I was thinking about it and if starlink becomes ubiquitous and smartphones become advanced enough and they can use starlink instead of 5G or whatever then I guess it's possible that starlink could seriously steal significant numbers of customers from normal phone companies at some point.

Basically: Musk/starlink could become extremely fucking rich. I haven't looked into the figures but you're talking about possibly poaching customers from Comcast, Vodafone and some major players if that becomes technically possible.

I'm not sure if that would work out technically in a year or two but it's definitely plausible to see happen within 5-10 years.

They're also saying that tweeter/X's payment network will launch this year - I'm not sure how that will pan out but will be interesting to see. I think also "X TV" was mentioned.

(I know this type of stuff isn't particularly typical "lolcow" discussion but I mention it to speculate on what his wealth/power may be in 5-10 years time).

Depends on the political impact.

It's not really a good look for "making America great again" when a prominent figure is flat-out insulting the country's citizens and stating his open desire to replace them with cheap Third World labor solely to undercut wages. Musk has no patriotism or sense of loyalty to the United States whatsoever and it's blatantly obvious.

Musk has made a fuckwit of himself and appears to have revealed a real deadshit attitude to ordinary American citizens.

However, I don't rule out him taking steps to rehabilitate his image, if it dawns on him how much he has shot himself in the foot.

He could come out and say that he was only advocating for the 0.001% of people who are genuine geniuses and that he should have been clearer about this and then say that H1B's are a complete mess and need to be shut down completely.

Sadly, despite the above possibility, with Trump coming out in favour of H1B's, it looks like both of them are going down a road that has great potential to fuck themselves up and derail their own agendas.
