Epic Games General Thread - Its time to talk about what the AAA gaming industry does not understand about the PC console.

You should see all the videos on YouTube, Twitter, Reddit, basically ever social media site you can find through Google if children going mental and/or crying their eyes out while staring at this black hole for 24 goddamn hours waiting for something to happen.

It’s fucking hilarious.
People staring at a black screen for a day straight or losing their shit because they can't play a video game is honestly kind of disturbing/sad rather than hilarious imo.
I know they're mostly kids but still thats not healthy or normal.

No you see Fortnite going offline for a day was actually genius because it wasn’t expected! That is a great way to design marketing stunts! What could possibly go wrong?

You know what's even more hilarious? They didn't take that break to buy and play something from the Epic Game Store.

Just a reminder, since Outer Worlds is coming out next week, it's coming on the Microsoft store in addition to Epic. People not wanting to support the Epic store and not wanting to pirate can still get it that way.

It's coming out on Xbox Game Pass day one, so I'm sure it's a "high quality" game.

Microsoft bought Obsidian - technically TOW is a MS 1st party title, so it's probably trying to use it as a "big get" for Game Pass (similar to other MS 1st party titles like Forza and Gears 5). They do this with a lot of the first party games. That said, the Dev Diaries/interviews don't seem amazing so far.

I imagine they'll get a lot of people on PC to try it that way - because $1/$5 for a month of game pass probably sounds a lot more appetizing than $59.99 to the EGS store.

Forgive me for not knowing how to archive on my phone, but we sort of have confirmation that Valve’s 30% cut was 100% industry standard.
Howare they treating this as news? I remember back in 2009 or so devs on podcasts discussing this and basically saying Steam chose the 30% because it was an approximate average of most physical retailers, because the retailers were terrified that if Steam took a significantly lower cut it would disincentivize publishers from selling via physical stores, and they might reciprocate by not stocking their console releases.

As it turns out, PC games stopped being sold at retail anyway, but not for that reason,

Or you can become a consolefag if worse comes to worse. When does the exclusivity time out on The Outer Worlds, this game actually seems like it will be worth paying for according to early reviews. No bugs apparently.

Most PC gamers will just crack and pirate games before it gets that bad. The convenience of piracy is a big part of what makes the PC gaming industry so vastly different from the console industry, and is why EGS's attempts at migrating aggressive, anti-consumer business tactics from the latter into the former market are doomed to fail long term.
