Re- Chapter 8

My first thought on the supposed actor threatening to rape her to prove she isn’t a lesbian is that she’s either lying or greatly exaggerating. It’s giving “I'm going to fucking gay bash you, faggot!” vibes. Sure she was still a cute chick back in 2014, but why would this famous actor who could probably get any fame fucker he wanted care? My second thought was well if it did happen, maybe it was Leonardo DiCaprio. He seems like a narcissistic pervert. Lol.

If you had told me ten years ago that SOME women become lesbians because they were scared of men I would have scoffed and called you homophobic. Now I believe it 100%. Seems most have a similar story to Ellen's of being sexually harassed/violated by a man and then groomed by an older lesbian.

Her indignation that someone told her to shut up about being gay already, speaks to one of my main frustrations with the LGB moment. Up until gay marriage was won, the gay rights movement presented being gay as something that was trivial and no big deal ("we're just like you!) . Well, straight people don't make being straight their whole identity, force others to celebrate it, or use it to get attention. Once the LGB got what they wanted though, they turned around and did exactly that. Then when straight people got annoyed and told them to settle down, they called us bigots and the deeply histrionic ones trooned/NB'd out to get the attention they were no longer getting by simply being gay. But I'm not supposed to wonder if maybe they weren't just like us after all, though.

Also, her agent was just trying to be real with her. If she made being gay her whole schtick, she would be typecasted and her options as an already aging actress would be limited. It's not a homophobic thing -- it's a numbers thing. There are more straight people than gay people, and even among gays lesbians are the minority. You can cry about it all you want, but you can't make straight people go see your gay shit. Just ask Billy Eichner. Ellen just looks at everything through the lens of her victimhood and narcissism.

So some drunk guy at a party was making an ass of himself, audibly joking like "you're not GAY. I'll lick your ASSHOLE." To which any actual man would reply: "oh yeah? You think about licking my asshole often, faggot?" or something like that. Or just tell him to fuck off! That's why nobody at the party did anything, because he was just being an obnoxious clown. Imagine DiCaprio or Brad Pitt talking like that. I'm not defending the guy, I wouldn't invite him to my house again if he treated a guest that way, but get a grip.

I know she probably didn't have the skills to speak up or flip someone shit because she had been traumatized etc, but that doesn't make the other party objectively evil! She acts like someone was seriously literally threatening to rape her, and is putting it in a book like a big life event. It makes me take her even less seriously and I didn't think it was possible

Every excerpt of this book is so depressing to me. Impossible to know how much of this exaggerated/misremembered, but if even half of this actually happened the way she tells it, then so many adults failed her growing up. I can guffaw over the tiny wrinkly child with fakest-looking-abs-ever aesthetic she's got going on right now, but when I was a kid, I remember thinking she was cute in Juno. She could've been a totally normal mid-30s woman with a giant ass forehead right now, but instead she's focusing on sabotaging her looks to eliminate anything that remains of that preyed upon kid.

I actually also thought about Leonardo DiCaprio, because they worked together on Inception in 2010 so they would be acquaintances from that. But the gossip about him is that he is secretly gay, based on him being long term housemates with Lukas Haas, which is what Cary Grant did with the guy he privately called his husband. Also, Neil Patrick Harris used to claim that when he first got to hollywood he was offered the number for the same bearding service that DiCaprio uses. I could still see it though, even in a weird self-hating way, which he supposedly is.

She does say acquaintance rather than someone she worked with, she also worked with world famous actors on X-Men. Imagine if it was Ian McKellen trying to mark his territory by freaking her out. "You're not gay, I know gay when I see it! I'll lick your arsehole!"

Gandalf! no!!! :'(

I know ben affleck is an alcoholic and is notorious for drunkenly hitting on waitresses etc, but it could really be anyone.

I also don't understand why she just wandered around the party instead of leaving. Leaving the party is the obvious solution.

It's very clear just by looking at her that something happened to this woman. Even in her pre-troon days, she looked like death. A lot of that is due to her obvious eating disorder/vegan diet, but she just reeks of unresolved trauma.

But the gossip about him is that he is secretly gay,
Could be, or this could be another example of the internet's weird obsession with making celebrities gay with no evidence (re- Taylor Swift/Karlie Kloss or Harry Styles/Louis Tomlinson).

Tbf, she did after she'd spent some time calming down in the bathroom. I actually do feel bad for her - I think that most people in Hollywood wouldn't help if he had decided to escalate things, like what supposedly happened with Russell Brand - and I can sort of see wandering around the party so you get as many people's eyeballs on you as possible in that situation. I think him being an internationally famous actor massively ups the threat level of what he was saying / doing by default.

Ben Affleck is a known drunk, has a history of sexually harrassing women at industry parties when drunk / possibly sexual assault, at the time was married to Jennifer Garner who was Ellen's co-star in Juno, so would be acquainted with her that way, and I think both he and Matt Damon have caught flack for homophobia before (Matt recently about no longer saying the word faggot, it took him too long to learn not to say it so people got mad.) I would say Jennifer Garner & Ellen have the big-eyed brunette similarity in appearance too. So it would make a lot of sense for it to be him.

Honestly the most infuriating thing about this whole chapter is her not having the balls, both literally and metaphorically, to name and shame the actor who supposedly said all the homophobic shtick to her at the party.

Motherfucker by that point was already set for life from a financial standpoint and she was a supposed feminist and lesbian icon. She could have spoken the guy's name then and now and by doing so she could have protected other people from the same abuse. Fucking name and shame these people if they truly did what she said they did.

But instead no, god forbid she for once faced and told the truth. Better wait 10+ years to vaguely allude to someone somewhere at some party, implying she was somehow a victim of some sort of abuse, in a biography read by the farms, her grandma and two qweer study study majors, right?

Fuck me I can't stand these ball-less cunts. Either name, shame and face up to the consequences or shut the fuck up and ruin your life even further by overdosing on T for all I care. 🎩

Also I have read better fanfiction on Archive of Our Own. Utterly embarrassing.

She probably paraphrased a lot. Situations like this do happen, but they're usually long and involve a lot of context which is hard to remember, so people end up having to summarize to get to the core of the feelings being expressed.

Rape and sexual assault is not about sexual pleasure, beauty or anything else. It's about power and torture. I know this isnt't the case, as much as people like to shit on her, Page was in no way an ugly woman, but powerful men tend to rape "ugly" women because there's the added humiliation of "no one will ever believe you because im hot and powerful and you're beneath me."
because he was just being an obnoxious clown.
Obnoxious clowns can be fucking terrifying when you're 1.5m and fragile. Especially when everyone around you is tacitly condoning this behavior by not doing anything.

Rape and sexual assault is not about sexual pleasure
Sometimes it is. Sometimes retarded men think they deserve to get off and don't care if the woman they use to do so says no. Maybe it's not about sex when Ben Affleck does it, but it sure is when Ken Nobody from Tiny Dirt Road Village who makes $1 a day, can't read, and knows no women other than his mother does it.
Also, is the fact that men don't care what's attached to a vagina really evidence that "rape isn't about sex"??

Oh, spare me. It's like I have to pull out my "I was totally was victimized too, now do I have a pass to dunk on her bullshit?" card. Gross. Half the people in this thread talk about this book as if we are being magically transported into Ellen's totally real and true experience that happened yesterday exactly as she described it. Not something she's had years to reflect on and is now choosing to recount in a very specific way.

I haven't read a single page of the book. I read what you said and disagreed with it. Your victim status means nothing to me.

I get what you're saying, but I still see your examples as being related to power and inflicting distress. If it was just about sexual gratification, they could hire a prostitute, they're easily accessible. The "Also, is the fact that men don't care what's attached to a vagina really evidence that "rape isn't about sex"?" part is exactly what points to it being about torturing some"thing", like when people hurt animals.

Even if she wanted to I guarantee whoever her publisher was wouldn't have allowed it, for legal reasons.
