Just checked the U.S. Copyright office site, there is no copyright for anything related to Yandere Simulator. Even the name.
So I know I'm responding to a now ancient post, but I'm a bit surprised still to this day no one has just blatantly ripped off the game and released something on their own.

Without copyright protection, pretty much anyone could copy anything from the game and then release it themselves.

Copyright laws are a little more nuanced. Your work is technically protected the moment you create it, whether or not you register an official copyright. If someone were to directly take Alex's game and file a copyright for it, Alex could easily prove he came up with it first by pointing to all the videos from several years back showing the game.

Someone could theoretically take the game and use it as a building base to create their own distinct game and then copyright that, but given how much of a mess the game currently is, it'd probably take longer than just building a new game entirely. Someone can (and has) also take the basic idea and make their own game around it. Whatever anyone took is also still available for free from Alex, so it's not like you could just rename it and suddenly expect to sell a bunch of copies. You'd do just as well as any of the hackjob games on Steam.

Do people seriously care about the ages of fictional characters?
The embarrassing thing with Alex is that he seems to try to please both sides even though he clearly is leaning towards one. For instance you've got the huniepop guy just being honest about being a degenerate weeb who doesn't care that there's racist stereotypes in his game and he just sticks to what he believes in. Meanwhile alex is clearly into the whole 16 year old school girl with massive tits trope yet pretends to care about the image of his game so he does the "They're totally 18 you guys" thing and asks people if the panties should be censored while at the same time showing that he doesn't want the panties censored and that he wants a 'sex license' instead of the age of consent.

Do people seriously care about the ages of fictional characters?

I'm not sure if it was the UK or Australia, but at least one person was found guilty of pedophilia for possessing sexual depictions of fictional children. Legally speaking what Alex is doing makes sense, given that he lives in California where the AoC is 18 and I don't think there's any American case law clearly deciding whether fictional characters are exempt from pedophilia laws (unlike in Japan, where they make the controversial decision of deciding that ink on paper has no human rights).

The funny thing is that if he moved to Nevada, where the AoC is 16, he wouldn't even need such a disclaimer. If the third year students are 18, then the youngest students in the school can be presumed to be 16. Even under the most unfavorable legislation Alex would be off the hook (though given that the video game medium transcends state borders and even national borders, I honestly don't know under what legislation this would fall if any at all).

Remember when people compare Dan Salvato (developer of DDLC) with Alex? Both DDLC and Yandere Simulator take place in a high school setting (aka the characters are implied to be underaged). Both developers did even say the characters are 18(+ for Yandere Simulator) too:

Problem is I don't recall DDLC having a collaboration with some hentai game (yet) while Alex just uses the "characters are 18+" excuse to promote his porn game and even doubles down on it as well as rambling on about how they want to relive high school or something (????) to make it sound too forceful as an attempt to show they are clearly at least 18 years old.

It doesn't help that Alex is being creepy about it. Not sure if his targeted audience with similar interests would even dare to touch his game. At least he could target the game to KiA/KiA's ResetERA (KiA2) but I doubt even they'd support him now in his current state but might as well leave these old classic ones here before he gets the hot controversies:

So I was looking at the new update for yandere sim and this one new update annoyed me.
update.PNG

WHY IS THIS A THING! He is using his time to implement something that doesn't have to exist and he is taking time away from working on Osana to do stuff like this.
There is several things wrong with this. One: he is wasting time Two: the main character (according to the Yandere Chan wiki https://muc.fandom.com/wiki/Yandere-chan )
is 17. So the build is called "The Alphabet killer Challenge Build" (The link to the blog page is https://yanderedev.wordpress.com/2020/04/04/the-alphabet-killer-challenge-build/)
So the thing that annoys me about this update is this.
yanderesimupdate.PNG

Okay so to start off I'm going to talk about the snap mode feature. This feature shouldn't of been added at this stage the only thing he should be doing at this stage in development is getting Osana out even if she's in a buggy state he should just get a build with her in it then add these features in later before releasing the demo and the "just for fun " feature is unneeded and the only reason someone would do this challenge would be because they are bored of the game and wanted something to do with it this is a problem Alex could easily fix by releasing more content heavy updates instead of tiny bug fixes and most of the code is written without Osana in the game which means adding her could cause bugs so there is no point of him doing the bug fixes until Osana is in the game and taking the time to add features for these challenges takes time away from him working on Osana which means more challenges are created then he makes them easier then less work is being done on Osana which creates a cycle that ultimately takes time away from Osana and delays the demo from releasing which then delays the games full release. It's things like this that makes people believe that Yandere Simulator will never be released.

You're making a good point here. Let's presume that it's an absolute fact that all the girls in DDLC are underage in most Western jurisdictions, let's say they're 14 or something. What exactly would that even change? At no point does the game have any deliberately sexual themes like pantyshots or whatever.

It might put some more people off due to how brutal the deaths of Sayori and , especially, Yuri are. Though with that said, even if DDLC was as sexualised as yansim people would be more ok with it for two clear reasons.

One, it would probably be better written in the story. Hell, you see hints of sexualisation with Yuri sucking on your pen. Plus the sexualisation of ambiguously aged characters will enhance the feeling of uncomfort the game is going for. Yansim has panty shots because ayano is suposed to be "amoral". Though that doesn't work unless she is selling them online. Even then there are other ways to make Ayano feel amoral. The panty idea could work if the underwear was not shown to us, instead it was done in a cutscene, or 3rd animation move. (Edit: aka where the player cannot see them).

Two, Dan is less public than Alex. His name wasn't in the public eye. His game was basically unknown until it released. Most importantly, he was not being a "quirky" (sort of) creepy guy on stream. All these do not apply to Alex, which makes yansim feel more fetishistic. Fetish games are, in general, weird on their own. Adding characters of questionable age makes it go from weird to concerning to most people.

Exactly, DDLC was your standard High School Visual Novel with a horror twist. YanSim. at this point is clearly a fetish game.

This is so funny.

At the beginning of the video you can see how Jay isn't even amused by the changes Alex clearly made for him lmao, his voice lacks so much excitement it's actually surprising. Even some of the comments are addressing how this build was made for Jay and how kind Dev is to do it... while Jay is probably thinking that it's a waste of time and wishes the game was completed at once. Alex never learns.

Yeah, I just watched it too. The easter egg at this point is insulting, and even Jay didn't really seem that amused with it. What it effectively does is spit in the face of the people who have been waiting for Osana for so long. I'm glad that I stopped caring about the game per se, now I'm just in it to see it crash and burn.

Is YS keeping Jay's channel alive? Is that why he still makes these videos? He's clearly unsatisfied with this.

Seriously, who the fuck is still giving him money? I doubt that his largely preteen audience would donate a dollar every month, and his teenaged fans probably are splurging that much chore money on him either. Are there really enough cleavelandrocks in his fanbase to give him 2000+ out of their collective disposable income?

On the bright side, he'll probably reach <2k monthly before page 2000. How low does it have to go before we get Hate and Shame 2?

If you want to understand how Mahan gets money on his Patreon, just look at Star Citizen.

The head honcho of that game is scamming $50 M a year to make the "Best Damn Space Sim Ever" based on ridiculous marketing about ~10k person shards with a full space universe in a "high fidelity" first person environment.

And yet after ~8 year of development and $250 M expenses (not all of which went towards development) all they have is a super buggy, non persistent multiplayer tech demo that can barely handle ~40 players in one POI.

I don't think so, even though his YS vids do have a lot more views compared to his regular ones, his "true" story animation reactions and horror games playthroughs are also very popular. Still, Jay probably feels obliged to play the game and can't say anything about it because of the heavy backlash he would get.

This aside, I've seen lots discuss snap mode, but let's remember that the new update also added a "lingerie store".
1586112108533.png

Yeah, because clearly high-school students would be allowed to buy lingerie.

im pretty sure she wrote that she masturbated with it lmao
That just proves my point. If Alex had made DDLC, you would have seen her masturbate with it. Instead it is told to the player, which gets to the point without making it come off as creepy fetish shit. The fact that I forgot about shows that the scene was made to disturb the player rather than pleasure the author.
Case and point, the earlier builds had you go into the bathroom to wipe blood off yourself. The only thing covering you was smoke clouds. In the newer build that got replaced with a towel. This would be ok if the students were unquestionalbly adults. They are not. A more elegant solution would be to either make the player wipe themselves using paper towels or to make the process of going into the locker to change clothes wipe the blood off the model.
