Epic! 8-bitguy uses 1 weird trick to detroy rare prototypes!

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Near the end of the latest ep of the Texas Tech History videos, where Mr. Bitguy travels to various sites in Texas where companies like De Lorean, 3D Realms and Dell had their operations and occasionally interviews people who used to work there, says the next one will be the last because the videos haven't been very popular and the ad revenue isn't making up for the costs he's incurring to make them, which clearly involves a bit of travel. That's too bad because they were pretty entertaining and well-researched, and you'd think the topic would be a hit with his audience, but I guess enough of them are seeing "Texas" in the title and peaceing out. However, I watched this video and all the others while my ad blocker was on so I guess I'm part of the problem too.

This is really stupid and unprofessional, in my opinion. The videos could have been timeless and worked anywhere (not just Youtube), but he had to throw in a bit about how they're not making him money as if most people care that much. If he wanted to do a pet project that needed funding, he almost certainly could have gained it by posting about it and setting up some sort of fund, but instead he just does it on a whim without proper planning and then mentions this as an unsolvable problem to the people who DO watch it?
I don't hate Dave, clearly I watch his stuff, but this was a really dumb way to do this and it tells me he's not doing it out of passion and he's a poor planner.

He has no issues asking for tech and he has been very clear that he lacks storage space and does sell some of it, so he could have easily asked for stuff to sell on ebay as well as direct cash donations to support a series devoted to Texas tech history but instead he's a lil bitch about it.
Thank God someone finally agrees with me on that.

Imagine being such a colossal terachad that you dox your fucking security camera POVs in your video

He's already shown footage of the outside of his house and neighborhood in other videos, like when he's shown doing Retrobrite dips in his driveway or showing off his Chevy Volt in the driveway. He's talked about the city he lives in too. I don't know if he's doxed his address per se but I'm sure if someone cared enough to find it, they could have already well before this video.
He has shown his house on Tesla maps and lets people charge their cars at his charging station. Many people have scheduled meetups to see his collection and they've taken pics.
If you're a viewer of his intending on robbing him, you know he has guns and that he has a ton of security cameras and knows how to properly maintain them so they're not just for show. It'd be pretty retarded.

So Noelle Aman is Anders Enger Jensen? There doesn't seem to be a great effort to ditch the deadname, since there are still Soundcould, Bandcamp, and YouTube accounts with the deadname, and pretty much nothing with the new one. I mean, even on that video, this is the top comment that I can see currently…

Transitioning is a process, I suppose, but I would think changing the names of your Internet accounts would be one of the easier steps.

As for being autistic, well, we are talking about someone who makes chip tunes for early '80s home computers in 2020, so that was a given.
Anders Enger Jensen is a different composer, some norwegian dude. Noelle Aman was formerly Noah Aman, seen here from the Planet X3 making of:

You can already see where things were going just by the hair and that bookshelf.

I stand corrected. Searches for terms like "planet x-3 soundtrack" only show references to Jensen, though. I have to include Aman's name to see anything about him specifically.

So the person David hired to write the music for Planet X3 is also doing the music for his new game. And they Trooned out inbetween games. And they're literally autstic. Like just listening to them talk you can tell.

I just thought it was funny.
I was rewatching the development on Planet X3 today and when that guy was shown I was wondering if he was a low effort troon or just stuck in the 80s, guess it was the former

Selling donated tech is kind of a scummy thing to do.
I agree, generally, but he's pretty open about it so no one should be shocked and a gift is a gift. I was saying, though, that he could be very open about taking donations to then sell to fund his Texas history series instead of bitching out part-way through and then giving a spiel in the series about how no one watches it. It's like a fuck you to the people who are watching it and will watch it.

Is it? If you give something to someone, it becomes theirs to do as they wish with it. And I bet most of what he gets is stuff he can't make a good video for. What should he do if someone sends him a perfectly unremarkable VIC-20 or PC XT? Remake a video that's been done to death? Just have it take up space in his garage? Pay to ship it back?

Well, were I him, I probably wouldn't have an open P.O. box in the first place and force people to justify their need to send me something before they do so, but maybe he's afraid of missing out on some actually interesting stuff if that happens.

LGR protects his P.O. Box for that reason, and you have to contact him to send him stuff since he has to turn away a ton for space reasons. 8-Bit Guy doesn't have that luxury since his info is out there already. There is an old video where he does ask people to contact him first before sending him something, which should be common sense if sending something to a stranger, but beyond that people can just spam his address with mail.

If I were to ever send something to someone like that it'd either be something rare enough to justify a video or something that I don't care enough about to care about what happens to it. As long as it'd end up in the hands of someone who'll appreciate it without gouging the price I'd be fine with it.

Yea, I've been assuming that does it the LGR way. Clint has said that he never sells anything that he accepts as a donation, instead giving away to others in the retro community. Also apparently stuff that appears on LGR sends prices thru the roof, so he doesn't want to be seen to feature some rare oddware and then cash in on it.

Speaking of LGR, he released a video covering a mid-'90s shovelware compilation of Christmas-themed programs. The segment featuring the T-shirt making program was particularly funny and nostalgic if you're boomer enough to remember these sorts of things; I suggest you watch it if you don't want to watch the whole thing. Timestamped below.
