Yeah, I'm not a fucking shareholder. Good you got paid. I honestly don't give a fuck. Enjoy that blood money while Epic's Chink overlords allow it until they find out that Epic is bleeding money like a fucking sieve, because they're praying these niche indie games break even. (lol they won't). Hope Epic is financing all your games now, because nobody is going to by them on that shit platform while Steam is revamping curation, library features and listening to feedback. While Epic has no reviews, no shopping cart, no offline support, can't afford to go on 3rd party stores because of its minuscule cut, no forums to support or report bugs, no community hub, no easy modding support, no streaming, no VOIP, no discord integration, no group chat, no broadcast features for developers to show off their names, poor security, uptight curation with no 'bad games', no guides...I can go on and on. Epic is literally a web-page with a check-out and a friends list. That's ALL it is. Oh, no achievements either. No ability to see what your friends are playing. I mean, the gulf between Steam and Epic is the Marianas fucking trench.
Because they're honest and they already are releasing rehashed zombie games, so what the fuck do they care?
A lot of people's reps are being burned. I've said it before in this thread, Microsoft basically is extremely pissed at Epic for devaluing Obsidian by making their release an Epic Exclusive (blame Take2, since that money just went right into executives pockets) which completely soured them on exclusivity. CD Projekt Red, one of the most beloved studios, is never going exclusive. The problem for Epic and exclusives, like many in this thread have stated, they have no game changers. Picking up shitty indies that no one has ever heard about is not attractive. Fortnite is viewed as a game for children and most people who play it only play Fortnite.
Epic has nothing of value to peel users off of Steam. Even if you want something like 'The Outer Worlds', you can buy that on the Microsoft store. And I'd laugh if they did Steam integration to fuck with Epic. Another part of the problem for Epic is that every time something is an 'Epic Exclusive', I simply just write it off. 'Welp, I've got plenty of games, not buying that' and poof its gone.
I know with people viewing how much I post in this thread I must think about Epic exclusives all the time. I pretty much only think about them when the news breaks and then just forget about them and look to new games coming out on Steam or GoG or even console to see if they'll come to PC. I imagine its the same way for many people.
The only chance Epic really has is to somehow transform its Fortnite audience into Epic customers. But that's simply not going to happen.
Nobody identifies as a consumer you fucking faggot. If you buy something, you are consuming it, HENCE YOU ARE A CONSUMER. IT IS NOT AN IDENTITY, IT IS SIMPLY YOUR STATUS BECAUSE YOU ARE CONSUMING SOMETHING. You're a writer you stupid fucking nigger. Hang yourself.
This is also not stability. It is sacrificing long term growth for short term profit, like every bad idea. Its going to be circular. The game didn't sell on Epic, doesn't sell on Steam, they need more Epic bucks to release their next game. The cycle continues. Eventually, Epic gets no return on investment because indies are a tough sell as it is and their 12% cut is fucking them in the ass. So once the Epic bucks run out, they're just fucked. Their rep is in the toilet, they're arrogant and nobody wants to deal with them.
You see, Epic is buying exclusives in the hopes that these devs just stay on Epic. The problem is once the analytics come in that these games aren't selling shit or bringing people to the platform, they'll inevitably decrease. Which then will put many indie studios under because they've been relying on Epic payouts for so long that they actually haven't bothered to market their product. And once that year long exclusive is up, they're going to have to compete with games on Steam. That are new. Nobody is buying your year-old game at full price.
So this is bad in the long run for studios. Because its just like the lottery. You didn't really earn that money, its just given to you. People fuck that up all the time. Indies will get this money, inflate their budgets out the ass. Then because the money runs out and Epic's projected sales money does as well, they're stuck selling on Epic for a year. Then they get to move to Steam, where the forum fills up with posts calling them cucks and sell-outs and mocking them while no one buys their game. And because Epic didn't make any money off them, no more exclusive.
This is a short-term solution to a long term problem. An indie that works its ass off on Steam and is self-reliant will make far more money in the long term than anything on Epic.
No consumer should care about developers unless they're catering to them. Its my fucking money, I'll spend it where I want it. I'm not supporting some faggot dev on an inferior platform when I've got GoG and Steam, two superior platforms, one run by the best company in gaming. Epic runs a child-gambling simulator where children get bullied for not buying microtransactions and they have no time-table on a shopping cart.
The hilarious thing is that these journos and devs think that gamers will just buy anything. That's really not the case anymore. This industry has pushed its consumers to the edge of a cliff and then pushed them off it. Like Mass Effect 3. Bioware was like, 'Oh, everyone will forget about this.' No. They didn't. You think people are going to forget about all these developers that fucked them? Ok.
Corporations aren't people. Publishers aren't people. And I'm sorry being a dev is hard. But you know what? Not my fucking problem. You want my money, earn it through good will and good games. If not, starve. I don't really care. That's capitalism bitch. And if you don't think people will forget this? You're insane. My time is limited. My money is limited. I will only spend on things that are 1) Convenient for me. 2) A better product 3) A dev that doesn't hate its audience and sucks game journo cock. If you have a problem, suck on the edge of a shotgun.
It's kinda funny, how out of all the companies thus far only the guys at Rebellion said "Yeah, they pretty much offered us a huge ton of cash. Hell, we didn't even consider ourselves that good of a company worthy of being bribed, but hey free cash is free cash."
Because they're honest and they already are releasing rehashed zombie games, so what the fuck do they care?
That's the thing these dingbats don't realize, the money up-front is nice but then your niche indie game releases on the EGS and sells like shit, then a year later it releases on Steam where it sells even worse because people think you're a sell-out hack? Good luck trying to heal your reputation on that one, and especially good luck with trying to convince people to buy your newer games. It's a very stupid long-term move.

Every single goddamn Epic defense is just "you just don't want to use a different launcher because you're a lazy piece of shit! Think of the developers, asshole!"

I don't know what level of chess this is

Fuck Jason Schreier. If they're making their money anyway, who cares about them? Why should gamers give a shit. Enjoy being on Epic. Hope you think that will continue forever and your customers will still be there for your next game, idiots.
