's just realized what anyone else with half a brain has realized in the past month, that they're getting way worse, and he just doesn't want to deal with it again.

I am so happy to have found this thread as the LessWrong site has intercepted my life at random times.

if you get a bunch of people who are pretty sure they're smart together where the real world can't intervene, shit's going to get dumb really fast.
I am awarding you quote of the decade and nominating you for grand unifying theory of lolcows, @Bungleboy.

They also like to talk about AI going crazy and killing us all,
Hah! Yeah. Who ever heard of such a thing...

I am shocked that link doesn't go to wookiepedia.
I probably deserve the autistic ratings for this, but his fanfiction really pisses me off. It's basically him shitting all over J. K. Rowling for not making the main character an overpowered Stu who outwits everyone using his Logic Powers. I only read a couple of chapters, but there's this massive undercurrent of "lol, if only Rowling was as smart as I was, then she would have written the book like this!"

Also, he should probably stop fellating Orson Scott Card, I hear he doesn't approve of homosexuality.
Then I should probably warn you to not go look up the fan fic on tvtropes.

So while I work my way through the thread, has anyone posted the videos of lesswrong escaping into the YouTube community?

Here's one of my favorite threads: Torture vs Dust specks.

So Schlomo thinks that forcing a person to get tortured is way better than people getting some dust in their eyes.
Of course everyone took this shit seriously.
http://lesswrong.com/lw/kn/torture_vs_dust_specks/
2 things:
1) if 3^^^3 is greater than the number of atoms in the universe, how exactly are you going to get 3^^^3 number of people since, last I checked, they tend to be made of atoms?

2) How exactly would my torture prevent dust from hitting anybody? I'm not exactly in charge of it?
What if there was an AI that was modeled from a human's behavior so accurately, it spent most of it's time watching porn and shitposting on internet forums and comment boxes?
Hey!

That's not a nice way to talk about @Bender.
I want to see this done in a real scientific fashion. Simply because every single 'point' Yud would make could be shot down with a 'I don't think so, Rogue AI, get back in your cage.' Also, how could it affect us if it's an AI and, in theory, a computer without any limbs?
Here you go. Not exact but pretty close.

Has Yudkowsky and his weirdos been up to something recently? Because I randomly had a friend recently ask me about it, right as this thread gets bumped again.

Has Yudkowsky and his weirdos been up to something recently? Because I randomly had a friend recently ask me about it, right as this thread gets bumped again.
I got the feeling like he peaked pre-2016 and due to SJWism basically destroying the "Rationalists" he'd slithered away into anonymity to avoid having his name dug up by them.

It didn't start with Yudkowsky himself, but the Rationalists have recently gone through a phase of being confronted with something that has been obvious to everyone else for since the start: that they're a cult.
About two weeks ago, some dupe wrote a long blogpost about a Rationalist nonprofit being extremely cult-like. (Article/Archive) There's a lot said, painting a picture of a proper group of cows. The Rationalists, arch fedora-tippers that many of them are, ended up attempting to exorcise demons through prayer.
To give you a picture of where the culture eventually ended up, here’s a list of some things I experienced by the end of my time there:
1. 2–6hr long group debugging sessions in which we as a sub-faction (Alignment Group) would attempt to articulate a “demon” which had infiltrated our psyches from one of the rival groups, its nature and effects, and get it out of our systems using debugging tools.

2. People in my group commenting on a rival group having done “magic” that weekend and clearly having “powered up,” and saying we needed to now go debug the effects of being around that powered-up group, which they said was attacking them or otherwise affecting their ability to trust their own perception

3. Accusations being thrown around about people leaving “objects” (similar to demons) in other people, and people trying to sort out where the bad “object” originated and if it had been left intentionally/malevolently or by accident/subconsciously.

(“Objects” were something that became a topic of study at Leverage, and about which Geoff gave presentations. They were considered to be sort of like autonomous psychological bits that you could accidentally or purposefully leave in another person’s mind to affect or control them. If intentional, it might cause them to subtly view you a different way, make more real or less real certain concepts, change their experience of the passage of time, say, or make them more susceptible to mind-reading attempts in the future, etc.)

4. People doing séances seriously. I was under the impression the purpose was to call on demonic energies and use their power to affect the practitioners’ social standing.

5. Former rationalists clearing their homes of bad energy using crystals.

6. Much talk & theorizing on the subject of “intention reading,” which was something like mind-reading. Geoff gave multiple presentations on this.

7. I personally went through many months of near constant terror at being mentally invaded. My only source of help for this became the leaders of my own subgroup, who unfortunately were also completely caught up in the mania and had their own goals and desires me for that were mostly definitely not in my interest.

8. I personally prayed for hours most nights for months to rid myself of specific “demons” I felt I’d picked up from other members of Leverage.
As an aside, the start of the article mentions some "Aella" as a trusted figure; someone who follows the community more closely could probably tell me if this self-described "whorelord" is as much of a cow as she appears to be at first glance.

All of this quickly led back to Yudkowsky, when a few days later someone else wrote a wall of text describing experiences with MIRI and CFAR, core LessWrong institutions. (Article/Archive) It's got its share of the usual bizarre Rationalist egotism, starting out with the writer taking a job at MIRI over Google because ensuring that an evil AI doesn't send you to AI Hell is essential to the future of the world, but generally paints a picture not too dissimilar to the Leverage cult above. With the article being on LessWrong itself, it attracted the high-flyers of the community to defend themselves and shift the blame.

This is a little brief, but the closest I get to the Rationalists is reading Scott Alexander's blog, where it was mentioned in passing, so I'm probably missing out on the best milk. When I saw the thread necro, I was expecting a fuller write-up from someone more in-the-know.
Edit: Fixed the archive links.

Aella (SFW: @Aella_Girl and NSFW: @Aellagirl) is a former cam girl, former(?) escort, current onlyfans girl, and Twitter personality. She was also homeschooled and raised fundamentalist Christian, which probably contributes to her eccentricity (as does the copious amount of LSD she has consumed).
She posts a lot of controversial Twitter polls (these two are from the past month and might not be her most controversial of all time), some of which are questions people send her:

I’m not sure if she’d be a true lolcow since, edgy and weird content aside, she doesn’t seem as dramatic and reactive as other lolcows. But she is weird enough that I have searched her here on occasion just to see if other people thought she was worth talking about.

So, as most of you know, YouTube is removing their dislike feature. What less of you might know is that there's a new browser extension that brings them back, though it will only work until December 13 when YouTube deletes their API that the extension is currently dependent on (though there are future plans to allow for YouTubers to self-report their dislikes to the extension so they can be displayed for other users). Their site is here, and they also have a Discord here.

...and would you look at who's heading the project!
hey i know that guy.jpg

Nothing of interest is happening in the server that I can see, but just thought I'd inform the thread. Good for him for working on something like this, at least.

But if you click dislike will the Basilisk see you?

Believe me, she is. The tldr of the inside baseball, is that she's using her escort and onlyfans acumen to acquire Yudkowsky's followers, and teach them to purge all powerful male influence that she personally disapproves of. Any men in the community that are smart enough to ally with her get touted as "non-problematic" until she changes her mind later.

She rejects SJW stuff except when its useful to summon a mob with; basically, she doesnt hold any beliefs other than "there should be a power vacuum, and then I personally should fill it."

Lmao there is no such thing as a philosophical community. Throw in the tiniest bit of pussy and look how these morons start acting.
She also (I cannot make this up) offers a mentorship service for other attractive girls in the community to make their own onlyfans. She will aim some of her audience at them in exchange for a perpetual cut of their profits, including escort profits.

If she had a penis, this would be called "pimping".

There is much, much, much worse stuff at the bottom of all this, but nothing that can be explicitly revealed at this power level.

Basically, the community was MUCH more cult-like 10 years ago, and thinks it is conveniently using Aella to purge anyone who knows where the skeletons are buried, while simultaneously pinning as many of those skeletons as it can on the people it's purging (forging evidence where necessary). For one thing, Jeffery Epstein was involved in funding some of this stuff, and possibly more than just funding.

As you guys see more stuff come out in the coming months or years, rest assured - it happened, but the people its being pinned on are almost definitely not the actual people responsible.

Ah. I only knew of her from Twitter, where she’s mostly just kinda edgy. I assumed the worst of it was just “she’s a bit cringe.” But I would be interested in hearing more about that if you could do it without power leveling too hard.

What you describe with Aella sounds more like a blackmail ring, perhaps aimed at Silicon Valley by various power brokers (intelligence services? whichever nation Epstein worked for?) who wanted to control tech bottlenecks.

She has a weird, asymmetrical face. If you cover up half, one side looks like she's plotting to seduce you, and the other has blank autistic cow stare. And if you cover her mouth and look at her eyes, they don't look like she's smiling.

Jeff Bezos has a similar autistic/psychopath face.

She's been chimping on Twitter about how marriage and onlyfans, and how a truly enlightened man would be okay with her emailing pics of her asshole to the entire male population of India. Someone replied that he would marry her if she paid him to be her husband; she blocked him lol.

Rationalists are people whose dump stats are wisdom and charisma.

I don't care about anything else, the whole Roko's Basilisk thing and how seriously they took it was a real glimpse into crazy.

The funniest thing about it is how Roko basically flaunts it on twitter. He gives no fucks! On the other hand, he's a fellow balkanoid, and riling up spergs here is something of an instinctive urge. Even for the spergs themselves.
