I've read the book "Ego is the enemy" yesterday, and when I got to the part about Howard Hughes, I think comparing him to Musk seems pretty on point, I think I saw it in this thread before.

That's an insult. Howard Hughes at least was an actual brilliant engineer and flew his own planes.
Musk couldn't build a LEGO car on his own and I doubt he'll ever dare to even touch any of his firework rockets.

But in the space of a month right around the holidays, two seemingly small incidents happened which changed my opinion of him for good: 1) around Christmastime, when he exploded with rage seemingly out of nowhere to defend his beloved H1B jeet slaves and attack American workers, and then 2) a few weeks later when he was exposed as having faked being a world-class video game player.

The first incident revealed he was a hate-filled asshole, and the second incident exposed him as a fraud. An asshole and a fraud, not a good combination for anyone, let alone the richest and supposedly most genius person in the world.

It's been a steady self-destruction ever since. I think Elon knows he can't ever win back the support he once had, and so he's hitting the drugs harder than ever. Watch for his IVF babymaking to increase exponentially as well.

I share your sentiment. I remember seeing some interview with Elon in 2014 when he was warning that AI will become dangerous (as in sentient people enslaver), and I thought to myself that he clearly doesn't understand much about AI or human brain.
But, yeah, when he bought Twitter cesspool it seemed positive. Then exactly the same two moments you described made me scrutinize him as much as possible, and I would even say that if they didn't happen, I would think there is some validity to his "government slashing", but now I think he is just a lame actor, who is convincing only to people with a room temperature IQ.
