To be fair, the main purpose of SNAP mode is just to kill your lover. Even though it adds challenge for other students to not freeze, the challenge for killing as many as possible is wasted since it's optional and you don't even need to do it.
Still feels weird that all students freeze in place which even by Yandere Simulator standards, it doesn't make sense, and even I would personally find it more fun to see students running away quickly if there's a mass murderer nearby. Imagine playing Hatred with literally everyone else is standing there. It might be fun to kill them for the first few minutes, but it'd get boring and you'd want to focus on the main objective.
.... Maybe this is the entire point? Focusing on the main objective aka killing your lover? Think this is giving Alex too much credit.
Honestly it would make sense if, at least in this scenario, they stayed still until you killed someone, otherwise they're looking at you in a creeped out, "what is she doing" kind of way. Then run and hide once you have killed someone. It would be neat if everything went in slow motion around Ayano too, except for the kills.
And let's be honest, the whole concept of SNAP mode is edgy. Though I don't care for the thing with the cops, it's not a bad concept for a yandere type of character.
