Epic Games General Thread - Its time to talk about what the AAA gaming industry does not understand about the PC console.

Fuck me sideways. I was looking forward to MW5:M. I wonder how much money Epic threw at PGI to get this?

[angrily kicks a trashcan]

Generally the numbers that get thrown around are 200% of all funding, so since MW5 got funded for 5 million, EGS kicked them 10 million at least. This is in addition to whatever PGI gets to keep from the number of people who do not request refunds, which will likely still be $2 million (assuming more than half of the people cancel).

Pure speculation numbers, but seems pretty consistent with other projects.

Honestly, as much as I dislike EGS, putting that aside, this is still a bad move. What Epic Games Store needs is a real blockbuster game, something like Half Life/Counter Strike was for Steam - not picking up a handful of these (albeit cool) niche titles like MW:5, Tetris Effect, Rocket League, etc. I don't think Fortnite is that game, despite the fact it's financially very successful - they need something that people will suffer through their launcher for. I do not think that's going to be Borderlands 3. either.

Compared to what is happening to steam however, it is leaving people who want more niche games on steam up the creek without a paddle. They only got some knockoff version of the game which in this case is metal wolf chaos. Meanwhile all they have for upcoming games is either some adult game from Kagura Games or Early access. None of which EGS would carry given the bad rep from critics as shovelware or never finished

PGI is a trash-tier developer, so its not shocked that they took Epic's cash.

I would actually not be surprised if this isn't some part of Epic's strategy, killing crowdfunding completely and have all crowdfunded games come to them entirely.

They also seem to be picking up games with fanatical fanbases. Shenmue III was still a huge mistake IMO. This might not be as Mechwarriors are fanatical, but I would not be surprised if this was micro-transaction ridden as well. It also has no mech lab and limited customization. So fuck that

I have no idea what you are talking about. There are plenty of niche and AA games on Steam.

I think he means there are no games specific to the Mechwarrior niche, now that MW5 is going to EGS. No recent ones, anyway. I don't know if Mechwarrior has any "similar" games on Steam, but none that I could think of.

Same as there being a void in the "this is kind of like fallout" niche with Outer Worlds going to EGS.

No mech lab?!? Wtf is the point of stompy robits if I can't meticulously tune their load out to my liking?

Boooo pgi

Metal Wolf Chaos is the closest "knockoff" title i can think of

Hopefully Armored Core 7 will eventually be developed and released on the PC. Maybe Metal Wolf Chaos will be successful and convince people to make more.

This is true. Mechwarrior 5 is basically the only mech game around.

I mean there is, but it has limited customization, so it might not be what you're looking for. Its also because they want to sell you shit through microtransactions probably.

They're on 6 if they actually do release another. This whole Mech Warrior thing got me thinking about AC as well and how horrifying to me it would be if that got poached by EGS, but with the recent From releases all being on Steam and GOG its probably safe.

It's remarkably easy to forget how Epic has Fortnite. Then again, HL & CS were nearly PC exclusive†, so you were forced to use Steam, which slipped a digital storefront into the mandatory obnoxious software you had to use for server browsing. Meanwhile, Fortnite is cross platform with everything but PlayStation 4, so everyone on Switch, Xbox One, and mobile will never even see the Epic Games storefront. They're not really bringing any reasons for Fortnite fans to even check out the storefront. Do they give any Fortnite-related bonuses or freebies for even just browsing around? That's a simple little gesture they could do to draw in customers. Free games weekly is a pretty awesome thing to have when you're a kid with no money, but I wouldn't be surprised if the vast, vast majority of Fortnite players are completely oblivious to that offer.

†Half-Life 2 and Counter Strike were both released on the original Xbox, but their popularity was negligible. HL2 didn't have any multiplayer support at all, and CS needed a paid Xbox Live subscription, while PC players could enjoy it for free.

Daemon X Machina is out in two months, and while it's looks a lot more Armored Core meets Zone of the Enders then Mechwarrior it should scratch a similar itch, albeit not on the PC. It's done by some of the people from Armored Core. Here's the moonspeak trailer where they go over customization.

Considering From Software's PC success with the Dark Souls games, I'm surprised they haven't tried to compete with Mechwarrior using their Armored Core franchise. Doomed to a console niche forever.

It isnt mouse and keyboard friendly as Mechwarrior. An indie game tried making an armored core clone for the PC and I did find it kind of clunky like a real AC would

You could say the same about dark souls even if the keyboard controls are implemented poorly controllers are always an options. Its is kind of the good thing about pc gaming you can play how you want. They could even do the Yakuza thing on Pc where they put up a message saying "real "x" use a Gamepad"

Epic is really taking the No such thing as bad publicity thing to heart. I can't wait to see how they will fuck up this PR nightmare and what wonderful choice quotes by the Sweeney. I'm just hoping he just comes out and says I don't give a shit.

AND ANOTHER ONE GONE AND ANOTHER ONE GONE, ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST

Ooblets is now exclusive to EGS

I never cared for this game at all

however, the devs blog post about this is absolutely cunty and makes me not want to check it out at all.

>First thing I see is the fucking floss dance
Y’know what, Epic? You can keep this game. Also, goddamn do these devs sound like a bunch of fart sniffers.

What possessed this tard to be such a pretentious fuck about this when they already know people are pissed about Epic?

Look at all these guys that appreciate that letter. Really selling that game to them on such a divisive platform
