I guess they never read the Silmarillion or wiki'd it.

Eru Illuvatar is God. The Ainur, Maiar, and Valar are angels. He also used them to partially explain paganism, since it was the lacking knowledge of the full and seeing these entities as gods that did it. Melkor/Morgoth is Satan, and the Umaiar are his legions of Demons.

He might have use a lot of Eddaic and Celtic prose and myths in his work and made this his own, but he wrote it with some level of faith in it. Not full CS Lewis level, but there are elements to it.

Tolkien, like the English church fathers he read, believed that Celtic mythology was a scuffed lens looking at the true Biblical mythology. A lot of legends were preserved in their entirety because early monks were adamant that they were important to understanding their faith. The prevailing theory today is that Beowulf exists solely because it was considered a morality tale, for example.

Are we reading the same Bible? God didn't kill the Israelites after they worshiped the golden calf, he condemned them to roam the desert for 40 years. He never killed them on the spot. WTF is this guy talking about?
I can't see the TikTok so I don't know what that guy talked about, but:
1. God did intend to destroy the people, but Moses interceded on their behalf (Exodus 32:11-14)
2. Moses did order the Levities to kill about 3000 people (but, perversely, not including Aaron), claiming it was God's order (Exodus 32:27-29)
3. Soon afterwards God inflicted the people with a plague (the Chinese Union Version literally says "God kills"), categorically because of the Golden Calf incident (Exodus 32:35)

The Old Testament did call for brutality quite a bit, but considering that said violence was against particularly vile pagan societies, it's not hard to see why it would request that. Of course, they then had to ignore the New Testament's more merciful message and try to push a few lines against violent slave revolts and beatifying marital devotion to try to treat the entire Bible as an evil document.
Alot of athiest and anti bible people like to leave out what the enemy did to Israel or how it violates God’s law. They either do ignorantly and just repeat reddit talking points from basement dwelling atheist neck beards on reddit or purposefully leave it out to deceive. The Lord warned the Israelites while they were living among pagan societys to not follow their sick practices like pedophilia, incest and child sacrifice. This is exactly why God wanted to destroy them so badly because of the vile things they do.

Moment of silence for these people's families who have to hear the same spiel about how Jesus was a hecking socialist or maybe a fucked up non-euclidian ball of eyes but definitely NOT a white guy (mind = blown) every year at Christmas

Oh, God didn't kill Israelites, Moses did after seeing the blasphemy. And he didn't even kill all of them.
Wow that's dumb. There were a lot Catholic authors, you know? Like Dante?

Well we wouldn't have to keep bringing up the not-white guy thing if people didn't still insist on it...

The Lord warned the Israelites while they were living among pagan societys to not follow their sick practices like pedophilia, incest and child sacrifice.
Prevent child sacrifice by killing the children. Whu?\

Also, I've yet to hear a Bible apologetic justify the killing the Job's family and friends.

The Lord actually spared the children of the pagan societys to have an eternal life instead of letting them grow older to be wicked like their parents. If God was to kill the parents and other adults only who would care for the millions of parentless children ? Should they just starve to death ? The suffering of Job in the bible was an example to all of us to comfort us when we go through times of trouble. Job was describe as righteous man who lived for God and despite times of despair still held on to God. Job is an example that bad things happened to good people and in the bible his friends who comforted him quickly turned against him and accused him being sinful to explain why bad things happened to him but God in the end rebuked them for that.

If you read the bible you would know that Job’s friends didn't die it was just his children and they were killed by satan who was roaming the Earth looking for trouble and to turn people away from God. The Lord knew his thoughts and asked him if he “considered his servant Job?” satan accused Job of only being good and faithful because he recieved blessings from God and if stripped away will curse God and leave him so God allowed satan to kill Jobs children, stripping away his wealth , and harsh skin disease but the one thing satan couldnt do was to kill Job. And through all that Job despite being angry and confused at God still remained faithful to God and didn't curse him. At the end Job was rewared for his faithfulness and required twice the wealth he had before and twice as many children as before.
The book of Job is one of my favorite books because it doesnt hide away that christians will face trials and hardships and just because bad things happened to you it doesnt mean you are to blame. Too many people listen to that prosperity gospel and believe being a christian is happiness and blessings 24/7 and too many turn away from the faith when they see its not true. Should we only love God when we receive his blessings and turn away from him when things go sour? The Lord chose Job because he knew he was the only one at that time who could remain faithful and to teach us to hold on in times of trouble. Sorry if this is kinda long.

Where is it stated in scripture that they went to Heaven?
The suffering of Job in the bible was an example to all of us to comfort us when we go through times of trouble.
And the suffering of his family when God had them slaughtered?
so God allowed satan to kill Jobs children
And what sin did Job's children commit to deserve butchering?

Well, you're anti prosperity gospel, good. That's by far the worst variety of Christianity.
twice the wealth he had before and twice as many children as before.
And the original children stayed butchered and were deprived of life. All for a bet.
Agreed. Mediterraneans are black.
Who said this again?

1)God is a just and righteous God. He is not going to send a baby and children to hell especially the fact that they have no idea of salvation or God. This is why he hated child sacrifice and abuse. The Lord Jesus said “let the children come to me, and do not hinder them. For the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these” (mathew 19:14). And many times in scripture did God calls us to to humble ourselves like little children (mathew 18:1-5)and that children are a blessing( psalm 123:3).

2,3) Please reread what I said about the lessons of Jobs suffering as well as the death of his children because Job did not walked in bad ways but he still suffered as well as his family because the point of the book of Job is that bad things can happen to good people because of the burden of this fallen world. It doesnt matter what his children did to deserve to die it was about the message that this fallen world will take lives. They were not butcherd btw they were crushed by a collapsing building by satan. Btw they werent small children they actually were adults because they were described as eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother house before the building collaspe

5) You day deprived of life in this fallen world as if the world is better than the eternity in heaven. We with our finite mind view death as the end of everything but to God its the leaving of the earth to go to the other side. Those sons and daughters considering the downfall of humanity with pagan practices, sicknesses and other sins have it better in heaven.

This was not a bet at least not in Gods eyes because he knew the outcome. The Lord can show his glory and power by using the wicked because he is still in control. Satan believes he hits the jackpot by making Job suffered but unintentionally served Gods plan because the book of Job helped comforted generations of christians who seek the Lord in times of trouble. That through times of trouble the Lord is always there. It also punches a hole in false teachers that preach heresy

God is a just and righteous God. He is not going to send a baby and children to hell especially the fact that they have no idea of salvation or God.
God's ways are not our ways, though. Noone knows the mind of God. Is that assumption based on human or divine reasoning?
This is why he hated child sacrifice and abuse.
Job's children weren't abused when Satan had them killed?
It doesnt matter what his children did to deserve to die it was about the message that this fallen world will take lives.
So you don't even have to do anything for God to allow horrific things just to prove a point. This is not a diety I would follow.

That's...better?

And yet he killed his family anyway. if this is the Christian version of justice, no thank you.

God wasn't there for Job's family.

I fail to see what's comforting about "God will allow Evil to take everything from you and you aren't allowed to question it.", but then again, I'm not Christian. I'm just someone who thinks like most people would when someone kills your loved ones to prove a point.

I see that you clearly don’t want to hear the word and ignore the part where I said the point of the book of Job was to teach us that suffering can happen to good people and to hold on to God despite circumstances. Yes you are right about Gods ways are not our ways which is why I showed you the scripture said by Jesus himself about his love for children other verses about the kingdom of heaven belonging to the children but you choose to willfully ignore that.

2) why do you keep bringing up Jobs children and wether or not if they were abused or deserved punishment when I keep telling you the point of the book was that bad things happened to good people. Throughout scripture righteous and innocent people have been abused and suffered. The Lord Jesus despite healing the sick and showing mercy was betrayed by his own people, babies and children were thrown in the fire to please false gods, prophets of God was hunted down and killed by jezebel, Abel being a good servant to God was killed by jealous brother Cain.

You blame God but fail to blame satan and human with our wicked ways. Don’t be offended on Jobs or his children behalf when they have moved on and will be reunited in the presence of God. The fact that he received blessings twice as before shows he was still in Gods favor. Your problem is that you see the life of the world as much more valuable than the gift of salvation and eternal security.

Yes. I do. But I don't see it as a problem. My life here is all I have, and I have to do with it what I can before it's over, not just pooh pooh it and say I have faith in something else past it. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong (please don't go into some Pascal's Wager thing, I'm not in the mood and won't address it).

But I'm not here to beat you over the head about it or insult like some fedora tipper, and you gave about as good and civil an apologetic as one could, so I'll drop the subject. Thank you for humoring it, few would even attempt to address it.

Okay but your life is not all you have. Jesus is all you have that can save you from this fallen state. He loves you deeply and lowered himself when he took on flesh and died for the sins of you and I. We all have sinned and falled short of the glory of God but he still shows mercy and desires to save us. There is an after life and the way humans, animals , and other things in and in this earth shows the evidence of an intelligent creator. The structure of the human body and system and the way we are designed to operate didnt just happen on its own. Anyways we dont gave to talk about this again but God loves you and his righteous right hand is there to hold you and his shoulder will be there for you to cry on. Thank you.

I would’ve thought they’d try & paint the pagan societies as innocent victims and claim that the vile acts they supposedly performed were cooked up entirely to justify such brutality against them. A really small number of them would probably defend the vile acts themselves.
