Haven’t a lot of companies gone back to proprietary tech because Epic has started trying to fuck with people? Also, why the fuck is Sweeney talking about the PS5’s SSD like it’s the 2nd Coming?
because the ad-copy said to talk about PS5's SSD, with no other explanations, because they didn't realize the ceo of EpicMegaGames was terrible at bullshiting and hyping people.
I got to the website itself, it's kinda impressive how much it runs like ass. The 3D background is slow and stuttery as heck, sometimes scrolling progresses the screen (but not always) it's... not looking great, tbh.
It was also notably difficult to find out who made it (Vicarious Visions - they made or had a hand in Destiny 2, Crash Trilogy, and the Skylanders games as of late). Its not the guys who made the recent shit ones (Robomodo) so... idk.
I don't think there'll be much backlash against it on the epic exclusive front. AFAIK Hawk's always been a big console series,
Vicarious Visions is also rumored to be the ones behind the Diablo 2 remake/remaster.
It will be interesting because Warcraft 3 reforged was entirely Blizzard. If D2R comes out really good then I think Blizzard as a whole really is finally finished and just exists in name only.

A lot of devs are happy with the PS5 SDD right now because the tec used are better than what are in PC currently and this should push SDD tec in PC forward,
Good video on the subject, bit outdated now know the speeds and tec behind both but still good.
SDD were the most requested feature from devs for the new consoles, and PC tec shouldn't be far behind, the speeds with be there by the end of the year with the rest of the tec coming 2021 or 2022 if I had to guess but doubt there will be many if any games using the tec by then anyway.
A Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2 Remake has just been announced as Epic Games Store's newest exclusive.
EDIT: The preorder website the official THPS Twitter has linked, tonyhawkthegame.com/buy, is also not actually going to the site, and is blasting people with security risk warning: use at your own risk.
EDIT 2: Updating pictures with URL for posterity/adding archives. Apologies.
EDIT 3: Archive for some reason isn't working for me right now, but here are the updated pictures. Opera specifically keeps trying to reload the page, don't know what that's about. Tested these on Mac and PC, both gave the same exact result.

I have news for you - PC tech has been there for years, console peasants are as always, couple steps behind.
PS5 projected SSD speed (which may get nerfed on release to shave off $3 from the parts bill) is allegedly 5.5 GB/s read speed.
You can pick up an nvme M.2 1TB drive with 5GB+ SSD up right now for about $200.

Honestly, with how much cash Rockstar made on 5 and RDR2 (and still making on both as they are still being bought or the whole online stuff), plus with 5 being what...7 years old? Yea, I can see them giving it away on Epic's store so they can sod off.
Epic also announced they're allowing anyone to use UE5 "for free" until they make $1 million in revenue. I assume "for free" comes with some caveats. Like "If you released a product using UE5 on PC, it has to be an Epic Game Store or related Tencent Marketplace exclusive, forever." Too good to be true.
Just to put it out there, Unity has been doing this for a very long time now, though last i read the sum was $400,000 for Unity.
EDIT: Unity has removed all of their royalties somewhere around 2018 2015. Instead they require you to buy their software if you hit a $200,000 / year revenue.
How much are they getting off of your hard earned money? $150 annual. The latter gives you additional services such as direct line to their help team.
Also, as far as the trailer goes, the only even remotely new tech in it, if it is new tech and faked, is the rock falling sound being affected by geometry. Everything else has been the norm in gamedev circles at least since 2017, some of the tech since 2015 ("Dynamic IK blending").
These "this engine can do this thing" visual displays are always just smoke and mirrors at any rate. Give me a month and i could run the exact same "totally real gameplay guys, it has a button press in it" in Gamebryo or some other ancient 3D engine, so long it supports any sort of dynamic light. It's more display how far hardware has come, more or less all the actual rendering and scripting is eminently transferrable between any 2 engines so long they're reasonably modern.
So, with Satisfactory finally coming to Steam, the game’s Steam forum is full of people piling in to run full-throated defense of Epic, Sweeney, TenCent, and Coffee Stain (who, as one of the earliest Epic exclusives, I actually don’t hold as much ill will towards, though I still think the bait & switch is shitty.)
Anyway, this is a pretty good gauge:
but this thread has some fun stuff. Mostly the usual “who cares about Tencent?” and “you can’t claim to support the free market and then get mad about exclusives!” stuff, though.
Why do people hate Epic so much. What has Epic done that made people treat it like a disease. Why can't Epic/Origins/Steam/Blizzard/and many more all exist at same time? Yes.. it doesn't have 1. Forums/Workshops/Artwork/ and such 2. No review section 3. Links to other similar games 4. 20000+...

I started archiving, but 51 pages of mostly circlejerk seemed a bit much.
I feel like this is a decent one page summary of the gist of the cut of the tack of that thread’s jib.
eta: I am having a serious sense of deja vu with that second screenshot, so if I or someone else already posted that same thread, I apologize.
It might just be years of cynicism talking, but that "Can someone CLEARLY explain why..." thread sounds like the consoomer version of the "change my mind" meme - fuck off, you don't want answers, you just want to argue and/or show what a good little goon you are.
So speaking of Epic, it seems the upcoming Total War game is gonna be an Epic exclusive and gonna become free for 24 hours upon it's release. This best the question: A. How much did Epic spend to SEGA to get that game and B.Really? You guys have SO little faith in your game that you're making it free upon release? Like, I know Total War Britannia didn't do well, but holy crap.

Yeah. Total War Troy is looking like an utter shitshow from how lazy the textures are in some places, courtesy of using Total War Atilla's engine, to the fact that some units have traits which render tactics actually useless for no reason. Plus CA is throwing in these "Myth units," and there is no real balancing being done. If you have the time, you might want to check out this video about early hands-on access this guy got and the response. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YazoJOWwNe0

Utter shit show of a game. Even the early access/gameplay demo Total War Youtubers had nothing nice to say about it. Cody Bonds played it and found that whenever Achilles and Hector dueled, Achilles would always, without fail, lose the duel... when asked about it, "everything is working as intended" was what he was told.
In addition, it commits the sin of trying to please everyone and pleasing no one. It's meant to be historical, but has hero units and winds of magic special abilities like healing. It also tries to be mythical...by having all the mythic units be larping cosplayers. Centaurs? That's just ordinary cavalry. Minotaur? That's a big singe unit man wearing a bull's skull. Just an utter disappointment.
Most importantly they said after they got the EGS cash injection that they can use the money to "create more/other Total War" and that they had "no plans in the future to go for EGS exclusivity", so this game is likely going to get no support. They probably realised too late that no one really gave a crap about their idea and reception was lukewarm at best, and decided to throw it to Mr. Moneybags for as much cash as possible rather than have it tank and get virtually nothing. Community seems to agree that it was a smart business decision given that no one gave a shit about the game prior to the EGS exclusivity reveal, and they don't seem to give a shit after the gameplay reveal either.

It isn't just the speed - it's how the speed that's utilized that's important.
PC Games can't take massive advantage of the speed currently because nearly 90% of all video games are being designed around consoles without no SSD - which specifically means that most games are designed around a slow hard drive, RAM, and hiding loading screens. Currently it's worth no one's time to go and alter the PC versions of games because of how drastic and massive the effort would be.
If SSDs are commonplace (ex- in all of the new consoles) then developers can start developing their framework differently and really start leaning into those speeds offered by SSDs.
It's cool that PCs have had SSDs for a while, but until nearly everyone has them - they can't universally be put into expected use.

PC exclusives exist, also games that are not shitty console ports, but are either built for the PC first and nerfed for consoles later or optimized for PC. These are actually majority of games worth playing at all as opposed to stuff on consoles.
The notion, that consoles will somehow magically utilize the speed of SSD better for anything than PC, barring console exclusives, that get a shitty low budget PC port, is ludicrous and you should feel ashamed for your post, peasant.
