Well, I suppose this is more or less a lose/lose for ol' Mahan. There's actually something to be said for this- if you hang around the reddits for a bit, and the victim herself was like 9 *when they started playing. this video https://youtu.be/e9CMyaJc6I0 has some stats the dev took himself and the audience was like 80 percent underage and half female. Jelly seems to have internalized the message of the game and a bunch of threads on r/osana seems to indicate this game did do some damage to girls who got obsessed with it. (Also that reddit is chock full of children who also are participating on some very sexual subreddits themselves.)
So I'm not trying to be Jack Thompson but like there may be some evidence that this 17+ game got itself a huge underaged female fandom and like im not calling out all anime or all games or that but man Yandere Sim's audience looks worse and worse the more you look into it.

In general, Alex was trying to make an edgelord game that game devs were too cowardly to make, while also doing design by committee with 4chan/other online circles. When Rockstar is working on GTA, it's a game they believe in and want to make. At the end of the day, Alex didn't really give a shit about most of Yansim. There are certain elements he latched onto, but it really seemed like it was more of the narrative, while 4chan and everyone else was arguably more excited about the gampley elements. Especially the social manipulation side of things and having to cover your tracks. I think what most people wanted was a social sim Hitman style game, where the mission just doesn't end when you hit the extraction point and stealth isn't just about using physical disguises and sneaking past people's visions, but by socially blending in and creating the perfect crime scene.

But Alex just fixated on Yandere genes and LARP highschools and other stupid BS. In comparison, look at Lunar Scythe (or whatever it was called) now that's the game Alex actually wanted to make, but he attached himself too much to Yansim.
