Epic Games General Thread - Its time to talk about what the AAA gaming industry does not understand about the PC console.

I think that is part of what he wants to do, but he needs to get his foot in the door.

He wants his own EGS on Apple..so he can start doing the stupid shit he is doing with PC on IOS.

"Candy Crush 2 an EGS Exclusive on IOS"
They in no way have the money or pull to go against Apple in a bidding war. They don't really have the pull against Steam. Cook would fuck them into the dirt as soon as they tried that.

Never underestimate the power of getting high off your own farts because your game is the big new fad.

and you just know where that leads to: "wtf sony and microsoft why are you the only ones allowed to sell shit on your consoles?". ironically he'd even have a better argument getting in there than trying to piss off apple.

epic is like that certain type of cousin you have to invite out of obligation and now that it got a bit of dosh turned full-blown shithead.

It worked for me, here you go:

and ofc pc gaymur doesn't disappoint, that's a spicy take about the size of fortnite's playerbase forcing apple to open it's store. it's like I'm reading 4chan posts in article form.

Fortnite is losing PC players. Its real hope is that it picks up on a Mobile platform. Sweeny is a dumb faggot who gets triggered by 30% and his Chink overlord masters are whipping him daily. All Epic has is Fortnite. And believe me, people will not be crying when the Epic Game store can no longer afford exclusives.

You have to be fucking retarded to pick a fight with two of the richest companies on the planet, purposefully violate their TOS and piss them off. Do you REALLY think Google or Apple needs Fortnite? Sweeny has completely overestimated his value.

He's also a fucking hypocrite who was praising Steam a few years ago and worried Microsoft would create a walled garden. And then what does this dumb fuck do? Create a walled garden. I hope Epic goes the way of CryEngine.

Do you have some numbers for the losing pc players thing?

There have been talks of Fornite losing numbers, but they weren't big. Most of that was caused by Epic forcing people to switch to much powerful PC's or pretty much force them to install Windows 10, combined with Epic banning a lot of accounts that hacked fornite (or going lawsuit crazy with it), an there was also a thing how they tried to sue some online magazine because they posted an article how Epic and Fornite have kinda dipped in numbers when it came to profit.

Man, I’ve probably said it before but remember when Epic were just the guys who made Unreal Tournament and Unreal Engine? I miss those days.
I mean, the Unreal ENgine is still a thing. Frankly, I'd say both Fornite and the Engine is the only thing keeping them in business, so even if say Fornite folds they still have the UE to fall back on.

I don't know about unreal engine, if I was a game developer I would rethink using for my game because I don't know when the epic will go full retard against some marketplace.

Well, but it's what...UE or the Unity engine? Sure, there's Valves Source 2 engine, but the issue with those is all games made on the Source engine are tied to steam because of a special protection system they had, as was the deal with that SiN Emergencies game.

I forgot this part. Unity still shitty for most games?

Unity is actually getting a lot better. It was terrible awhile ago, but that's no longer the case. Its just a very affordable engine. It used to be known as a budget engine but that's not really the case anymore.

Yeah, but Valve still produces other tools you can use in games. For example Escape from Tarkov is using 'Steam Audio' with its own engine. So Valve still produces tools you can use and not have them tied to Steam. Steam Audio also has the benefits of not being tied to Steam and being completely free as well as royalty free. So there's other stuff out there you can use. So if you hate Unity's sound, you can just swap it out with Steam Audio and not have to worry about paying anyone anything. Of course, the benefits to Valve is that its basically free advertising for them.

They'd have the UE to fall back on, but they would no longer have 'Fortnite Money' to buy exclusives for their store.

Unity's lighting and post capabilities have greatly improved.

The one big thing that still remains is that textures do not 100% transfer if you save shit out as an FBX where as Unreal doesn't have this problem. Unreal also has better integration with things like Adobe's Substance painter and Quixel Mixer.

.objs and unity still requires you to manually transfer and place textures and any lighting effects have to be redone with unity's own equivalents and you can't transfer emission effects from Blender, Maya, or max directly into Unity.

Unless I'm missing something, supposedly Marmoset Toolbag has a workaround for unity with how it bakes textures. But i've never used software exclusive for texture baking and have always used with whatever came with the main modeling program or subdivision modeling programs.

TLDR we're giant hypocritical piss babies, so give us an automatic win.

It's almost like if you declare war against one of the biggest companies on earth they have ways of expressing their displeasure. And so long as they're doing it legally within the realm of competition, you can whine like a bitch all you like, you're still getting the shaft from Apple. I guess the question is whether they're actually engaging in anticompetitive trade practices or, more importantly, whether Epic can actually prove that and prosecute a lawsuit against something like Apple.

iirc unreal also comes with the ps4 devkit, so it's an easy choice for devs in case they want to got multiplat - and besides singleplayer stuff is absolute dogshit since it's designed for dedicated servers, so any p2p implementation has to be done by the devs themselves - as if some AA devs are able to do it. and did I mention there's still no interpolation on listen servers, which makes games played via the internet a fucking mess? even doom in the fucking 90's managed to work better than that shit.
