The gallileo thing is overstated too. Like half of his book was just insulting the Pope, who in those days was also a secular ruler of a place where free speech didn't exist. Of course he got in trouble.

Which was still wrong, but it's definitely overstated that it was some kind of anti-science persecution. It was nearly all politics and Galileo being a bit of a dick himself.

Think that's bad? A few years ago, a bunch of atheists freaked out when a Holocaust memorial wanted to display a Star of David. There aren't enough facepalms in the world for the idiocy of this.
(Yes, it's Salon, but I wanted to avoid the fundie websites, who foam at the mouth anytime they think someone has even hinted they might not be a Christian. Plus they have links to other articles.)

Also, the article itself is good, but the comments are awful.

One can argue other groups got screwed over in the Holocaust such as Poles, Russians, Christians, and homosexuals. Even then, the Holocaust decimated a good chunk of Jews. These people may as well seclude themselves to some safe-space if a religious Jewish symbol is being used at a Holocaust museum.

It's also constitutional bullshit. The Constitution does not prohibit any and all remotely religious references, symbols, or language from anything remotely connected to the government. What it prohibits is endorsement or encouragement of religion or the converse, or the promotion or encouragement of any particular denomination.
The Star of David in this context is no more an unconstitutional endorsement of religion or entanglement of the state in religious matters than the words "IN GOD WE TRUST" on money. Actually, "IN GOD WE TRUST," which has been upheld by the Supreme Court, is less defensible as there is no particular reason for it to be there. There is a very obvious secular reason for the Star of David on a Holocaust memorial.
Not that any of this should have to be explained, but euphoria, man.

It's absolutely important to not forget about the other victims of the Holocaust, because millions of Gypsies, Poles, Catholics/Protestants, disabled people, gay people, etc were also slaughtered. But the thing these people seem to forget is that the Holocaust was specifically aimed at annihilating the Jews. People in the comments of the article actually had the gall to say things like "Well, Jews were only half of who died" and "Hitler wanted to kill everyone, Jews weren't special."
The Holocaust and the events leading up to it are known as the Final Solution, because they were proposed as "the final solution to the Jewish Question." Like, I can't believe people are actually salty that Jews get a disproportionate amount of attention in the Holocaust when it was literally designed to annihilate Judaism.

hilarious that Wikipedia is apparently his first choice when it comes to citing a credible source. Like it's literally a website that can be edited by just about anyone and you can say anything as long as you're someone that the mods trust or just generally like in some way. Say what you want about Christianity, but at the very least the Bible is a source that's almost never had any sort of editing in its 2000 years of existence, and is a prime source for information regarding its respective religion. This guy is just being an ignorant cunt here, he's so obsessed with his arrogant beliefs that he refuses to acknowledge anything positive about the opposing side and instead prefers to demonize them to inflate his own ego by making it seem like he's part of the obviously superior side. Perfect display of the horseshoe theory in action, my fellow spergs and spergettes.

To be fair, I don't think the current Bible mentions Lilith - aka Adam's first wife - and that part of the story is only in the Talmud, but I doubt he knew that.

There's one comment where a euphoric asks Christians if there should be out lynching gays. I've seen this lots of times before. It's almost as if they want us to do shit like that.
I also remember seeing this one comment from a euphoric saying that atheists are hated for no reason. News flash shithead. People end up hating atheists because all we ever see from them is a hive of no-life griefers who can't just fuck off and leave people alone.

I think the problem is the same as with any large group - the people who just do their own thing are off doing their own thing and not getting any attention for it, while the ones like the Amazing Atheist are... well, you know.
