She believes it should be illegal to fly the American flag or have it anywhere outside of the border of Canada, and even then, it should just be at places to show that you're in America and not Canada now. It makes her physically angry when she sees it on buildings or on equipment and she fantasizes about making "one of those Russian beers that explode" and destroying them. She hates people who wear the American flag. They're all Cishet white male KKK nazis. (Oh, she thinks the KKK and Nazis are the same thing and said that Hitler was one of their important people. "An Imperial Wizard? Grand Dragon?" I asked. "No, I mean the KKK clan," she answered.) She wishes that she could lynch them. Thinking about destroying the flag excites her. No, I did not ask if she meant sexually. I asked what about other flags? She said it was okay to fly them because it's a symbol of pride in their culture. What about flying the Canadian flag in the middle of Canada away from the border? "That's okay," she answered. I gave up.
Back in Highschool, her teacher told her that it was indoctrination to stand for the Pledge. "Like that Kool-aid thing," she said. "It was flavor-aid," I said, "They couldn't afford kool-aid." She blinked, said "Same, capitalism sucks," and continued. No, I don't think she understood. Because she couldn't be arrested for it, she started kneeling during the Pledge. Everyone was shocked because she was the good girl in school with the best grades in class. I doubt this. But because of her, everyone started doing it, teachers too, until everyone just ignored it when they played the Pledge over the intercom. When she saw Kaepernick do it years later, she was annoyed that he got attention for it because he was a man, and not her.
Most of my clothes feature the American flag, camo patterns, etc. I came in to pick up my paycheck on my day off. She snorted and said "Nice Nazi gear," and muttered about how all men were the same.
America should be nuked.
