Didn't alchemy, the predecessor to chemistry, also get its start in the dark ages? Pretty sure it was also something that was popular with the religious crowd back then.

And this is where they really need to brush up on their history and get some perspective. The Middle Ages (a time Euphorics love to harp on as being religion-centered), started because of the collapse of the Roman Empire. Or, as you might want to put it the entire structure of civilization and society up to that point. It's really hard for us to imagine a decline in the structure of government like that, but it would be as if today every major government (US, UK, China, etc.) just closed up shop and let the people fend for themselves. Would it be chaos and anarchy, with power struggles by local bigwigs trying to grab a bigger piece of the pie? Yes, and that's exactly how it went down then, and it lasted for hundreds of years.

Christianity moved into the void (since it was the only structure large enough, old enough, and powerful enough to do so) and helped maintain some semblance of order. The church was a poor replacement for a governing empire, but it was all that was left. So to fault Christianity for "trying to control european society" or "trying to control science" is really divorced from the reality of the situation. Fact is, if it weren't for Christianity, Europe would have declined much faster and much farther after the fall of the Roman Empire. As it was, it took almost 1,000 years between the collapse of the empire and the establishment of the modern nation-state, which for all intents and purposes meant government had regained the level of sophistication it had pre-collapse.
Actually, the principles of logic reasoning, which are indispensible in modern mathematics and natural science, were refined during the middle ages. Catholic scholars of the medieval period were expert logicians. Starting from the work of Aristotle, they developed the method of logical argumentation and reasoning to a very high level -- in order to solve problems of theology and law. Modern mathematics, and by extension science, computers, robotics, etc. wouldn't be possible without the groundwork laid by the scholastics.

Also, some historians of technology date the industrial revolution in Europe back to the 10th century, when water mills and windmills were invented, and thus natural forces other than human or animal muscle power were first put to mechanical use in all manner or workshops, sawmills, etc. The middle ages saw remarkable advance in many areas of technology, which allowed to found cities and affluent urban societies even in the Baltic region of Europe which up to then had been inhabited only by barbarian tribes.

Hey. Covering the same dick swisher as last time. One particular shit post of his is so edgy, I'm surprised I haven't been de-skinned.

Then he goes to list some site links to where he got "An incomplete list of God’s murders, killings, infanticides and other crimes against humanity". Oh, it's just too much! Have a look at the full post for yourselves, if you dare.

OK, obviously the chart is a joke, but here's the thing that stood out to me: what exactly do they mean by "science"? Because if there's anything my history spergery has taught me, it's that different areas of practice advanced at different times and even went backwards. To say science was a straightforward upward slope from the Egyptians to the Greeks to the Romans is hilariously inaccurate.

Science to the euphorics means: anything that claims to know quantifiable truth, makes them feel smart, and fits into a whiggish view of history. Whiggish historiography argues that the history of the world can be seen as a progression of bad to good. If they don't flatly ignore/discount times when scientific understanding of the world went to dark places (the eugenics movements, "scientific" racism), then they see their expulsion from mainstream scientific acceptance as proof that science is self-correcting which, in turn, makes the whole thing feel authentic and unassailable.

There's also the weird belief that there's a schedule of scientific advancement, and that not only can one accurately plot if humanity as a whole is falling behind that timeline, but any such falling behind is the fault of religious belief and old-fashioned thinking.

This is the same kind of thinking that usually gets evolution wrong by assuming there's predetermined "levels" one has to evolve to, and that if you aren't moving ahead, you're holding the rest of us back. Naturally, evolution follows no such pre-set notion, it's about best fit for the current condition.

You see a lot of Euphorics holding that idea as well, that they represent the "next" evolution, when any GOOD scientist can tell you there is no such thing.

Story time: We had one of these guys in an IRC channel I visit a couple of weeks back, and the guy literally couldn't talk about anything besides atheism and how Christians (specifically, right-wing, white, american Christians) were the worst thing to ever exist. He also kept calling them 'xtians'.
When it was clear that nobody in the channel was putting up with his constant sperging, he went on a rant about how he expected the channel to be welcoming, not to be full of 'right-wing christians'.
He was shortly banned. Good for a laugh while it lasted though.

I’m surprised how seriously some of these guys take Bible Literalism, suggesting that it’s the only valid interpretation. I’ve heard some atheists say that everybody who doesn’t follow that book to the last word is a failed Christian and therefore a closet atheist.

Com’on dude, sounding like my grandmother is the biggest turnoff.

...Because Atheists are the best authorities on how to be Christian?

These Euphoric types are fueled by their own arrogance. They think they have intellectual authority on everything.
Uh huh. I had one very vocal encounter where the EA condemned the Catholic Church for "telling teenage girls to get pregnant and have lots of abortions".

Now... You can agree or disagree with the church as you will, but even a complete idiot knows that's NOT what that church teaches. But of course, they know better.

Yeah, I didn't want to get back in to this at least until after the reason rally, but some you just can't let slide.

One last thing is, I know I've sperged out about this guy before and I know now that I should stick to this thread for shit like this, but Kyle Kulinski, aka Secular Talk, is the most smug, annoying, arrogant euphoric you can come across. The amount of smugness and condescension in his videos is unparalleled. Far too many examples exist to list, so just go to his channel at your own risk.

I watched SecularTalk videos before. He's part of the TYT Network. He used to be alright but I heard he's fucked up plenty now.

"Religion, Corruption and Climate Change"

He doesn't know shit... the true menace are the Blue Meanies.

Found two more form DeviantART (of coarse). The first one is like that other douche I posted about, a super euphoric who can't make any thoughts for himself so he has to spread meme others made like that cancer it is and then fill the description with so much drable that it can make you sick.

The second one is a dude who thinks he's some kind of deep philosopher, but all he does is repost quotations from other people because, again, too euphoric to think for himself (how ironic).

Again, I don't want to go through to provide examples. Just take my word for it and have a look yourselves, if you dare.

Some of these Euphoric Atheist images are like one Minion away from basically being your grandma's Facebook posts.
