In the pre-Common Core days, I was learning a good deal of American hsitory even before going into junior high. I recall it being world history during 7th and/or 8th grade, then having specific social studies classes in high school of different topics like current events, government or WWII.
Elementary tended to skimp out on Social Studies, even before Common Core was a thing. The main reason is that again there was always a heavier emphasis on LA and Math over Science and Social Studies, so much so that there's a reason why as a kid you often swapped science lessons with social studies one in the k-5 period... if you even had enough time left that day to do it. It just got worse due to the new added federal mandates that coincide with the state curriculum. A great teacher took advantage of connections between the content so they could effectively still cover what they needed in spite of it (if you're creative enough you can splice anything), but not all teachers are great in that field.

I'll upfront state I learned more on history via self-study than by any teacher in that field until at best the 6th grade.

The Quran is also as flawed as the Bible, also containing horrid things like massacre, genocide, regressive law, and sex perversion.
I disagree with you on this point, because, in many ways, the Qur'an is actually worse than the Bible. Think about the unabrogated, eternal edicts of Allah to kill all infidels, as compared to the very limited and time-specific command of Yahweh to kill the original people of the "Promised Land".

Have you read through the Leviticus laws in full? Because quite a few of them are absolutely hideous; my favorite being that you automatically get a wife by raping her in the countryside. Just pay the dad 30 shekels and you're good. I also like the tale of the Canaanite woman who pleads Jesus to heal her child, he refuses at first, and she gets him to do it by comparing herself and the non-chosen people as dogs.

Following every element of your holy book as it is written is hideous no matter what.

Yes there are those. But even then, rape is never considered good in the Bible, and (as you yourself said) Jesus eventually heals the Canaanite woman anyway, while continuing to preach to Gentiles. Jesus's comment was clearly of a deeper meaning than blunt racism.

And, again, there are no commands in the Bible to make perpetual physical war against nonbelievers.

I guess I must've had it better in the 80's when I had all these subjects to grind away my grade school days on in the district I went to.

Or you had a teacher who was smart and spliced in Social Studies with ELA, or maybe since they didn't pile on as much ELA shit into the curriculum they actually had time to teach both Social Studies and Science rather than have the hotbunked like now in Elementary.

I'm just going to take this as rationalization and apologia honestly, since I can go into the character assassination of the Jew's rivals in Caanan by calling them dishonest rapey inbreds, I can go into how they glorify genocide by describing how they murder everyone and take the women and young girls as wives, and let's not forget how you can murder your own children if they disobey you.

It's cool you believe, but honestly trying to pretend that your specific book is better than another falls flat. The main thing you have is that like most Christians in the western world; you don't put full stock in the awful shit and only try to rationalize the book to modern mores rather than murder me for apostasy, while a lot of Muslims would thanks to the events I described like a page ago.

What I rememberer is having art, music and gym on different days of the week in elementary school, I don't recall ELA at all.

Oh, I'm not a Jew or Christian, but an agnostic (a)theist. I just find it dishonest to claim that the Tanakh and the Qur'an are on the same moral footing when they're clearly not.

Neither of us have any real idea of Canaanite morality outside he Hebrew Bible, so none of us can tell for certain whether the Torah's assessment of them were true or not. Then again, they were also described as sacrificing children to Moloch and Ba'al, which is evidenced by historical and archaeological research, so I'm not sure that they were really good people.

The Genocide of the Canaanites obviously was terrible, so I won't get into that.

Dishonouring parents by striking or cursing them was punishable by death, not simple disobedience, which was corrected generally via beatings.

The vast majority of Leviticus "laws" were not context-independent commands, but context-dependent applications. Otherwise none of the laws concerning the temple would make sense in modern times.

Morals change. In 50 to 100 years from now, we will be considered the backwards ones for things we couldn't even see coming

Atheists are the most untrusted and hated minority in America, among other countries, but they can't seem to figure out why when they have shit like this representing them.

Do they want to be hated or something?

A good way to know if a degree holder is retarded or not is if they go around demanding their degree be respected outside of an academic setting.

This behavior has been a thing since the beginning of time, most notably with religions oddly enough. People get "woke" and use it to look down on people. The early evangelicals of the 18th century were especially insufferable but at least they got slavery banned.

"I don't hate you or your religion, but you're dumb and worship a cocksucker."

The power of reason, people. Right here.
