The year is 2023 and 8bitguy still looks like a soft shell turtle

I'm not sure why he's subsidizing the tranny. In one of his earlier vids, he mentioned that his boyfriend (who I assume is now the tranny) got a job by faxing their resume out, so I assume at one point they were employable. Part of me wonders now if he's actually into the tranny at all or if he's desperately trying to make it work after the person who used to be his boyfriend trooned out.CRD is carrying his parents and the tranny. He said it was killing him.
I wonder if he'll lose the depression weight and the dead weight now that he no longer has to. (Probably not)
I carry my mom because she is financially irresponsible. If not for my dad's union pension I'd probably be dead. I can't imagine subsidizing a fat load of shit on top of that, and still making the time to fuck around with old netbooks.
I don't really care about his strategy series but PETSCII Robots is definitely a game that made me want to play it from the previews, even if I haven't actually bought a copy.
Shit, I think you can even play the X16 version for free on the site.
Thanks for the link, I was curious too but didn't want to buy a copy.He mentions in the video that there are shareware versions of PETSCII Robots available here.
Aw ya ninja'd me.David looks old, shows off a place in DFW building the first 100 Commander X16s, addresses da haters, and talks about the future of the product.
NABU developer Leo Binkowski has a YouTube channel where he does through all his NABU equipment and software.Last year they were going for $60 a piece, now they're up to $100 each as stocks have almost run out.
It's great how some of the OG NABU people are still doing stuff. DJ Sures is another one. His Dad and a couple of his relatives worked at NABU, and just like Leo he kept doing NABU stuff even before the NABU was rediscovered by the internet. He made the NABU Internet Adapter, which emulates the original NABU Network via a USB to RS-422 adapter.NABU developer Leo Binkowski has a YouTube channel where he does through all his NABU equipment and software.
Leo actually ported and shipped dozens of games and other stuff for the NABU during the 80s.
The smaller retro channels make some of the best content these days. It's 1000 times more interesting than David's toy project or watching LGR talk about a mousepad while doing a Duke Nukem impression.
Really wish people would just YouTube their own retro gear instead of sending it in to big channels like LGR.The smaller retro channels make some of the best content these days.
Reached out a handful of years ago; LGR claims that if he dies there's plans for at least some of it being sent to museums, 8 Bit Guy's might be sold but he "really doesn't want his wife to have to deal with all of that", and Techmoan's will go "right in the skip".Really wish people would just YouTube their own retro gear instead of sending it in to big channels like LGR.
His mailbag videos are so depressing. Lengthy unboxing, a few seconds on camera, maybe a joke about where he's going to store it or how he'll never have time to do a video on it. Then never seen again.
His basement is going to be someone's Computer Reset 30 years from now.
I hope the Murray household has plans for when Patreon and Adsense peter out.8 Bit Guy has made a lot of entertaining and informative videos. At least ones that were fun for my crazy brain anyway. But his content has really dried out the last few years. The Genesis version of his epic game sucksand I am too cheap to buy the other ports without trying them first. He should probably quit now, before Slobwave comes a'knocking....

In Techmoan's defence, he pays for most of his gear himself and he has a British sense of humour. I suspect what'll really happen is that Mrs. Techmoan will put it in an estate sale.Techmoan's will go "right in the skip"
Same. I like David's stuff. I just wish he would slow down with the extra-curricular activities. I'm dumbfounded by how 'surprised' he was that programming a game and then shipping physical copies to people takes up so much time. I'm too young to have been playing around with a C64 in the 80s so I always found his videos to be fun, but there's only so much I can take of his wish fulfillment of game dev/computer mogul.8 Bit Guy has made a lot of entertaining and informative videos. I was able to see a lot of this working irl not too long ago by someone knee-deep in the NABU world and it's genuinely fascinating. Once its newfound niche ironed out all its drama, they've been able to pull off insane things. From what I remember, they've developed a custom system ROM you can swap in that replaces the entire need for the network box, so all you need to get the NABU up and running is a USB to serial adapter and a laptop with wifi. They have a website where you can emulate the network and a ton of the original software. It's great how some of the OG NABU people are still doing stuff. DJ Sures is another one. To be fair, not all retro computer YouTubers are hoarders, but a lot of retro computer guys kinda are. There's a saying in the circles, "it's not hoarding if there's still room to add more".Not all retro YouTubers are hoarders.
I remember one guy said this on 4chan a while back as a joke and it stuck with me cause I genuinely saw him doing this shit. I bet he shows off some random shit he found at a thrift store, yard sale, etc. then marks it up on his vids as ***RARE*** and ***RETRO*** so as to then be able to resell the items on ebay for 3 times the inital amount.Really wish people would just YouTube their own retro gear instead of sending it in to big channels like LGR.

I'm perplexed at him taking on that G-15 project. That's going to take forever even if he dedicated himself to it which he isn't since he keeps finding weird new Centurion stuff and wants to remake his own toobputer.Saw other people mention Usagi electric so I thought I'd throw in my 2-cents as a viewer.
I definitely recommend him to anyone who is interested in older systems or more obscure stuff. Very interesting to a gigautist like me.
It's true that people on his Discord do a lot of the work. A lot of people are working on the Centurion minicomputer project with him, including some people who actually worked for the company at the time.
A lot of the work that needs to be done is complicated, especially stuff for the Centurion that involved a lot of autistic effort in revere engineering software, so I don't really blame him for letting discord niggers take that burden.
It's much better than him being a faggot and gutting the systems to put a raspberry Pi and LED strip in them.
And AFAIK he is an overall beginner, like a lot of his earlier videos on vacuum tubes are not totally accurate and his electronics and computing knowledge is limited.
He also previously tried to make a sell a vacuum tube 555 timer kit. Twice.
It was a complete failure and I haven't heard anything since.
My biggest concern is that he keeps undertaking new large projects.
He still hasn't got all the Centurion stuff working, the Vacuum Tube computer just got redesigned, there's the (at least 1) PDP-11 and now he's somehow acquired a Bendix G-15 (an actual vacuum tube computer from the 50s) on loan?
Seems like he is taking on way more than he really ought to.
Someone also mentioned they saw his cars in the background?
He said at some point how he used to build/repair vintage cars. I assume that's how he finances all this stuff, and also explains why he has that huge CNC mill.
Also he's a Texan who lives on a ranch in the middle of nowhere. So that's pretty cool.
