I will take "character and backstory inconsistency" for 200, Eva.

This may have been mentioned before, but I'm not digging through 700+ pages to find out.
I don't know how mental health diagnostics work in anime land Japan, but if her parents took her to a doctor for her issues in the States, she would have been diagnosed with sociopathy/antisocial personality disorder and immediately been ushered into therapy, since you actually can teach APD children to be less shitty than if they go untreated. You know, general jerk kind of stuff instead of killing kittens for kicks :optimistic:

I don't know if this has changed recently, but generally Japanese people try to avoid going to the doctor as much as they possibly can. They hate 'asking for help' and thus 'owing a favor for helping'. It's a big part of why hikkikomoris (if I spelled that right) or NEETs exist - they'd rather take the burden than ask for help since it basically means they were 'weak enough to need help' and having an image like that is pretty big. It's better to have a useless son or daughter than it is to have a public shame like that.
(EDIT: The story of DENKO is somewhat related albeit long - this guy is a stalkerish NEET whose brother is apparently famous, and he mentions that he's basically kept secret so as to not shame his brother. Any shame of the individual actually affects the family, too.)

I don't know how they'd react to Ayano, but I assume they'd definitely diagnose her but then she'd have the social stigma of being mentally ill, and that's worse than everything ever. Apparently. It is the country where highschool girls would commit suicide over a rumor being spread that she was raped, or over being bullied and refusing to tell anyone about it because it means you're burdening the person you're telling and admitting that you can't do anything about it yourself.

Did any of that strike you as inspiration for murder methods in YanSim? Too bad he's too shitty to think of it himself or even implement it.

Thank you for providing more background.

Actually, that makes the video about Ayano's childhood even more bizarre. If Japan's got that deep of a cultural stigma against asking for help/doctors/mental health issues, then that means Ayano's parents recognized there was something incredibly wrong with her right out the gate that couldn't be fixed by just having her tough it out. Not that Eva would ever think this deeply about the subject, but it implies that her parents were willing to risk the disgrace, public shame, and bullying of their only daughter because she needed the help that badly. That sounds like dire straights to me.

Granted, none of this would've happened if they had stuck with the original backstory of her being good at acting normal, especially given her mother was the same. It would've been played off to her father as normal kid stuff rather than a problem (hell, if this were irl Japan, he'd probably be an overworked businessman and never notice).

Honestly, those would be excellent murder methods if this game's writing was in almost anyone else's hands.

It's very doubtful that Alex would think that far ahead, especially considering the fact that Alex has confirmed that Ayano's father has tried to go to doctors to get help for her. The reasoning is incredibly stupid, and he's trying to suggest that a 1-3 year old has developed enough to be self aware, and know what to do to stop the doctor visits.
And of course, he decides to start the kitten killing bs again, despite the fact that the reasoning for using the corpse of an animal will not work in covering up a human corpse, because the chemical compounds from decomposition are completely different, and a dog trained to search for bodies would be trained to find the compound released exclusively by a human corpse.
Once again, Alex doesn't do proper research because edge and breasts are top priority.

Agreed. Hopefully Alex meant she started doing this when she was a bit older, not a literal baby. Like, I can see maybe a six or seven-year-old realizing "Hey, if I do this thing Dad wants me to do he'll stop bugging me with these annoying trips where all they do is say 'something's wrong with you'", but not a baby/toddler. But knowing Alex, Ayano would probably be crazily super-smart genius psycho by age 2 that can manipulate adults because she's "just that special" and also "aiSHI BLOODLINE".

Someone on the reddit, made a few good points about the senpai character, but once again Alex can't help but be his usual idiot self.

Long rant ahead

There's so much wrong with his arguments; this idiot contradicts himself, and expects people to take him seriously?
"I wouldn't say it's a "diaster". Ayano is an obsessive psychopathic stalker, and Senpai is her victim. There is no romance. It makes sense that Senpai is freaked out and frightened by her bizarre, disturbing behavior."

This wouldn't be so stupid, if the person he's replying to didn't make some decent points about how unnatural it is for Taro to become freaked out so quickly when it's been established that he's such a nice caring guy, and puts up with a lot worse from Osana being physically/verbally abusive, and his little sister being clingy and incredibly needy. Not to mention she's no weirder/worse than the other rivals, like Oka, the girl who stalks a pair of sisters for a stupid reason.

If Alex was competant, then he would change it to have Taro be a little confused at first, and thinking 'Why is this girl terrified of me? Did I do something to hurt her." and gradually become more unsettled, instead of flipping out so easily.

"This was intentional, but I understand that it may make the game far less fun. If it makes the game less fun, then it should be reconsidered.

In theory, the player should want to help bring Ayano and Taro together. Having Taro be an obstacle to getting him and Ayano together completely contradicts the main goal and makes the goal of getting him and Ayano together needlessly difficult. Hell, this wouldn't be a problem if Ayano didn't have the "let me have a chance to win his (Taro's) heart." line.

TL;Dr- Alex is still incompetent, and is too stupid and proud to realize how flawed the Senpai character's lack of interaction is.

Couldn't agree more. The goal of the game is to delete anything that gets in the way of getting "Senpai", and to make him WANT you. But at this rate, He's an unlikable character who is a bland harem protagonist and no one likes those at all, therefore the player has no motivation to even want Senpai. All they want to do is kill the rivals at this point, making him a likable character with an actual personality and relevance to the plot besides just standing in the middle of all these crazy bitches would make the game more interesting for sure even if the player doesn't love him like Ayano they would like him a bit more.

Which is funny as this has been an taboo topic when it comes to the yandere genre, everyone likes the yandere more than the Senpai, and same could be said for Alex's fanbase. Even though Ayano is a horrible character and not doing the trope justice they still find her more likable than him.

I'unno, if he wanted to make FetishSim a serious-game and more original maybe make the Senpai likable for a change? Instead of being some wuss, why not make him a generally nice guy who respects people around him and not some ass who reads and only says "um" "okay" "yes" "*screams like a little girl*"

Never gonna happen though.

I think this is the crystallization of many of Alex's different flaws: he really doesn't understand why a girl/woman would be attracted to someone. In his Gaia post where he complains that women aren't interested in him, he's very quick to blame it on something wrong with his face, despite the fact that he starts by saying that people have called him creepy. Given what we've read of his rants about women on that old forum, I'm pretty sure he has only his personality and views to blame.

But instead of dealing with that, he preserves his ego by adopting a fantasy idea of how love or attraction works. I suspect that on some level, he believes that all attraction is like Ayano's: magical love at first sight. Because if that's how love works, then he can just keep feeling unlucky that people find him creepy instead of reflecting on himself. So we will never see Ayano care about Senpai because he has any attractive qualities, Alex can't write that.

What really irritates me is that other game developers have tried to take the yandere trope and fix some of these problems. Give the yandere an actual reason to like a non-generic senpai, take the psychological side seriously, make the pairing somewhat believable, etc. But their games get mostly ignored, while Alex just keeps raking in Patreon and YouTube money.

That's ultimately what brings me back to this thread. Alex has been making a lot of money on this game for over two years now. Most other devs, even inexperienced ones, would use such good fortune as an opportunity to improve and share their ideas with the world. Instead, Alex just basks in his e-celebrity status and keeps recycling tropes and memes. I'd like to believe that his fanbase will wise up, but I'm not that optimistic. The only one who can derail this hype train is Alex via his own incompetence. It may take forever to happen, but I want to watch the train wreck when it does.

Aishi bloodline really ruined everything. It should have just been about a normal girl who gets unhinged when other girls are interested in her Senpai. It's so stupid and edgy. But it's perfect for the twelvie fanbase who still think a plot like this is cool. A toddler isn't going to be able to manipulate her parents that much. At that age as soon as something doesn't work out (like trying to get a new toy or an extra cookie) kids resort to throwing themselves on the floor and screaming. So the normal behavior of a toddler who doesn't want to see a doctor is going to end the same way. At that age you don't have the capacity to pull off that kind of trickery.

You can always recognize Yansim fans on YouTube by the Undertale/pony avatars.
also the people who name themselves after the characters and pretend to be them. they're everywhere, man. they're everywhere and they're fucking annoying. like "ayano aishi" will comment on some random edgy video and be like "ooo dun touch my senpai or i stab u! hehehe *laughs evilly* xd" i know it's not necessarily alex's fault but it needs to stop :(

I dunno, I think it's fun when an Adolf Hitler or two pops up
it's only fun when it's certain people, but when it's edgelords like alex's fans
