Usually I see this sort of response by atheists after some sort of tragedy such as a school shooting, implying that the proper response would be activism to change the law in some way.

Of course, this completely ignores the fact that the tragedy has already occured and that those who give thoughts and prayers would much rather direct sympathy towards the family of the victim(s) rather than yell about gun control or whatever.
Much as thoughts and prayers can end up being nothing more than empty words, there are those that do genuinely give out their sympathy in the wake of tragedies. Best way to sum it up is as this: at best, you're just giving sympathies to those affected by it, at worst you're just giving lip service that could not be genuine.

That image just reeks of being nothing more than the sort of facebook memes people would spam. If a religious guy were mad , it'd be less of "saving lives" and more of either the guys a dick or the person the religious guy is angry at is being a dick.

Religion equaling disease as written by someone who has malfunctioning brain meat. How lovely.
If religion is truly a disease, a good chunk of the world would be considered disease and would require quarantine. What's more likely to be true is that religion is simply the sort of thing that makes euphorics REEEEEE.

So let me get this straight: I'm an open Christian who believes in loving my neighbor and forgiving my enemies because it's a command of my faith, and that makes me diseased.

Okay, fine, I'm a disease vector.

That said, what does that say about "healthy" people?

Irrational insistence on the nonexistence of a deity in the utter absence of any conclusive evidence is as unreasonable as insistence in the other direction. I am what I would call a hard agnostic. I don't know, and you don't either.

Thoughts and prayers is just like saying "I'm sorry," when somebody tells you a relative of their's died or something. It roughly means "I don't know exactly what to say, but I sympathise with your situation and hope it gets better," it's one of those little things people say day to day in social interaction.

Atheist Logic sounds sociopathic with cheering ISIL for beheading Christians but then that also has one wondering if that has to just be someone whose messing around and screwing with people. And the "leave your religion or share responsibility for its crimes" does well in using the guilt by association method.

But that's wrong, you fucking retard. Only about 5% of ALS cases are traceable to genetics. The rest are unexplained, and it could be completely spontaneous.

I'm suspecting Poe, but it's actually fairly difficult to get such fractal wrongness on purpose.

FTFY.

One of the big reasons I got annoyed with the euphoric community even back when I was a teenager is entirely because of the awful double standards they often had about religion. Case in point: they often tend to play softball with Islam and pretty much every other religion barring Christianity. A winning moment I've talked about before on the site was when a Euphoric kept trying to tell a buddy of mine how his religion was wrong, and then immediately turned face when he pretended for a period of time he was actually a Muslim.

Seriously, if you're going to say all religion is trash, do it and at least be consistent on that. Otherwise, you're just proving you're a hypocrite who's essentially doing a FUCK YOU DAD AND MOM moment.

The neckbeard is actually wrong, too. Actual biblical scholars and historians believe Jesus (the human, not the divine being) existed.
They're also extremely foolish in dismissing the Bible as a source of fact. Although it is FAR from an ideal history book, for some cultures and events, it is the only source available... and when dealing with ancient history, one imperfect and biased source is way better than no source at all.

That one is lulzy because I seem to recall its biggest proponent is a lolcow here; Richard Carrier (who has a thread here btw) is one of several idiots who tried making this a popular idea because REEE NO GODS ONLY MAN... except you Muhammad pls no call me white male...

Fun fact: Ancient historians hold the Bible in very high regard because it's one of the very few primary historical documents that talks about what the life of an average person living under the Roman Empire was like.

The Friendly Neighborhood Atheist Community forum is run through Steam and helmed by a hoarder that goes by the name of Steph and her strangely euphoric moderation team.

At first glance this group is nothing special. Just another steam user whoring for attention on the level of the likes of the Captain Froggy. https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198003030375/ (unrelated but interesting)

But one click to the discussions and you get a nice fresh burst of euphoria.

Lots of pinned threads on interesting topics.

and moderation that would make Resetera blush. As well as euphoria and sophistry that would put TheAmazingAtheist to shame.

And a colorful cast of crazies.

Can you imagine the reeee'ing if someone turned their sophistry and bad faith (heh) arguing back on them?

"Sorry, I don't talk to atheists, every one I've met keeps ranting about how we should legalize rape, incest, necrophilia and bestiality because life has no meaning. That makes me uncomfortable."

The only problem is that regular people would get caught in the crossfire.
