There's been some news out of the United Kingdom about the Cass Review which has been used to clamp down on gender affirming care in England, Scotland, and in other places. Now, the person whose name is on the document, Dr. Hilary Cass, is walking back that very review, saying now that transgender people deserve individualized care according to their individual needs and age and stage. Now, this is a far cry from what the Cass Review says.
For instance, the Cass Review says that transgender people should be given hormone therapy at 16 years old with extreme caution, with clear rationale for not waiting until 18. And in fact, much of the interpretations of the Cass Review by the leading medical authorities in the United Kingdom have judged this review to approve bans on puberty blockers and extreme restrictions on transgender care. They have even used this review to justify an inquest into 17 to 25 year old transgender care in England.
This is not the only thing that Dr. Hilary Cass is walking back in her latest statement to the Kite Foundation. She also defends her meeting with Governor Ron DeSantis's medical board picks who were specifically picked to ban transgender care. We're talking about Patrick Hunter from the Catholic Medical Association, which specifically says that he cannot find that gender affirming care is positive.
Now, Dr. Hilary Cass says that she only took the meeting because he introduced himself as a pediatrician and that she had no idea what his political affiliations were. But in an exclusive document given to me, I have uncovered that this introduction was actually made by Dr. Kaltiala, who was on the Cass Review team. Other court documents state that Dr. Kaltiala worked with Dr. Patrick Hunter on many occasions.
And so the way that Dr. Cass says that she was introduced to this DeSantis person could not be true. And in fact, it is unfathomable that she could not have known his political affiliations. The Cass Review is collapsing like a house of cards. However, in the United Kingdom, there is so much political will to targeting transgender people that these critiques are not allowed there. And indeed, anybody making these critiques are targeted by British media. I am not bound by that media ecosystem. I hope that you've enjoyed my updates on the Cass Review.
