The reason birth rates are so low in the "developed world" is that when a country reaches a certain level of industrialized productivity people become detached from their social/family lives and are forced to dedicate their entire existence to slaving away and trying to be the best drone they can be to narrowly afford the luxuries and status they desire. You don't have time or desire for kids when resources and status are so scarce you have to dedicate almost your entire waking existence to chasing them past your teenage years.

Asian parents are well known for going *too far*, pushing their kids into a life of misery and isolation for the sake of numbers or letters. It's not a standard to strive towards, it's a perversion of the idea of success and the children of those parents absolutely hate it.

And a big thing he noticed is just how obsessed they are with "studying hard" and becoming doctors, lawyers or any other well paying jobs. You have rural peasants who never touched a math textbook in their lives forcing their kids to study math hard saar yes saar integrate the function saar, science, law or medicine. Seemingly with no planning for the future other than become lawyer and make money

A part of me admires the work ethic but it's a shame they aren't using it to fix up their own country and instead are spilling overseas.
