Epic! 8-bitguy uses 1 weird trick to detroy rare prototypes!

Dave takes a break while Retrobriting the case of a rare VIC-20 to dunk on the europoors and their comically-tame "heat wave."

He then spray-paints the case because he just gives no fucks.
I find it funny that the comments about the Texas snow drift, really stuck in his head. Not him blowing up a PSU in a rare prototype. For that he closed the comments and never mentioned it.
It derailed the whole video, for a passive aggressive dig at who gives a fuck nobody's in his comment section.
Also that egg part. :story: Fuck sake, i like ya Dave, but fuck me that was cringe. You could add too dumb to fry an egg in to the threads title.

David should've kept that salt saved up for the next snow drift instead of spilling it all over that video. That mid-video egg stunt to own the haters seems like a lolcow move to me.

Well that and his little decision-making diagram:

Yeah, that's even more cowish than the egg stunt. I know YouTubers cop a lot of shit in the comments section and David thought he was being funny, but this just comes across as the work of someone who has too many anons living rent-free in his head.

Apparently, someone broke into Computer Reset and stole a few grand worth of retro junk about a week after LGR's video on it. Seems like showing off almost the whole layout of building on camera wasn't the brightest idea.

Were they ever found? People got really on their high horse about this even though the machines getting stolen likely means someone ultimately gets to play with them for once.

100% chance it was an inside job.

Makes me low-key crazy to think all those new-in-box systems sitting there rotting away for decades only to have a bunch of gatekeepers swoop in and take control with their soup nazi rules.

The prototype video got him jumpy i would bet. He is seeing lynch mobs everywhere. Despite coming out of that video, without any real damage to his youtube subs or reputation. Some of the retro tech youtubers have done mentions or had him appear in the video since that video was uploaded. But i think he is stuck in go to war mode. I would bet he is monitoring his comment section closely now. Ready to sperg out in his next video. He will start losing subs once his content is just him responding to comment trolls in a totally """""""""snarky"""""""" way.
I don't know why a man who is as old as him, should not remember the old internet and its unwritten rules about feeding trolls. It is not a thing you usually see from the older generation nerds.
If he is going to be silly and start doing this bullshit, i am unsubbing. I don't want to watch a guy with such a chill channel about cleaning retro shit and talking about their history, Go loony over youtube comments. Might hate watch through freetube for the laughs.

Yea, i think that also. They were stripmining the place anyway. They just did not want the smaller guys butting in and taking shit. They will ebay most of it in a few years and make change on it. They just noticed that too many unknown faces started turning up to take shit from the place.

I'm annoyed if those PS/2 systems were really going to real museums but if they were going to some youtuber's glass background cabinet....

That whole saga bugged more than I should probably admit. I started off adminning a Model 85 in college and my first 'real job' was working with a Microchannel-based RS/6000, so I love me some PS/2 era IBM. It was cool seeing people fine a model I'd only ever vaguely heard of... Then it became a fagfest.

What's the problem with spray-painting the case? Besides the purists throwing a tantrum
It can work but it can just as easily look like ass unless you use the right paints. It can also fuck with the texture of the case.

I have no idea how you'd get the strip of lines (and vents, IIRC? I should go down and look at my breadbox 64) at the logo/power light strip of a VIC-20/C-64 breadbox to take paint right, without bridging, without a ton of work.

Putting in the prep work and having at least some clue about what you're doing also helps. If you don't know what you're doing, or if you want to get it right the first time, bring in professional help to do the job. RMC sent a few BBC Micros to a car body shop a couple of years for repainting and they turned out great.

Absolutely, you can get it real good. But without good technique you're not going to get good results, and it's even harder if you rattlecan it.

speaking of possible paint disasters
the sides of my thinkpad have had a thin strip of where the metal meets plastic wear away and I've been thinking about spray painting it with black matte krylon spray paint. i've used it before and it produces a bumpy texture if not sprayed quickly. but idk if it will actually look better than paint rubbing off to exposed metal or be as durable. when I tried it on smooth plastic I didn't sand down it predictably peeled away easily.

Also, another thing to consider is that most paints don't take well to oils the average human excretes, so if it's a keyboard computer you're in finger- and hand-resting contact with, it'll soon look like arse again.

Know that rubberized coating some peripherals like mice, chinese gadgets etc. have? You can actually buy that in a spray can and I found it to be perfect for mice buttons etc. that have become shiny and unpleasant to the touch. The best thing is, if it gets eventually worn down or you applied it somewhat poorly you can just peel it off and reapply. It's sold as many different brand names but the one I use is plasti dip. Even comes in various colors.

It's also very robust, people use it for car parts.
