I’ve always thought that people who were interested in this game were weird as fuck.

Why would you wanna play an anime game where you’re an underage, rapey stalker who wants to stalk and rape a young man to the point where you’d meticulously plan out murder-suicide on other underage girls. This is your power fantasy?

Say nothing of the man who’d spend a decade engulfed in nothing but that and the kind of people who enjoy it. This was inevitable.

Teenagers and weabs, teenagers think they're more adult then they are and also want a game about school that's catered to their interests and let's them live out a power fantasy. On the other hand, weabs enjoy the setting and the anime aesthetic, and are completely desensitised to the idea of taking panty pictures of teenagers before killing them.

To be fair, some of the gameplay ideas didn't sound too bad. A single environment that gradually changed and adapted to your previous kills, aswell as people becoming more on guard and alert if you were sloppy or incompetent with your kills would honestly be pretty engaging, it's just the weird, non self-aware setting and the even weirder developer who never worked meant that it would never really amount to anything more then a weird community of weabs and teenagers.

Hitman: Blood Money made a stab at this with the notoriety system to no real engaging effect, but the idea is one I'd love to see done in a persistent 'one area' game. Reminds me of how cool the 'legacy' series of board games are.

Unless I'm mistaken, majority of the game's fanbase were always horny teenagers and people who grew up from horny teenagers to porn addicted weebs. Tbh in comparison to all the sick shit in anime/weeb media, Yandere Simluator is rather mild.

Alex actually had a lot of good ideas. Its just that creating a game of this scope was beyond his technical capability. Ironically, if he had simply sold or given the IP to a more capable indie developer, it might have actually gone somewhere.

A Yandere is horror archetype, kind of a Japanese urban myth. It's a longstanding trope when a young, innocent looking girl or woman who seems normal or even shy starts acting like an inhuman monster.

The hook of the game, as I saw it, was it's less about the underage aspect and more about playing off the idea that a young girl could have such a toxic infatuation with somebody that they would think nothing of killing other girls to get him. As a 'roleplaying the villain' game, there's lot of black comedy potential with interacting with these teenage high-schoolers who are all engaged in more high crimes than your average mafia. That's why everyone liked the idea a decade ago. That's presumably the only reason he has volunteers willing to stick it out for ten years.

This would be a REALLY simple game for a Japanese developer to make, but I guess YandreDev couldn't handle all the exotic anime he had to work with and got a coom overdose.

Sweet Jesus is this girl desperate for attention. I was already suspecting this but this is just convincing me more and more that all of her actions throughout this have just been for attention. Her fixation just shifted from Alex, to drama YouTubers, back to Alex plus his autistic fanbase.

She not only recorded multiple voice chats and Snapchat conversations, but willingly handed them over to a YouTuber (one of which was apparently even sent after Alex had convinced her to back down). Then she suddenly goes into battered wife mode and runs back to Alex and his hugbox. And now she's sperging out in the Discord, telling people to stop talking about the drama while she casually begs them to talk to her about it. I wouldn't be shocked if she flips again in a few days so she can pull the double victim card of "he forced me to back down."

Anyway, gotta love the North Korean Discord being even more ridiculous than ever before lmao
