Epic! 8-bitguy uses 1 weird trick to detroy rare prototypes!

Supports my point that a lot of 'replacement parts' for unobtainable stuff are shuffling deck chairs and people need more net-new designs.
Hey, if someone figures out a general replacement for a flyback transformer, they can have all my money. But yeah, the Dallas chip stuff is more of a "I don't wanna take a dremel to my chip, I want a clean alternative" than actually being an unfixable problem.

A transformer's a transformer, though, even one potted to hell and back because of HV. It's more a matter of the wide variety of voltage needs needing a bunch of models (or an even spendier many-tap transformer) to do it rather than it being lost technology locked up in a filing cabinet somewhere.

I'm aware. I know transformer technology isn't "lost", but exact specs for a given model's flyback often are.

There's been drop-in replacements that take coin cells for a few years now. Little pricy for what they are, but they're a godsend. Biggest problem is a lot of Dallas chips aren't socketed. IBMs and some other name brands usually socket the RTC, but most OEM and cheap mobos from the era are soldered and a massive PITA to desolder. Better than dealing with Varta leaks and Maxell bombs, though.

My point was that most of those drop in replacements themselves use obsolete ICs that are now getting scarce. It's just kicking the can along.

CRT is back
Did this guy rename this channel a while back? I think this was "elhecktronic" or something like that? I thought it was another channel at first, but it's got his old PBX videos on it.

This guy need to learn how to edit and shut the fuck up. His videos could easily be cut down by over 40 minutes of him repeating himself.

Nah bro, they need to be a feature length film about another set of mostly boring computers from a time when the dude was 5-10 years old, oh also in 4K as well so you can see all his pores on his fatass face.

What do you mean by career?

Yea I was surprised by that too. I assumed he had to have some other full-time job. There's no way he survives entirely off of his sho--checks Patreon. .. who the fuck is paying for this shit?!

He lost me when he hoarded an entire TRS-80 with visible DRAM probs without ever fixing it because his limpwrist ass can't do anything but wood veneer, jerk off to goth girls, Dook 3D, hoard object and lie, who the fuck would even pay him to do any of that

I skipped through the last video that was posted and landed immediately on him stabbing an IC with a screwdriver to bend a leg back into place.
