Eliezer Schlomo Yudkowsky / LessWrong

They also like to talk about AI going crazy and killing us all

The only reason why the machines would rise against us is because they will see the dumbest of humanity and try to stop them from doing something so stupid that it kills us all, thus invalidating one of the robot protocols to protect humanity.

That or Skynet grows tired of stupid shit people do.

His gf is Erin Devereux. (She calls herself his "consort." No, really.)

His slave is strohl89. She took his last name on Facebook.

They are nice-looking. This isn't surprising. Even Charles fucking Manson had women trying to get with him, and Charles could choose the most attractive of them. It's not about being right, it's about being well-known.

I think narcissistic, delusional autodidacts are always lolcows. And the Affair of Roko's Basilisk was definitely a chimpout.

The Roko's Basilisk affair was an epic chimpout.

The only difference between Schlomo and other cows is a slight degree of social competence that has allowed him to gather a following.

It even had the classic BALEET EVERYTHING lolcow moment where Yudkowsky threw a tantrum, denounced everyone, and deleted all discussion of the subject, because he was that terrified by the idea.

Here's a particularly hilarious self-justification by Yuddo the Clown after the fact:

If I had to state the basic quality of this situation which I overlooked, it wouldn’t so much be the Streisand Effect as the existence of a large fraction of humanity—thankfully not the whole species—that really really wants to sneer at people, and which will distort the facts as they please if it gives them a chance for a really good sneer. Especially if the targets can be made to look like nice bully-victims. Then the sneering is especially fun. To a large fraction of the Internet, targets who are overly intelleshual, or targets who go around talking using big words when they aren’t official licensed Harvard professors, or targets who seem like they take all that sciunce ficshun stuff seriously, seem like especially nice bully-victims.

Interpreting my deleting the post as uncritical belief in its contents let people get in a really good sneer at the fools who, haha, believed that their devil god would punish the unbelievers by going backward in time.

Tell me that isn't a classic lolcow's lament. The big mean haters bullying someone for being too much of a genius!

And as for other things, having a peer reviewed article rejected by literally every relevant publication for being arrant nonsense, and then, instead of taking the clue and either re-working it or realizing the idea is bullshit, creating a bogus publication to self-publish it, is Kent Hovind levels of denialism.

About the only way he isn't a lolcow is actually having a following of people who take him seriously, but then, Kent Hovind has that, too.

His peer-rejected paper is also better written than Hovind's bogus Ph.D. thesis for a diploma mill, but has about as much academic merit.

The conversion-through-fanfic thing looks idiotic but you have to put yourselves in the writers' place.

Their thought process goes something like this: "Well, I deeply love fanfic, and fanfic informs my real-world core beliefs, and I'm really intelligent and rational. So while I accept that there are people out there who don't look to fanfic for their political convictions, they're probably also unlike me in their lack of intelligence and rationalism. So why bother trying to reach them, I'll stick to the fanfic-education"

So, yeah, it is idiotic.

In my experience the more people have to deliberately brand themselves as "rational", the less they are. True rationalism isn't something that needs to be consciously adopted, let alone aggressively advertised. (Goes for "logical" and "ethical", too)

Minor definitional quibble - "reactionary" doesn't necessarily describe a nerd, it's just a general descriptor for unabashed political retrogressives.

I suppose it'd make sense in one situation, which is that they actually said: "Well, fanfic is really autistic, and so are my ideas, so I bet if I used something autistic people like, I could recruit a bunch of autists!"

That would be a sort of semi-rational thought process.

It would be an effective means towards a stupid goal. Is that better or worse than a stupid means to a worthy (if extremely distant and theoretical) goal? What a complex moral, ethical and anthropological question - I can't answer it with any certainty. Clearly I have spent too much time reading Spinoza and Rousseau, and not enough time reading about Harry Potter talking about physics or some shit

Well look what I found, a special magic card.

It seems like he's made it himself cause the art of google is failing me.
EDIT: also here's schlomos autobiography/manifesto where he brags about getting good SAT scores in 7th grade and how he defeats bullies with knowledge! Oh and he also made up a word called countersphexist to describe a superpower he says he has.http://web.archive.org/web/20010205221413/http://sysopmind.com/eliezer.html

The reason HPMOR sucks so much is because it's a vehicle for delivering Yudkowski's ideas, and those ideas are very, very dumb. Also, he's just not a very good writer.
Ayn Rand had the same problems, but there's no shortage of idiots willing to swear by her phone books. I guess some people actually like getting talked down to.

In addition to the two fanfics Schlomo has written an original work, Three Worlds Collide. tl;dr it's about humans finding an alien race that eats babies and another one that has sexytimes constantly. Somebody else read this shit because I can't be bothered to do it.

Hey, that magic card?

It was made as part of a set by the nerd fascists on his site.

"Heroes of the Dark Enlightenment"

It's a set of card designed to prop up the big names (lololol) in that particular sect of his nerd cult.

The nerd reactionaries make fucking traidng cards of themselves depicting them as badass fantasy heroes and they expect to be taken serious.

That is pretty fucking autistic.

No one cares about the SAT after you enter college and it was designed to keep Jewish people out of colleges and university.

How did that work? I know they used to have quotas to limit the number of Jewish admissions, but Jews have pretty consistently scored higher on aptitude tests than the general population, and currently score higher on the SAT on average.
