Epic Games General Thread - Its time to talk about what the AAA gaming industry does not understand about the PC console.

The utility of a password manager far exceeds what you need for just your video game stuff, it's just generally a good idea to use one. Especially for KF stuff, I couldn't possibly keep track of all my different accounts and passwords without one.

A.) I would never entrust any piece of equipment with password data, even stuff that's in my own house, in case of theft; that's just asking for you to get your identity stolen.

B.) ...Why the hell do you have/need more than one account on Kiwi Farms, let alone have so many of them that you felt you needed a password manager to keep track of them all?

C.) Point still stands: GoG offers me password saving through its cloud servers alongside linking account features across every single one of the launchers I have. At least if there's a data breach, I can blame it on the incompetence of the company, rather than on leaving all of my personal data on a piece of hardware that could get lost or broken (seriously, get a password book or something that you can lock away somewhere at least...).

Or just wait for GoG Galaxy 2.0 to do that for you.

I don't think it does that, from what I saw it just arranges all your games from different launchers. But if you're gonna play a specific game from steam or say Uplay, you're still gonna need to launch said launcher.

A) the password database is encrypted and protected by a master password itself, and I keep a backup of it on a USB drive in the event that I lose access to my PC or the file is somehow lost. If I was worried about someone having access to my accounts through it then it also acts as a handy list of all my accounts that need their passwords changed.

B) I have one and only one Kiwi Farms account. I'm talking about accounts for gathering content from other sites, deviantart, twitter, multiple email accounts etc.

You do technically still need to open up the launchers (albeit GoG Galaxy 2.0 will open/log-in in the background once it has the information so as to not take you away from their launcher), but depending on what the developers of those launchers allow (Ubisoft with Uplay, EA with Origin, etc.), you can save your username, password, and account information on GoG if the developers of those launchers so choose. Ironically enough, Origin is the most feature-friendly in that regard, and is the one of the top of my head that I know allows this currently. This could obviously change on release since 2.0 is in Beta, but it is a thing they're working on negotiating.

Last I heard they were moving to negotiate with Microsoft, after they didn't have much luck with Epic.

A.) Ah okay, that's at least better than I expected. I just figured you were relying on the password encryption system period. I've seen so many people fall for not having a safeguard in place.

B.) Oh, then that's my bad. Shouldn't have assumed there.

Some guy named Linuxmaster in one of the twitter archives is bitching about how Linux is 4srs gaming platform and Sweeny's response to that was.

Im not a PC wizard so is there a reason this isn't as ridiculously stupid as it looks at face value?

We got another Epic Exclusive:

I've never heard of it, but I guess if you like Tetris its Epic Game Store for you. Still snagging shit, no shopping cart. Crap features. I don't see many people moving for EGS for Tetris. I wonder what will happen when they finally run out of free games to give people.

I'm fucking unbelievably hype for Tetris Effect PC, but it's still a re-release that I will wait until it comes over for cheap on Steam next year.

You should get a PS4 copy if you like Tetris because it's absurdly good - doubly so if you have any love for Rez, but I have no fucking idea why they would charge $40 on Epic Games Store and do dumb shit like supporting ultra-wide resolutions (who the fuck cares about 1440p in TETRIS).

The argument for Epic and against Steam seems pretty territorial to me. Most people don't like change, especially when it feels enforced on them. I imagine the people who are against Epic are probably just used to how the way things are and perhaps that's how it should be.

It feels like a non-argument. I had a friend who felt cheated about Metro Exodus and the affair between his pre-ordered digital copy and the fact it wasn't gonna be in his store of choice. He was really mad and kept telling me how awful it is that he has to download a different client for a couple of games. This same person also has UPlay, Origin, GOG, Battle.net, Gamespy.net, OnLive, and even the MicroSoft Store all on his desktop as a shortcut and he sees no issue with this
LOL no. The epic launcher includes spyware and is funded by china. Also its features suck, but I'm completely ignoring that.

What does that mean?

He should clean up his desktop. Onlive shut down all of their services over four years ago.

Sounds like he gave them all a try and decided to just stick with Steam. I've had several of those installed before, like Origin for SimCity 4, uPlay for Assassin's Creed 4, and Battle.net for Overwatch. For one reason or another, I eventually have to uninstall and reinstall the game, and I eventually just quit caring. I haven't played Overwatch in years, though I'd still pop in and check it out every once in a while if I had it on Steam. But I can't remember the password to my Battle.net account, and I frankly just don't care enough to do the whole password reset dance, and then go dig up the janky program I found on Reddit that lets you play it with a Steam controller. And have to do all the trial-and-error if it doesn't work for whatever reason.

Steam just handles this shit all automatically, and of course, since it's my main thing, my password is seared into my memory like my social security number. Steam is just minimal hassle for me and it's worked well for years.

I also don't play anything from Ubisoft whilst logged into uPlay, nor anything Rockstar whilst logged into Social Club. Anything that requires me to make

YET

Apparently a lot of people have had games go missing from their libraries, and it looks like a lot of them are games like Subnautica that were given away for free.
Sweeny the Weenie claims it's all just a mistake, but frankly I think that guy can blow it out his ass all things considered.
SidAlpha did the legwork on this one, including links to tweets from Sweeny in the pinned comment.

They fixed it with his help. Epic is still incompetent and garbage but it's solved already.

SidAlpha can go fuck a garbage disposal with his Jesus complex. Fortunately the sentence "Epic fucks up again" should suffice to keep me in the loop.

Epic is run by scumbags but holy shit I refuse to listen to a single second of SidAlpha huff his own farts. That guy is by far one of the most annoyingly self-aggrandizing pieces of shit on YouTube. Only marginally better than Jim Sterling.

Well, one can say that the failure of their storefront was about as Epic as Fortnite's rise during the "Last man standing shooter" meme genre.
