Fuck me sideways. I was looking forward to MW5:M. I wonder how much money Epic threw at PGI to get this?
[angrily kicks a trashcan]
Generally the numbers that get thrown around are 200% of all funding, so since MW5 got funded for 5 million, EGS kicked them 10 million at least. This is in addition to whatever PGI gets to keep from the number of people who do not request refunds, which will likely still be $2 million (assuming more than half of the people cancel).
Pure speculation numbers, but seems pretty consistent with other projects.
Honestly, as much as I dislike EGS, putting that aside, this is still a bad move. What Epic Games Store needs is a real blockbuster game, something like Half Life/Counter Strike was for Steam - not picking up a handful of these (albeit cool) niche titles like MW:5, Tetris Effect, Rocket League, etc. I don't think Fortnite is that game, despite the fact it's financially very successful - they need something that people will suffer through their launcher for. I do not think that's going to be Borderlands 3. either.
