Apparently someone leaked the discord logs of the person that's 3d modeling kizana's hairs (apparently yandere dev has decided to go with the idea of her having different options of her hair each day) that apparently kizana won't come out until next year
If that's true then so much for the recent "It'll only take a couple of months per rival from now on" that was so recently posted.

May 15 bug fixing build (archive) This is a big one so I'm putting it in quotes.
It's been 2 weeks since Amai's release and he's releasing an update with 72 bug fixes. :story:
  • When a mind-broken slave stabs their throat and blood shoots out, and the player is standing sufficiently close, it’s supposed to get the player bloody. However, if the mind-broken slave stabbed their throat specifically because they had failed to kill Raibaru, the blood wouldn’t get the player bloody. This bug has been fixed.
How does this even happen lmao, God damn the spaghetti code will never fail to amaze me.

I love how once it's been pointed out Alex sorts his bug fixes by length, you can never unsee it.

Yandere Dev has updated his "progress" message.

There is also a new checklist for him to complete before he works on Kizana.

Imaging putting this much effort into making someone else's game for free. Its one thing for a random to make one or two things for a thing they like, but its another for some dude to commit to working on shit for a year like this. There are so many possible projects that would be so much better for both learning, reputation, portfolio, and giving to a community compared to Yansim, and yet they insist. Fascinating stuff.

And in classic Alex fashion, the development blocking priority #1 change is getting fucking voice acting and animations fully completed and polished and actually finishing the previous rival gameplay wise is prioritized as "that'd be cool but probably later". Never change.

As amusing as watching a train wreck is seeing an honest redemption story after acknowledging and fixing one's mistakes leading to eventual success is always preferable.
Lol, no, he can rot in hell. No release of some shitty abandonware will change the fact that he bullied a person into canceling their own game and that he is a creepy pedo incel.

I don't know what the hell Ayano and the rivals see in this douchebag.
IRC his reasoning for rejecting where is Osana wasn't any better. I'd have to ask if there are other ways to eliminate Amai though. I am sure there is not, but still.

We here in the farms know his design is fundamentally flawed enough
It doesn't matter. Even if he releases it with every bug ironed out, the shit looks like something straight from Steam Greenlight era. Because this is what it actually is, up to the name itself.

Well, at least they will learn to be more picky about their projects. Hard way.

I literally cannot imagine anyone still wanting to work with Alex after he got launched into normie consciousness as a pedo and just a turbo shitty developer.

I think back in the day people sort of wanted to be associated with YS because it was popular and Alex's status as a lolcow wasn't widely known. That, and a lot of the volunteers were teenage fans who happened to have some skills, I guess. I can only assume that this Tomu person is a long-time fan?

By the way, I am really surprised he kept his promise to remove voice acting after all those shitty henti fandub tier "voice actors" left. I fully expected him to just hire his teenage fans to do the job, because in the past he bragged about how much more professional YS was with voice acting, even if people were rightfully telling him to keep the dialogue boxes. I remember that at one point Alex admitted that the voice acting was super time consuming because he was a massive pedant and would have a neverending back and forth with the actors to get the lines to be exactly how he wanted. IDK what he was expecting from the caliber of poeple he employed, the voice acting was just awful. Good ridddance.

At this point in time this basically means an adult, so I highly doubt that.

This is literally how he "works" on everything else. Guess, he has to throw it away too to finally finish the game.

May 17 bug fixing build (archive) This one isn't a long one but I'll put it in quotes anyways.
Hello! The previous build didn’t have any critical game-breaking bugs, but it did have one really bad-looking visual bug, so I’m releasing a new build with that issue resolved (along with some other additions and fixes).

To read a list of everything that was improved in the latest build, scroll down past this cute artwork of Amai and Shoku enjoying a meal together drawn by gwaeminseo1234!

Improvements

  • When the player studied in the library to pass time, students would not move, even though time was passing. The player could exploit this. From now on, students will move to their destinations whenever the player uses the “study in the library to pass time” feature.
  • Both of Info-chan’s “Provide Rival’s Secret” services will now get more expensive with each passing week. (For example, buying Osana’s dark secret costs 10 Info Points, but buying Amai’s dark secret costs 20 Info Points.)
  • In a previous build, I attempted to update the Cooking Club’s kerchiefs, but the textures didn’t change. I can confirm that, this time, the textures have actually been updated.
  • Kizana now wears unique clothing in the “Senpai meets Kizana” cutscene, instead of Kizana wearing a palette-swapped version of Amai’s casual clothing.
  • Improved the texture for the recipe that the player has to sabotage on Wednesday Week 2.
  • Updated 1980s and 202X student portraits.

Fixes

  • If the player sabotaged a stove to explode, saved their game, and then loaded that save, the game would not remember that the stove had been sabotaged. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player saved the game after a stove explosion and then loaded that save, the scorch marks left behind by the explosion would not be visible. This bug has been fixed.
  • When Kyoshi apprehended Ayano and spoke a voice line, her lips would not move. This bug has been fixed.
  • Raibaru will no longer bother Osana while she’s trying to spend time with her boyfriend.
  • Shadows and ambient obscurance were not appearing correctly. This bug has been fixed.

My thoughts about YS's fate are up to debates, but my current position is:
Alex doesn't know a fucking thing he's doing right now. He came up with an idea of 10 rivals for how long ago? And as it was put in practice - it's pure fucking garbage.
First of all, the formula he used for Osana, Amai and 10 rivals of the 80s mod only works...maybe once, though he already used it 11 more times. If he wants to impress the player with the Wonders of Gameplay and Storytelling it's not enough to just...slap a bunch of repeatative, boring events onto each other and call it a day. Even if Amai had new animations, even if she had voice-lines, it still would be crap because, honestly, does he have imagination on what to do with all this? It's like those "bring me 10 rocks" types of quests a lot of games like to pull out when you complete the main quest-line - and let me say, at least THERE IS a main quest-line. With 80s mod and Amai he has proven that "bring me 10 rocks" is YS's main quest-line - the one Alex is seemingly so proud of.
I literally saw fan-mods which had better storytelling than his one true official masterpiece. Like, there were more complex side-lines of a character elimination, which included new foe characters, new friendly characters and so on. And then, official YS rival is released and it's a pile of piss.

I mean, what to expect from Kizana? That everything stays the same, except a stagelight will crush her head during performance? Wow, how exciting.

Tbh? Same. I thought the voicecting was horrible. Like, I really hate those anime-wannabe voices which are clearly not meant to sound like that...
Amai was especially bad imo. So nasal and cringe, yet I learned she is a professional VA now. Good for her though, hope she's got better.

Ngl, after 10 years of following this shit, I think the absolute worst voice actor in YS was Michaela Laws - the main fucking character. Not only is she usually just bad, but in YS she also tries to do this weird "I'm a totally empty inside psychopath" voice, which comes out just horrible. She sounds like she is high on drugs or some shit.

I also remember her being turbo pissed off about yansim's child fans flodding her channel, because she wanted a more "adult" audience that would coom to her amazing content. She would complain how every time she released a video, streamed or made an announcement, those retards would only talk about YS. Tho, she knew that before YS she was basically nobody and noone gave a shit about her other works, so she begrudgingly continued to voice Ayano and Ryoba.

From the looks of it, YS hasn't really helped her career. On youtube, she is a big tits latina vuber, who gets at most a thousand views even though she still has 500k subs leftover from the YS people. Professionally, she is still doing the lowest of the low anime, indie romance visual novels and literal porn games. The only two works from her portfolio I recognise are yansim and fucking YIIK lmaoo

It's hilarious how Yiik is actually a better game than YanSim, at least Yiik is finished and entertaining (for all the wrong reasons)

also how is it that I've watched the OneyPlays playthrough of Yiik and Running Shine's review of it, and am only just realizing Chondra shares a voice with fucking Ayano, it straight-up never connected in my head it was the same Michaela Laws lmao God damn I'm retarded

She's got too generically of an anime voice to really use in anything other than shitposting and low effort anime content. If your making a serious project with an anime aesthetic, you don't want to be channeling that 4kids anime dub energy, which is what she's got.

Surprised to hear that she's both a vtuber and an unpopular one at that, seems like a golden simp crossover opportunity. I guess her gameplay must be just that boring. You either want to be great at a game or awful at a game, the worst thing a vtuber can do is tryhard and end up being mid. You can get around all this with an actually good and funny personality, but clearly that's not the case here.

It might have worked for her back when it was a more niche form of YouTuber, but anime VTubers are a dime a dozen these days and unless you're great at what games you play, or entertaining, there will always be better than her.

I don't want to dunk on all the voice actors that were involved with YS. I think some of them legitimately tried but they could only make do with what Alex wanted. Even the most skilled voice actors could not have saved the bad and cringeworthy scripts. Two voice actors I can think of are Jonah Scott and Alejandro Saab. After YS, they have gone above and beyond and established themselves as professionals in the dubbed anime community.

This. Man's gotta eat and pay the bills somehow so if takin' the odd job now and then gets you some extra pocket change, fair play to you.

I don't think most of what she does can even be described as "playing" games. She mostly just clicks through visual novels and reads every character's lines in a different voice to show off her voice acting prowess. She is just not that interesting and sometimes gives off that annoying bitch vibe.

I also think female vtbers only work if the actual person behind the anime charcater never shows herself and never admits she's in a relationship to maximise coomer delusions. Unfortunately, she does vlogs and you can see that she is fat irl and has an arab husband. It's kinda funny because they literally look like mexican Chantal and Salah if he lost a few kilos and grew his hair out.

I think scripts for anime dubs in general are just awful and it is very hard to assess an anime voice actor's performance. Anime is very particular and the cultural differences of expressing onself between the west and Japan are massive and when you translate the script it just sounds retarded. These actors are being handed the most mangled translation known to man and to top it all off they have to make all of those weird anime noises, which imo isn't really a good educational experience in voice acting. I'm happy that YS actors found a job after this shitfest, but man, if you're only doing anime dubs and anime-adjacent games like most of them, I would actually hesitate to call that progress because they all sound shit inherently. I don't think I have ever encountered an actually good anime dub except from ridiculous shit that is not meant to be taken seriously like hetalia or gost stories.

Sorry about this anime rant. As I said, if former yansim cast can make ends meet with their talents, then good on them, no matter how great or shit they are. Especially people who were teenagers or young adults at that time. Since the bar for anime voice acting is non-existent it is a good way to get yourself out there, I get it. And bonus points for actually acting professional, unlike Michaela who spends her life streaming big booba and voicing borderline porn or actual porn nobody plays instead of honing her skill and trying to break out.

Not only Alex doesn't know what "yandere" means, she went all-in into his incorrect interpretation. Ayano is not written as a yandere, and she's voiced even less as a yandere. Compared to all yandere characters from Japanese media, she has nothing in common with them.
But we had this discussions before, no point in rehashing it.

Imo Michaela Laws was more appealing cause of her voice, which wasn't generically high-pitched anime one but was deep and more "soothing", which made a lot of fans simp for Ayano's character. But when she laughed like crazy or tried anything else with it, it really made me cringe lmao because she's clearly a very average at best voice actress.
Senpai was super-shitty though, I can't stop laughing at the dude's "NO NO OSANA DON'T DO THIIISSS" lines lol
But anyway, these people carried YanSim. Voice actors, composers, model-makers, arters. Without them there'd be nothing aside from stolen assets and Alex's "amazing" spaghetti code and a super cringy writing.

PS: about cringy writing, anyone noticed how he uses a lot of unnecessarily big words when writing dialogues for his characters? Like, who the fuck says "I'm so ACCUSTOMED" or shit like that
