Epic Games General Thread - Its time to talk about what the AAA gaming industry does not understand about the PC console.

The borderlands YouTube channel announced a Fortnite crossover. The like to dislike ratio and comments are over reacting just a smidge.

Now I'm no financial analyst by any stretch of the imagination, but this to me reeks of severe desperation from higher-ups.

"Fuck, Borderlands isn't actually selling as well as we'd hoped...uuuuuuuhhhh, I got it! Let's shove it into Fortnite mid-Season X cuz everybody fucking hates those stupid mechs anyways, and shove Pandora in there! Kids like Pandora! Rated M? What's that, is that a community rating in the Fort-Nite?"

As for the initial like/dislike ratio and comments...nah, I'd say they're fairly justified at the moment; the icing on the cake to this (and the reason for people getting incredibly pissed) is that they also nerfed building to oblivion with this update, a feature that the community desperately wanted kept as is for mitigating the issues the mechs made for the game. These dumbasses nerfed being able to build in Fortnite all because of OP mechs that they refuse to budge on and in fact doubled down on because "muh robots in Pandora"; it's now just a suckier cartoony version of PUBG with the singular thing that was unique about it in comparison to every other BR game: just gone overnight.

Ashes to ashes, dabs to dabs.
And nothing of value was lost.

Looks like somebody has been making a small fortune off of exceptional people.
TBH i think all indie-devs, who talk to their fans directly, should research or read something about public speaking. Not only it is a great softskill for any person, it can help later to pitch your game to investors\publishers\consumers without misunderstandings and without need to hire faggots like Rami.

Bordelands 3 is having bad sales?

The fact that fortnight made a borderlands crossover event is perfect. 2 shitty games equals 1 shit sandwich
I dunno man. I’m hyped for borderlands 3. The only way they could fuck it up is if they have a side quest that was made for randy pitchford to vent about people saying mean things about him on Twitter.

I just think it speaks to Epic's mindset and serves as future enticement for other AAA titles to come over. Its basically a message "Sign exclusivity with us and we'll put your IP in the most popular game right now to make bank".

The problem is, though, if Fortnite nerfed buildings that badly, then I think a huge core of the audience goes. It was basically minecraft with guns sort of. You've basically got 0 reason to be 'lore friendly' (I guess?) in Fortnite because its a cartoon and these skins and packs basically serve as an advertisement for BL3 which they want to sell. Don't know why it wasn't solely cosmetic but breaking the game.

I never liked the gunplay of BL, and the humor is dumb. Doesn't help that Randy Pitchford stole the artwork from another artist.

There will be. I can't doubt it now that it's been mentioned.

Dealing with EpicGames is like a litmus test for shitty devs/publishers.

Do you mean the actual assets, or just the comic book style? The very existence of the concept of style theft is controversial since the line between inspiration and style theft would be extremely thin, sometimes nonexistant, and potentially easily exploitable if a company doesn't like that artists are basing their styles on the company's work.

I believe that there's a thread here on Randy Pitchford. From what I understand, Gearbox contacted an artist called Ben Hibons to work on Borderlands, but nothing came out of it. They just kinda used him as a "inspiration" for the cel-shading.

Here is the link to a movie Hibons made called Codehunters:

Here is a E3 2009 showing of Borderlands:

Theft in that Randy extended a hand to the artist behind the "Codehunters" short and then left his response hanging while proceeding to rip it off with the in-house team.

So while Darq dev said he's not gonna go against Epic, he does a brilliant fucking manouver and checkmates EGS. There's no real option for them to come out looking good here. Deny him and they just reinforce that they want unfair competition, accept him and people are less likely to accept the exclusivity deal.

Ubisoft calls Steam's business model "Unrealistic", and claims it doesn't reflect the world we live in today, due to the revenue share. Will continue to do business with Epic for exclusives.

Ubisoft’s vice president of partnerships and revenue Chris Early has revealed why the company has been less interested in releasing games on Steam.
Speaking with the New York Times, Early discussed his thoughts on Steam in comparison to the Epic Game Store.
The New York Times claim Early did not sell Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 on Steam as “Valve would not modify its revenue-sharing model.” Early then explained why this was “part of a broader business discussion at Ubisoft” regarding releases on Steam.
“It’s unrealistic, the current business model that they have. It doesn’t reflect where the world is today in terms of game distribution.”
The New York Times also reports that “other developers declined to discuss contractual details of their exclusive deals with Epic, citing nondisclosure agreements, but they said money was a factor in their decision-making.”

Koch media also wants to do more business with Epic, even after the Metro backlash.

Translation: Epic is giving us piles of money and Steam isn't, so fuck Steam.

Which is a bigger evil: EGS or Uplay?
